Mediatracker, a website that tracks media stories and works for transparency in government, has uncovered a heretofore unknowm group made up of some of the most powerful and influential leftists in the country. The private Google group known as "Gamechanger Salon" features a veritable who´s who of far left heavy hitting political activists (snip)Like Journolist, the advantage of a group like this is that talking points and political attacks can be highly coordinated. Most of the biggies on this list are frequent media guests, and being able to closely coordinate responses to news of the days amplifies the message. It wouldn´t surprise

Are you too picking up on the widening Obama administration pattern here of mismanagement, incompetence, no accountability and completely wasted taxpayer money? Yet another government audit out Wednesday, this one dissecting last fall´s ObamaCare roll-out debacle. [Snip] The new report from the nonpartisan General Accounting Office blames systemic problems such as poor planning, lack of follow-up, ineffective oversight and chaotic coordination. Expenses for the website alone stand at $840 million -- and that was last March!

Magic Johnson’s son, 22-year-old EJ, is on a boat. Make that a 143-foot yacht. “Yachting is my favorite pastime,” says the 6-foot-3 NYU student who looks like a young André Leon Talley in his Gucci chiffon caftan, gold Chanel pendant and glamazon shades. . “Whether it is Friday, Saturday, Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday, honey, yachting is always cute,” opines Johnson as he pours glasses of Dom for his fabulous friends. It’s the premiere episode of “#RichKids of Beverly Hills” — and Johnson is making a splash. The Birkin-loving diva, who had a handful of cameos on Season 1, is now a regular on the E! series

Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush has been traveling to New York in the past month to quietly meet with high-flying business leaders to ramp up interest in a potential presidential bid, sources tell Page Six. “He’s been meeting with groups of up to 15 people at private homes to tell them about some of his moderate points of view,” a source said. “He’s been meeting with Republicans, Democrats and independents.” Our source added, “They’re not fund-raisers. It’s for people here to get to know more about him. He’s said he has not decided whether he’ll run.” We hear that Bush was in town

Asked by a convert to distill the Torah’s essence, Rabbi Hillel — Judaism’s great sage — taught, “What is hateful unto you, do not do unto your neighbor.” Like the Golden Rule that roots most ethical traditions, Hillel’s first-century precept was aimed at inspiring a better society, one that brought order, dignity and peace to an otherwise cruel and warring world. That too much of the world still inhabits a darker moral universe — refusing to Think Again about its preference for violence, hate and death — is perhaps humanity’s greatest challenge. As Nazi-era refugee Albert Einstein understood, defending our

How much better if the White House had said nothing, instead of issuing a fuzzy statement Wednesday condemning the shelling of a UN school for Palestinians in Gaza. It matters little that the National Security Council’s spokeswoman, Bernadette Meehan, did not explicitly accuse Israel of the bombing. Or that she went on to condemn those “hiding weapons in UN facilities.” The world understands the game. On the same day the White House issued its condemnation, the UN secretary general was blaming Israel for a “shameful” attack on “sleeping children.” Now, anything suggesting Israel and Hamas operate on the same moral plane is a victory

Rarely do some of the nation’s most powerful politicians and businesspeople laud banks that report big profits when in fact they have lost billions of dollars. But we’re witnessing this spectacle on behalf of the Export-Import Bank of the United States, which for many decades, and for good reason, has been called by its critics “The Bank of Boeing.” Its charter expires September 30, and a battle over its possible extension is brewing between the political establishment and reformers. The Export-Import Bank got its start in 1934. It’s a Great Depression-era relic that has always favored the largest and most politically powerful

Pope Francis has come up with 10 tips for a happier life, and one of them is to turn off the TV during dinner. In the interview with Argentine weekly Viva, the pontiff says staying plugged-in during meals stops families from communicating with each other. The pope also says that parents have to make time to play with their children and enjoy art and culture, according to a Catholic News Service translation of the interview. The Roman Catholic leader also says people should treat Sundays like family holidays, avoid criticizing others, steer clear of religious proselytizing, and work for peace. His

ST. LOUIS - Gay white men taking chances is what St. Louis Health Department director Pamela Walker says is largely to blame for the some 250 new HIV-AIDS cases each year in the region. “HIV-AIDS is still primarily a disease of men who have sex with men,” Walker says. “It’s still primarily white, but there is a disparity of course in the city, with more African Americans.” Walker says the disease is spreading because people wrongly think AIDS has been cured, or it’s no big deal anymore. And they’re having unprotected sex. “They think it’s curable. They think it’s over,” she says.

Ramallah—The Egyptian government has called on the Palestinian Authority and Hamas to unify their stance on the Egyptian-sponsored ceasefire initiative to end the fighting in Gaza ahead of a forthcoming meeting in Cairo. A senior Palestinian official, speaking to Asharq Al-Awsat on the condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the media, said that Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi had informed his Palestinian counterpart Mahmoud Abbas that the joint Palestinian delegation set to visit Cairo to discuss the Egyptian initiative should include representatives of both Hamas and Fatah and “adopt a unified stance.” Palestinian Authority President Abbas is expected

John Kerry should take a lesson from Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi. El-Sisi is not messing around with the construct of a peace deal until the Palestinian Authority and Hamas define their own association. In essence El-Sisi cuts to the heart of the matter and tells Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas that conversations about any cease fire are ridiculous when Abbas cannot control Hamas.Common sense would tell you it’s impossible to negotiate a temporary peace agreement without the actual people fighting agreeing to a cease-fire. Therefore El-Sisi tells Abbas until he gets control of Hamas, and actually gets Hamas to agree to

“Obama is a fool, and Kerry is an idiot.” “The Americans’ behavior has angered not only Israel, but all moderate forces in the region.” “There is no other way to describe [American dealings] than as a perversion of morality and diplomacy.” Those were some of the nicer things one could hear Israelis muttering about the American leadership this week. At first, Israelis were frustrated by inequitable American ceasefire demands and proposals that they at first believed were designed to protect Washington’s interests in the region and the Israeli-Palestinian peace process. But then senior Democratic officials began commenting to the media, and the

Over the past two years, the Obama administration has published hundreds and hundreds of rules — on how wheelchairs should be stowed aboard U.S. aircraft, how foreign trade zones should be regulated, how voting assistance should be provided for U.S. citizens overseas, and so on.There’s a problem, however: Technically speaking, these and some 1,800 other regulations shouldn’t be in effect because they weren’t reported to Congress as required. Yet there is little that lawmakers or the courts can do about it. The situation illustrates the obscure, Byzantine process used to create federal regulations — and how easily it can go awry. “It’s
