A top official at the Environmental Protection Agency said Wednesday he is troubled by a lack of trust from Republicans concerning the EPA’s new climate rule and plan to regulate smaller bodies of water. EPA Deputy Administrator Bob Perciasepe said he is trying to “build a bridge” with Republicans. “I can tell you my boss [EPA Administrator] Gina McCarthy would want nothing more than to build credibility with Congress,” Perciasepe said during a hearing at the House Small Business Committee. Perciasepe plans to leave the EPA next month, but before he takes off he has been making the rounds in Congress, offering to

When it comes to judging someone’s political ideology, many people and pundits end up arguing about labels and characterizations rather than the facts and the objective record. For example, I recall recently reading about someone who attended a Ready for Hillary meeting in Iowa who declared his concern about Hillary Clinton being a “corporatist.” A few recent articles refer to Clinton as a “centrist” or not a genuine “populist,” words meaning different things to different people. Fortunately, polling data show that most people make their judgments based on facts, not labels. When it comes to judging someone’s political ideology,

TUCSON -- After nearly two years of no answers from Border Patrol, the mother of a Mexican teen killed 2- years ago has slapped the US Border Patrol with a lawsuit. Aricela Rodriguez is calling her son´s death a "brazen and lawless killing." The civil rights case is testing a recent federal ruling on law enforcement´s use of deadly force along the border. Family members and attorneys spoke Tuesday at a news conference outside U.S. District court in Tucson after attorneys filed a 10 page civil lawsuit against 20 Border Patrol and U.S. Customs and Protection agents -- identified only

On Tuesday, members of the Congressional Progressive Caucus held a hearing on the humanitarian crisis on the ten of thousands of unaccompanied minors flooding across the U.S.-Mexico border. During that hearing, Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) likened the cold temperatures maintained inside the holding facilities to "torture." Despite temperatures having reached over 100 degrees in El Paso, TX, the location of a Border Patrol holding facility, the Illinois Democrat insisted that the children were "deliberately held in really uncomfortable situations." Having just returned from a stimulating colloquy at a semi-secure, undisclosed location among the California redwoods — a location, moreover, cut off from the always exigent importunities of the Internet — I find that our masters in and about Washington, D.C., have continued that long-running road show “Wrecking the United States of America.” The latest act, taking its place right alongside the three-ring circus of Appeasing Russia, Enabling Hamas, and Turning a Blind Eye Towards Iran, is the Great Disappearing Border Trick now showing in the southern most reaches of what we used to be able to call our country

An "elite group of left wing millionaires and billionaires" fund "the far-left environmental movement, which in turn controls major policy decisions," according to a U.S. Senate report released on July 30. The report singled out, among other groups, the secretive Democracy Alliance, a group founded in part by liberal billionaire George Soros. The report stated that "DA flouts transparency and public participation as the group emphasizes secrecy in all its operations." It also said that the influence of the DA and groups like it could be traced through other liberal groups to environmental regulations mandated by the EPA. The Democracy Alliance is

Before this June, the highest the average price for a KWH had ever gone was 13.7 cents, the level it hit in June, July, August and September of last year. The 14.3-cents average price for a KWH recorded this June is about 4.4 percent higher than that previous record. Typically, the cost of electricity peaks in summer, declines

President Barack Obama will headline upcoming fundraisers for House and Senate Democrats, with more big dollar events starring the president being planned before Election Day, according to Democratic insiders. Obama will get top billing for an Aug. 29 fundraiser on behalf of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee in Newport, Rhode Island, said Democratic sources. The president will also take part in a Sept. 12 fundraiser for the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee in Baltimore, the sources added. House and Senate Democrats - who already have a huge fundraising advantage over their GOP counterparts - want Obama to appear at additional fundraisers

Her husband had shied away from discussing his African heritage in his own remarks to the 500 Africans finishing a six-week Washington leadership fellowship on Monday, referencing his Kenyan father only once in the question-and-answer session. New York - His paintings made news worldwide, but it turns out that former President George W. Crown Publishers told The Associated Press on Wednesday that the book, currently untitled, will be released November 11. In 2010, Crown published the younger Bush´s million-selling memoir, "Decision Points." "George H.W. Bush is a great servant, statesman, and father," George W. Sens. Rand Paul (R-KY) and Cory Booker (D-NJ) brought their bipartisan push for criminal justice reform (a noble cause, if you ask us) to MSNBC’s The Cycle on Wednesday afternoon. While the conversation was mostly cordial and illuminating, it took a brief turn for the tense when Ari Melber found a way to bring up Sen. Paul’s controversial 2010 comments to Rachel Maddow about the Civil Rights Act. Directly after the libertarian-leaning senator made the case that prison reform is a civil rights issue, Melber transitioned: “As we’re talking about restoring civil rights here, you stirred up a lot of

A sharply divided House approved a Republican plan Wednesday to launch a campaign-season lawsuit against President Barack Obama, accusing him of exceeding the bounds of his constitutional authority. Obama and other Democrats derided the effort as a stunt aimed at tossing political red meat to conservative voters. Just a day before lawmakers were to begin a five-week summer recess, debate over the proposed lawsuit underscored the harshly partisan tone that has dominated the current Congress almost from its start in January 2013. The vote to sue Obama was 225 to 201. Five conservative Republicans voted with Democrats in opposing the lawsuit:

Since we’re all talking about impeachment now, recall, if you will, when there were efforts underway to try getting George W. Bush impeached. Yes, there were some Democrats who pushed to impeach Bush back when he was in office, just as there are currently some Republicans who’d like to impeach President Obama. In fact, back in 2008, there was a bill sponsored by Dennis Kucinich with this title: “Impeaching George W. Bush, President of the United States, of high crimes and misdemeanors.” The bill was co-sponsored by eleven Democrats, among them Texas Democrat Sheila Jackson-Lee. Well, guess what Jackson-Lee

Thousands, possibly millions, of hockey puck-sized creatures washed up along the shoreline near San Francisco Bay this week, but an expert says don´t be alarmed. Strong winds probably drew the colony of creatures, known as Velella velella, to Ocean Beach in San Francisco, where they dried out and died, said Rich Mooi, curator of invertebrate zoology and geology at the California Academy of Sciences. The creatures, he said, are not dying off. They are known to bloom and float to shores along the northern continents around April, May and early June. The latest bloom, however, is unusual because it happened later than expected.

Amid several outstanding domestic and foreign policy crises Congress must tackle by the end of the week, House Republicans are finalizing their plans to sue President Obama. The House voted 225 to 201 Wednesday afternoon to authorize House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, to go forward with the lawsuit. It alleges that the president has overreached on his executive authority by unilaterally changing the implementation of the Affordable Care Act. The vote was almost split along party lines, with all Democrats voting "no." Five Republicans also voted against the measure. Four Republicans and three Democrats did not vote.
