Thousands of jellyfish-like creatures

Thousands, possibly millions, of hockey puck-sized creatures washed up along the shoreline near San Francisco Bay this week, but an expert says don´t be alarmed. Strong winds probably drew the colony of creatures, known as Velella velella, to Ocean Beach in San Francisco, where they dried out and died, said Rich Mooi, curator of invertebrate zoology and geology at the California Academy of Sciences. The creatures, he said, are not dying off. They are known to bloom and float to shores along the northern continents around April, May and early June. The latest bloom, however, is unusual because it happened later than expected.

In an interview with Jorge Ramos Fusion TV, Ms. Hillary was asked about civilian deaths in Gaza. Hamas treats civilian death statistics as propaganda and carefully nurtures them. They are treated as gospel and routinely recited by the media without reservation. Bret Stephens took up the issue in an important Wall Street Journal column yesterday, addressing the officials and policymakers who use the statistics to criticize Israel or promote a ceasefire or the like. Stephens’s column is “Palestine makes you dumb” (behind the Journal’s annoying subscription paywall but accessible via Google). In the video below, Ms. Hillary touches all the

Amid several outstanding domestic and foreign policy crises Congress must tackle by the end of the week, House Republicans are finalizing their plans to sue President Obama. The House voted 225 to 201 Wednesday afternoon to authorize House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, to go forward with the lawsuit. It alleges that the president has overreached on his executive authority by unilaterally changing the implementation of the Affordable Care Act. The vote was almost split along party lines, with all Democrats voting "no." Five Republicans also voted against the measure. Four Republicans and three Democrats did not vote.

Cairo - Battling Palestinian militants in Gaza two years ago, Israel found itself pressed from all sides by unfriendly Arab neighbors to end the fighting. Not this time. After the military ouster of the Islamist government in Cairo last year, Egypt has led a new coalition of Arab states — including Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Jordan — that has effectively lined up with Israel in its fight against Hamas, the Islamist movement that controls the Gaza Strip. The bill gives the VA secretary new authority to fire senior employees accused of mismanagement and gives veterans the ability to leave the VA to seek medical care of they have waited longer than 14 days for treatment. Washington – A Senate report on the CIA´s interrogation and detention practices after the 9/11 attacks concludes that the agency initially kept the secretary of state and some U.S. ambassadors in the dark about harsh techniques and secret prisons, according to a document circulating among White House staff. The still-classified report also says some ambassadors who were informed about interrogations of al-Qaida detainees at so-called black sites in their countries were instructed not to tell their superiors at the State Department, the document says. For the last six or seven minutes all over our favorite cable channel we´ve had via the news and the commentators going on and on about how the kooks have proposed impeachment but the Republicans have never really wanted impeachment. How the Democrats are proposing impeachment as a way to raise money. I sit here ladies and gentlemen and I say this: our country is being destroyed.

Ever have your phone stolen? If so, it’s likely you wished for a “kill switch,” a button that would immediately disable your phone, rendering it useless to a thief and protecting your valuable data. Good thing Google and Microsoft will now join Apple and others in including a kill switch function to their operating systems and phones, following a New York State report that indicated a kill switch cuts smart phone robberies by up to 40 percent in some cases. This follows legislation in Minnesota that mandates all smart phones must have a kill switch. Smart phone robberies were at an all time high in 2013, according to data by the report,

More controversially, if Ms Merkel’s deal were to be acceptable to the Russians, the international community would need to recognise Crimea’s independence and its annexation by Russia,

The Obama administration has spent roughly $840 million on HealthCare.gov, including more than $150 million just in cost overruns for the version that failed so badly when it launched last year. The Government Accountability Office says cost overruns went hand-in-hand with the management failures that led to the disastrous launch of HealthCare.gov and the 36 state insurance exchanges it serves. Capitol Hill conservatives are not happy with Speaker John Boehner´s (R-OH) $659 million response to the unfolding humanitarian crisis at the Texas-Mexico border. They are circulating a series of memos, including the one pasted below, detailing why the Boehner bill will fail to solve the problem. From the memo: The bill does not address the cause of the problem – the president’s unlawful policies, particularly DACA. The bill does not actually require the president to do anything – the only thing it guarantees is that the president will get the money he requested. The bill appropriates money through 2015, creating a built-in budget cliff

I am starting to understand how the people of France must have felt when they took to the streets under the shadow of the Champs Elysees in late August of 1944 to greet their allied liberators. It was a joyous occasion; young women tossing flowers, kissing the boys who fought for their liberation, signs proclaiming Vive De Gaulle as uncontrollable joy and exuberance washed over the euphoric crowd. But just beneath the celebratory cheer must have been a sense of dread and foreboding as memories of the dark tyranny of fascism that ground French freedom under the jackboot of their
