Italian journalist leaves Gaza, tells truth once free from Hamas retaliation. Yesterday one of the stories thrust into the mainstream media was nearly simultaneous explosions in a Palestinian neighborhood and at al-Shifa hospital. The media immediately took the Hamas line that it was Israeli missiles. Later, the IDF stated that it had not fired on those locations, and that the explosions were misfired Hamas or Islamic Jihad missiles. The media played it as he said, he said. But an Italian journalist has just left Gaza and is telling the truth about what happened now that he needs not fear Hamas

Seriously, What Is John Kerry Doing?

Let’s concede for a moment that most of us don’t believe the United States should be taking sides in conflicts abroad. Even so, most Americans would probably agree that at a minimum our diplomatic efforts should not cause unnecessary harm. Which brings me to Secretary of State John Kerry’s recent misadventure in the Middle East. It seems like a rather big deal that Egypt, Israel, Fatah, Jordan, Saudi Arabia—ostensibly, all allies of ours—agree on anything. This development, one imagines, might be something the United States would be interested in fostering rather than destroying. Certainly, the idea that Hamas’ power should be

Hamilton – One of two Hamilton men accused of pointing a gun at two children – one of them an 8-month-old boy – and threatening to put the infant in the oven during a home invasion earlier this month was out on bail on unrelated charges at the time of the incident. Prosecutors say McGhore Jean, 25, and Wicky Predvil, 22, robbed a family of more than $200, handbags and a tablet computer in their Second Street home in Trenton on July 12. (Snip) During a bail hearing this morning, prosecutors said Jean, 25, is no stranger to law enforcement,

A 151-year-old house that was the first in the world to be lit using hydroelectricity is once again harnessing the power of water to light the property. Cragside, in Northumberland, was built by Lord Armstrong in 1863 and he used lakes on the estate to generate electricity through a turbine. A 56ft (17-metre) Archimedes screw has now been installed which will use water to produce enough energy to light the 350 bulbs in the house. Geordie actor Robson Green today turned on the screw at the National Trust property and launched the hydropower project. Property curator Andrew Sawyer said: ‘It

On his Tuesday radio show, Sean Hannity went off on a rant against Secretary of State John Kerry, whose settlement offer was unanimously rejected by the Israeli, which was an unprecedented show of disapproval by that cabinet. Hannity accused the Obama administration’s head diplomat of lacking the moral clarity to understand the gravity of the threat Hamas has posed to Israel’s security. “It’s so bad, the Israeli cabinet, legendary by the way for its inability to agree on anything, actually rejected Kerry’s proposal 19-0,” Hannity said. “All across Israel, today, there’s nothing but universal condemnation for John Kerry

Liberal darling and free-birth-control advocate Sandra Fluke is her own biggest donor in her state Senate race, according to official California campaign finance reports. Fluke donated $12,000 to her campaign and $4,826.27 in non-monetary contributions. While $16,826.27 may not sound like a lot, Fluke also loaned her campaign $100,000. Where does a 2012 law school grad working as a social justice attorney get a loan that size? Her campaign never responded to a Washington Examiner inquiry, so we’re left to speculate. Perhaps the loan was in part secured by the family of Fluke’s husband, Adam Mutterperl.

President Obama announced new, tougher sanctions against Russia on Tuesday, as Western nations ramped up pressure on Russian President Vladimir Putin in the wake of the downing of a passenger jet in Ukraine. From the South Lawn of the White House, Obama said that the U.S would extend sanctions to major sectors of the Russian economy and three state-controlled banks. “The U.S. is imposing new sanctions in key sectors of the Russian economy: energy, arms and finance,” Obama said. “Today, Russia is once again isolating itself from the international community,” he added, saying the penalties would have even "bigger bite"

White House officials have told allies in Congress to expect an announcement of a large-scale action most likely in September, just before the midterm congressional elections, the aide said, asking for anonymity to discuss an unannounced plan. Obama has said he’ll act in the absence of legislation from Congress on the 12 million undocumented immigrants living in the U.S. In the House, Republican leaders have declined to bring a

The Commonwealth Games, which opened last week in Glasgow, Scotland in the presence of the Queen, was, like all sporting events these days, ushered into existence to the accompaniment of a lavish and visually impressive opening ceremony. But amidst the dancing mechanical giants and gay kisses, the organizers also sought to celebrate Scottishness by having each team led out by Scottie dogs wearing tartan coats embroidered with the name of the team. A hallmark of the primary season on the Democratic side was Senate candidate Michelle Nunn´s studied determination not to define herself. As of today, that´s no longer possible for her -- and it´s her own campaign´s fault. A series of internal campaign memos, totaling 144 pages and covering everything from fund-raising goals and targets to staffing needs, was leaked to National Review, which published it today. The campaign itself reportedly uploaded the plan to the Internet back in December, before quickly taking it back down. But someone found it during that brief period and -- this is the impressive part --

PJ Media’s Susan Goldberg is dead wrong about Sarah Palin’s new project. Sarah Palin has officially given up on her political career. Launching the Sarah Palin Channel, the former Alaskan governor has apparently decided to follow in Oprah’s footsteps and impact the voters where it counts: paid Internet TV. Palin isn’t the first conservative to move into the media subscription fray (Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh both beat her to it) and, thank God, unlike Kim Kardashian she isn’t establishing her solo career on a sex tape. But, at the very moment when Obama’s presidency is taking a nosedive off

Inside Hoboken’s combined junior-senior high school is a storage closet. Behind the locked door, some mothballed laptop computers are strewn among brown cardboard boxes. Others are stacked one atop another. Dozens more are stored on mobile computer carts, many of them on their last legs. That’s all that remains from a failed experiment to assign every student a laptop at Hoboken Junior Senior High School. It began five years ago with an unexpected windfall of stimulus money from Washington, D.C., and good intentions to help the district’s students,

Jurors could not reach a unanimous verdict, as instructed. Instead, with the consent of both sides, they voted 8 to 2 in Ventura’s favor. (snip) District Judge Richard Kyle said federal rules require a unanimous verdict but allow for a split verdict if both sides agree. Attorneys agreed to 8 of 10 jurors taking one side.

Well, not when it´s a Democrat campaign. For half a millennium the Russian Tsars proudly proclaimed themselves to be guardians of Christian civilization against barbarian invasions from the Asian steppes and the Muslim Middle East. Although the Tsars generally excluded Catholics from their benevolent protection, their claim to protect European Christianity was not totally wrong. Just as the Pope of Rome traces his legitimacy to the Apostle Peter, so the Russian Orthodox Church, the established church of Tsarist Russia, traces its lineage to the Byzantine Empire, beginning three centuries after Jesus of Nazareth. For all its faults, Tsarist Russia buffered the West against worse threats. This history

An order issued Saturday by the judge struck down the city’s ban on the carrying of guns in public as unconstitutional. While still struggling to comprehend the scope of the order, D.C. police ordered officers to stop arresting people for carrying legally
