Kerry v. Israel:
Why It Gets Personal

The Obama administration is fuming about the anger in Israel about Secretary of State John Kerry’s bumbling efforts to negotiate a cease-fire in Gaza. But while senior U.S. officials are claiming the attacks on Kerry from Israelis across the political spectrum puts the relationship between the two countries in jeopardy, the change in tune today from Kerry in his statements about the goals of negotiations illustrated just how deep is the hole that he has dug for himself and the United States in the current crisis.

A leading member of the House Appropriations Committee said the Obama administration needs to get cracking on an Ebola strategy in the event the deadly virus hops a plane to the U.S. Rep. Frank Wolf (R-Va.) on the House floor yesterday referenced the growing outbreak in West Africa, which has made two American healthcare workers in Liberia ill. “This horrible disease knows no borders and has already claimed the lives of 660 people in four countries since it was first detected in March,” Wolf said. “The White House needs to pull together the CDC, NIH, State Department and USAID with the World Health

A slew of recent court victories for gay marriage proponents across the country, including two from federal appeals courts, have amped up speculation the Supreme Court soon will revisit the issue. Since the Supreme Court last year struck down a key part of the federal Defense of Marriage Act, all of the more than 20 federal and state courts that have addressed the issue have ruled against state bans. Those rulings remain in various stages of appeal. More than 70 cases have been filed in all 31 states that prohibit same-sex marriage. Nineteen states and the District of Columbia allow

Four Republican lawmakers will be hit with Spanish-language ads during the Congress´s August recess attacking them over their immigration stances, the Service Employees International Union said Tuesday. The targets are Reps. Cory Gardner and Mike Coffman of Colorado, David Valadao of California, and Joe Heck of Nevada. The ads will hit them for blocking immigration reform, opposing the DREAM Act and "attack[ing] our children at the border as if they were criminals." "While these Republicans are back home, they will not only have to hear about their failures on the radio, but we will be in every town hall, making sure

Talk of impeaching President Barack Obama, which gained steam when Sarah Palin gave voice to it three weeks ago, has started reaping dividends for the Democrats. Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee chair Steve Israel (D-NY) said Tuesday that Republican musing about impeachment and House Speaker John Boehner’s (R-OH) planned lawsuit against Obama over the delaying of the ACA individual mandate had compelled Democratic voters to donate. According to Israel, the DCCC raised $1 million on Monday alone:

House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) dismissed any plans to impeach President Barack Obama Tuesday, calling it a “scam” perpetrated by the White House and congressional Democrats to fundraise. “This whole talk about impeachment is coming from the president’s own staff, and coming from Democrats on Capitol Hill,” Boehner said. “Why? Because they’re trying to rally their people to give money and to show up in this year’s election.” “We have no plans to impeach the president,” he continued. “We have no future plans. It’s all a scam started by Democrats at the White House.” Three weeks ago Boehner, who is

Within the Internal Revenue Service, away from the eyes of the majority of American citizens and the media, agency officials have struck a deal with the Freedom From Religion Foundation. That’s according a press release put out by the foundation on July 17. The Freedom From Religion Foundation is a militant atheist group, truly an enemy of religious believers and everyone else who values the freedom of religion. The Freedom From Religion Foundation and the Internal Revenue Service reached an agreement today (July 17) that resolves for the time being an ongoing federal lawsuit over non-enforcement of restrictions on political

HOUSTON, Texas--Bell County, Texas, has spent almost $200,000 so far this year on detainers, or "immigration holds," for illegal immigrants. Detainer requests from federal immigration officials require local law enforcement to hold illegal immigrants, detained for local charges, past the length of their jail times. Typically, the holding time is 48 hours. During this time, federal agents decide whether or not to deport the individuals. The federal government does not reimburse Bell County Jail and other local detainment facilities for immigration holds, according to KDH News. The local media outlet reported that each inmate costs the Bell County jail $67.35 per day;

HOUSTON, Texas--The federal government is in dire need of U.S. citizens willing to house the thousands of illegal immigrants who enter the country each week, and they are willing to pay them to do so. The Texas-based nonprofit Catholic Charities is currently seeking out foster families for the migrants, most of whom come from Central America. Ruth Braiser, a spokeswoman for the organization, told Breitbart Texas that foster families can receive monthly payments for housing adult immigrants who are under 23-years-old. "Most of our children are 15 to 17-years-old," she said. "But some stay in our program until they are

WASHINGTON — Mounting crises in Ukraine and the Middle East have driven a surge in President Obama´s telephone diplomacy, as the president has made more calls in July to world leaders than in all but one month of his presidency, according to White House records analyzed by USA TODAY. The calls, analyzed from almost 1,100 publicly disclosed records since 2009, show how Obama has relied heavily on European leaders, particularly British Prime Minister David Cameron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel, to help navigate trouble spots. And they provide a glimpse into how the president conducts diplomacy and who his most

WASHINGTON — The Obama administration pushed back strongly Monday at a torrent of Israeli criticism over Secretary of State John Kerry´s latest bid to secure a cease-fire with Hamas, accusing some in Israel of launching a "misinformation campaign" against the top American diplomat. "It´s simply not the way partners and allies treat each other," State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki said. Her comments were echoed by the White House, where National Security Adviser Susan Rice said the U.S. was "dismayed" by mischaracterizations of Kerry´s efforts. And that was just fine with Malia’s mom. The taking of a life to punish taking a life is an idea whose time is not yet gone, but its years may be numbered. A low-key campaign against capital punishment is flourishing, led this time by lonely conservatives. Many of them are concerned about the inefficiency of state killing, if not the morality of it. Capital punishment has been consistently upheld by the U.S. Supreme Court, despite the constitutional prohibition of “cruel and unusual punishment.” It’s difficult to see how the killing could be any more cruel or unusual than in a succession of botched executions this year among the

This month I have been down to the Texas-Mexico border three different weekends. My nights patrolling the border, talking in depth with Border Patrol, DPS, Texas Rangers, ICE agents, and people in the area have helped bring a few things into focus for me. Namely – we must secure the border and enforce the law of the land. Unlike the editorial board at the Longview News-Journal, the majority of Americans understand compassion is not encouraging a president to continue luring children to this country through horrific dangers, transported by drug cartel employees from countries where crime has not spiked.
