Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel wants to open the city up to more immigrant children crossing the border illegally, with plans to open up shelters in the city to 1,000 minors by the end of the year. Mr. Emanuel’s office also plans to launch a “broad-based pro bono campaign,” using the city’s legal resources to council young immigrants. “The influx of unaccompanied child migrants is a growing humanitarian crisis that we can no longer ignore,” Mr. Emanuel said (Snip) But citizens in Chicago, one of America’s most violent cities, have claimed that the Obama administration is placing the plight of illegal immigrants above the needs of Chicago’s

With the immigration issue raging on Capitol Hill, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell made a little-noticed move that could help Republicans stop Democratic Leader Harry Reid from jamming the GOP on immigration with the politics of the Israel-Hamas conflict. Friday, McConnell introduced a stand-alone spending bill to send money for Israel´s “Iron Dome” missile defense system, something Senate Democrats had sought to include in the larger border crisis package moving its way through the chamber. “Republicans are united in support of our ally Israel,” McConnell said in a floor speech introducing the bill. “We have legislation

Sunni radicals with the Islamic State of Syria and the Levant have created the al-Khansaa’ Brigade, an all-female unit that exists to impose on Sharia law on Iraqi and Syrian women. “We have established the brigade to raise awareness of our religion among women, and to punish women who do not abide by the law,” said Abu Ahmad, an ISIL official in the northern Syrian city of Raqqa, news website Worldcrunch reported. The armed women have reportedly detained and whipped individuals for wearing veils that are too thin, wearing hair clips under veils, walking alone and exposing too much of their face,

Hamas militants are attempting to negotiate a new arms deal with North Korea for missiles and communications equipment that will allow them to maintain their offensive against Israel, according to Western security sources. Security officials say the deal between Hamas and North Korea is worth hundreds of thousands of dollars and is being handled by a Lebanese-based trading company with close ties to the militant Palestinian organisation based in east Beirut. Hamas officials are believed to have already made an initial cash down payment to secure the deal, and are now hoping that North Korea will soon begin shipping extra

Jerusalem - The Israeli military says three rockets have been fired from Gaza at Israel despite a proposed extension of a humanitarian truce in the Gaza war. Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri said the group rejected Israel’s proposal to extend an original 12-hour lull by four hours, until midnight (2100 GMT) Saturday. The military says the three rockets were fired more than an hour after the period for the initial lull had ended. Meanwhile, the military warned residents of areas where there had been heavy fighting against returning there.

Israel agreed to extend by four hours a humanitarian truce agreed with Hamas and other armed groups in the Gaza Strip on Saturday, but Hamas said it never agreed to the extension that would take the 12 hour humanitarian ceasefire that began at 8:00 a.m. to midnight. Sami Abu Zuhri, a spokesman for Hamas said there was no agreement to extend the ceasefire. Our war is not against the population," the official said.

Medical staff who helped stop a gunman from killing more people at a Pennsylvania hospital on Thursday have been been hailed as heroes. Dr Lee Silverman, who police say may have been the intended target, and caseworker John D´Alonzo, were able to quickly stop Richard Plotts after he shot dead their co-worker. The 49-year-old, who has a history of mental illness, was attempting to reload his gun when Silverman fired several shots, and D´Alonzo wrestled him to the ground. District attorney Jack Whelan gave new details Friday about the terrifying encounter in an office next to Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital in Darby.

As of now, the two sides in the Gaza war are observing the 12-hour humanitarian cease fire arranged to get aid to civilians in the combat zones, and Israel at least is leaning toward adding another four hours to it. Little other progress has been made in ending the fight, however. The Associated Press report from Gaza notes the tensions, but at least thus far neither side has attacked the other during the lull:(Snip for video)As noted, Kerry failed to negotiate a truce, and the Times of Israel reports why. President Obama has emotionally checked out of his job a couple of years early, it seems. How can one tell? Candidates for president who brazenly assume they are the inevitable victor are sometimes accused of “measuring the drapes” for the White House. Obama, conversely, seems to be prematurely packing his bags in hopes for an early departure. ust last week, for example, the Los Angeles Times reported that “The First Family is believed to be in escrow on a contemporary home in a gated community where entertainers Frank Sinatra, Bob Hope and Bing Crosby once maintained estates”.

House Republican leaders decided to move forward with a vote next week on measure to address the border crisis, including a measure strongly opposed by Democrats that would repeal a 2008 law that delays immigration hearings for children from Central America. Rep. Kay Granger, the Texas Republican who headed a GOP task force that presented a set of proposals that laid the groundwork of the upcoming bill, said it will be introduced as soon as Monday. Citing federal regulations, the Missouri National Guard has refused to show up for an hour-long meet-and-greet with kids at a small Baptist church in the rural southwest corner of the state. Vacation Bible school is sort of a rite of passage in the region — as common locally in the summertime as fireworks on the Fourth of July and sticky, sunny days. For this year’s version, part of the Bible Baptist Church’s theme was “God’s Rescue Squad.” So, on Monday,

Newberg, Org. - A growing number of openly transgender students have forced schools around the country to address questions so basic that they were rarely asked just a few years ago, much less answered: What defines a person’s gender, and who gets to decide? A small Christian college here, George Fox University, has become the latest front in this fight, refusing to recognize as male a student who was born anatomically female. The student calls himself a man, and as of April 11, when a state circuit court legally changed his sex, the State of Oregon agrees. But George Fox University sees him as a woman, and it prohibits unwed students from

Economic inequality in the United States has been receiving a lot of attention. But it’s not merely an issue of the rich getting richer. The typical American household has been getting poorer, too. The inflation-adjusted net worth for the typical household was $87,992 in 2003. Ten years later, it was only $56,335, or a 36 percent decline, according to a study financed by the Russell Sage Foundation. Those are the figures for a household at the median point in the wealth distribution — the level at which there are an equal number of households whose worth is higher and lower.

With terrorist threats at their highest levels since 9/11, Americans must demand that the federal government secure the nation’s borders immediately. No one should be permitted to enter the U.S. without getting screened and having their backgrounds checked. Nobody. Putting aside the flood of illegal Central American kids, we cannot afford to leave our borders so wide open that jihadist terrorists can stroll right in and launch another attack like the marathon bombings, 9/11 or worse. A nation cannot expect to remain sovereign without secure borders. In the roiling Middle East, dangerous Muslim terrorists are multiplying in force. ISIS is

Kerry, who spoke to reporters before a meeting with the Turkish and Qatari foreign ministers about Gaza, made the comments after the State Department announced it evacuated its staff in Tripoli. He blamed the "freewheeling militia violence," caused by jihadist groups which have only grown in power since the ouster of former president Muammar Gaddafi, for creating an environment in which the diplomatic activities at the Libya embassy had to be suspended.
