President Barack Obama has told Central American leaders that migrant children flooding into the US without legitimate legal claims will be sent home. The presidents of Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador met Mr Obama at the White House on Friday to discuss the crisis at the US southern border. [Snip] Mr Obama said they must deter more children from attempting the journey. "All of us recognise that we have a shared responsibility to address this problem," Mr Obama told reporters at the White House on Friday, flanked by Guatemalan President Otto Perez Molina, Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernandez and El Salvador President

The US says it has temporarily shut its embassy in the Libyan capital Tripoli over security concerns. Embassy staff, including marine guards providing security to the embassy, have been evacuated to Tunisia "due to the ongoing violence resulting from clashes between Libyan militias," it adds. The state department has also urged US nationals not to go to Libya. It comes amid fierce clashes between rival militias in the capital, with recent fighting at Tripoli airport. [Snip] State department spokeswoman Marie Harf said the withdrawal "underscored the Obama administration´s concern about the heightened risk to American diplomats abroad".

Moe Norman: Golf´s

It is not unusual to see a photograph of a professional golfer hitting balls on the range in front of a group of interested spectators. But it is unusual when the golfer is a pudgy man in his mid-sixties, and the onlookers include Fred Couples, Ben Crenshaw, Nick Price, and Nick Faldo. The photograph, taken before the 1995 TELUS World Skins Game at the National Golf Club of Canada, captures the fascination even the world´s best players had with the legendary Moe Norman, perhaps the greatest ball striker the game has ever known. Tiger Woods told golf writer Jaime Diaz in 2004, "Only two players have ever truly owned their swings:

Elections Are Coming And Republicans

It’s three and a half months to election time, and Republicans are spinning their wheels over whether they should appear moderate or loaded for bear, whether they should take the high road or the take-no-prisoners low road. If you are a Republican candidate the first and most important thing to understand is this: It really doesn’t matter. Mitt Romney was a high-road candidate like every Republican presidential nominee since Ronald Reagan’s second run. Republicans love to tell uplifting stories that highlight the virtues of the opportunity society they intend to restore when elected. Well and good. But who is going to listen to your story

Senate “Gang of Eight” Republicans are vowing not to try anything sneaky, as Congress considers legislation to address the border crisis. In a statement that underscores the remarkable distance the immigration debate has traveled since their bill passed the Senate with 68 votes last year, the four Republican authors say they do not support bringing up such a bill this year. “Last year, we helped lead the effort to pass immigration reform legislation that received 68 votes in the United States Senate,” Sens. Marco Rubio (R-FL), Lindsey Graham (R-SC), John McCain (R-AZ) and Jeff Flake (R-AZ) said in a joint statement. They went on:

The United States shut down its embassy in Libya on Saturday and evacuated its diplomats to neighboring Tunisia under U.S. military escort amid a significant deterioration in security in Tripoli as fighting intensified between rival militias, the State Department said. "Due to the ongoing violence resulting from clashes between Libyan militias in the immediate vicinity of the U.S. Embassy in Tripoli, we have temporarily relocated all of our personnel out of Libya," spokeswoman Marie Harf said. The withdrawal underscored the Obama administration´s concern about the heightened risk to American diplomats abroad, particularly in Libya where

A year after Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) was the face of the Senate´s Gang of Eight´s immigration reform bill, one of his top immigration aides will help the Chamber of Commerce push amnesty legislation. According to LegiStorm, "Jon Baselice, who covered immigration issues as Rubio´s legislative assistant for the past four years, filed lobbying forms as the Chamber´s new director for immigration policy." Baselice reportedly joined Rubio´s office in January of 2011 and helped Rubio draft the Senate´s immigration bill. The Chamber of Commerce has been one of the most vocal proponents of comprehensive amnesty legislation,

What Hamas Planned To

The IDF has not yet located and destroyed all of Hamas´ terror tunnels, but the consensus about the intent behind them is quite clear. This is Jonathan Dahoah HeLevi of the Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs. Ismail Haniyeh, the Hamas prime minister, delivered a revealing speech on March 23, 2014, in which he stressed the strategic importance of the Hamas attack tunnels, which, he argued, have changed the balance of power with Israel, when taken together with his organization’s military build-up. In the meantime, the IDF’s war against the tunnels continues. On Monday IDF forces thwarted another terror attack after two groups of Hamas

Rick Perry Too Timid

The American people cheered – starved for any crumb of leadership and faithfulness to constitutional duties – at the news of Governor Rick Perry calling out the Texas National Guard to patrol the Texas-Mexican border. Then, within the hour, Texas officials conceded that the inadequate contingent of 1,000 guardsmen will not actually do anything but stand around. Texas officials now admit that the 1,000 guardsmen will simply be a “visual deterrent” – for appearances only. The Texas government argues that the Texas National Guard will not have authority to arrest anyone under the Posse Comitatus law. But that is absurd.

In the largely Orthodox Jewish neighborhood of Chicago’s Petersen Park, residents last Saturday morning found anti-Semitic leaflets on their way to synagogue to observe the Sabbath. The leaflets threatened violence against the community unless Israel stopped the war with Gaza. For those progressive Jews who have found solace in the myth that anti-Zionism has nothing to do with anti-Semitism, the events across the globe of the last few weeks have been a rude and discomforting awakening. And so they turned to their final recourse, the belief that America was different. Sure, there was a pogrom at a synagogue in Paris, but, well,

As with many of America's great fortunes, the Stroh family’s story starts with an immigrant: Bernhard Stroh, who arrived in Detroit from Germany in 1850 with $150 and a coveted family recipe for beer. He sold his brews door-to-door in a wheelbarrow. By 1890 his sons, Julius and Bernhard Jr., were shipping beer around the Great Lakes. Julius got the family through Prohibition by switching the brewery to ice cream and malt syrup production. And in the 1980s Stroh’s surged, emerging as one of America’s fastest-growing companies and the country’s third-largest brewing empire, behind only public behemoths Anheuser-Busch and

Tel Aviv - After nearly three weeks of fighting — notwithstanding the 12-hour pause announced early this morning by Israel — it is time to revisit some basic assumptions about Hamas. Until now, Israel assumed Hamas was the “devil we know,” capable of attacks that were mostly a nuisance; accepting its rule over the Gaza Strip was preferable to risking a vacuum of governance like what we see in Somalia and Libya. But Hamas’s reckless violence in the current round of fighting severely undermined this thinking. First, Hamas has proved a bad ruler. By placing many of its military assets — tunnels to infiltrate Israel, bunkers for its

Even as President Obama grapples with the crisis of immigrant children arriving at the Southwest border, White House officials are laying the groundwork for a large-scale expansion of immigrant rights that would come by executive action within weeks. Roughly 5 million of the estimated 11 million people who entered the country without legal authorization or overstayed their visas could be protected under a leading option the White House is considering, according to officials who discussed

If you want to know which individual political race has the biggest stakes in 2014, look no further than the Land of Lincoln. The Illinois governor’s race pits incumbent Pat Quinn, a Democrat, against upstart non-politician Bruce Rauner. Why are the stakes so huge? Because Illinois is arguably the worst-run state in America. It’s a blue state that has been run for many years by corrupt and bungling politicians, including Rod Blagojevich, who went to jail for trying to sell a U.S. Senate seat, and Mr. Quinn, who has run the state’s finances into the gutter. This year shows no improvement. Even as the national employment picture has

Russia pledged t*t-for-tat measures in revenge for U.S. sanctions, by refusing to allow Americans access to our 150 billion-dollar International Space Station, of which the United States paid 84 percent of the cost. Divorce is always tragic, especially when a couple was married as long as Michael Moore and his now-ex-wife, Kathleen Glynn. Glynn was a partner in film too, producing many of Moore’s best-known works, from “Sicko” to “Capitalism: A Love Story.” The marriage was officially ended this week. But in the process of securing their divorce, Moore and Glynn’s filings have again confirmed that the filmmaker who styles himself a champion of the working class has wealth that would be the envy of many a Wall Street banker. For all his proletarian pretenses, Moore is worth nearly $50 million, and doesn’t seem to mind owning all this

Slandered, despised, insulted, degraded, Israel is nonetheless winning its war against Hamas. The number of rocket attacks launched by the terror group each day has been halved. The IDF is uprooting the underground tunnels Hamas uses to smuggle weapons, contraband, and terrorists in and out of the Gaza Strip. On Wednesday evening, Israel’s Channel Two newscast carried footage of Hamas terrorists surrendering to the IDF. The jihadists carried white flags. They stripped to their shorts, proving they were not wearing suicide belts. These are facts Hamas does not want you to know, images Hamas does not want you to see.
