A woman who witnesses said appeared to be in labor was prevented from crossing an LA street Wednesday afternoon because the road was closed for President Barack Obama’s motorcade. The woman was seen sitting at a bus stop bench on the south side of 3rd Street just east of Robertson Boulevard and across from Cedars Sinai Medical Center. NBC4’s Robert Kovacik shot video on his cell phone of a woman sitting at a bus stop bench and posted it to his Instagram account with the caption, "Woman in labor on bench as motorcade passes; not allowed to cross street to

A San Francisco man arrested on suspicion of posing as a police officer and coercing Central American immigrants into committing sexual acts pleaded not guilty to kidnapping and assault charges, authorities said. Jeffrey Bugai, 35, was charged with two counts of kidnapping with the intent to commit a sex-related offense, said San Francisco Assistant Dist. Atty. Alex Bastian. The charges stem from encounters Bugai allegedly had with two men, Bastian said.

The number of abortions in Texas decreased by about 13 percent statewide and 21 percent in the Lower Rio Grande Valley following the passage of strict abortion regulations that went into effect last November, according to a report that academic researchers released Wednesday. The study, by the Texas Policy Evaluation Project at the University of Texas, which is analyzing the effects of reproductive health-related laws passed during the last two legislative sessions, found that as the number of clinics that provide abortions declined, so did the number of abortions performed statewide. Researchers said the decline was not as large as

Prospect of GOP Senate Ignites
Plan by Schumer To Sideline the Parties

Senator Schumer’s plan for open primaries, issued in the New York Times this week, reminds me of how I became a Republican. I’d been born and raised a Democrat and remained one until 2001, when I discovered that the candidate I wanted to vote for in the mayoral primary, Herman Badillo, was on the Republican ballot. I switched my party registration, and I’ve never looked back (at least not with regret). Mr. Schumer doesn’t want to go that route. Now that the Republicans may well win control of the Senate, he wants to change the primary system so that the

Sarah Palin endorsed underdog state Rep. Joe Carr (R) against Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) Wednesday, lauding Carr´s hard-line stance on immigration. "He’s stood up to those in his own party, fighting to enact some of the toughest illegal immigration legislation in the country and working to make Tennessee the 4th most business friendly state in the nation," Palin wrote in a statement on her Facebook page. Palin thanked Alexander for his many years of service. But she added, "Unfortunately, advocating and voting for amnesty, cash for clunkers, bailouts, raising the debt ceiling, and many controversial Obama administration nominees has marred

How White House Reporters

Paul Farhi of The Washington Post writes today about a trend at the White House—and throughout journalism—that threatens the quality and credibility of news-gathering: Public-relations "minders" are injecting themselves into our interviews with politicians, CEOs, and other policymakers. Minder madness joins the surge of "background briefings" and the decline of access to decision-makers as evidence that the White House—and other big instititutions—are manipulating the press. It´s that, but it´s also something worse: It´s evidence that journalists are ceding control when they should be seizing it, accepting canned news rather than breaking it. Farhi writes, "Almost every officially sanctioned exchange between reporters and

Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk has announced his resignation, Fox News confirms. Yatsenyuk made the announcement from the dais of the parliament after two parties said they would pull out of the governing coalition. "I am announcing my resignation in connect with the collapse of the coalition," Yatsenyuk said. He said the parliament could no longer do its work and pass necessary laws. The nationalist Svoboda party and the UDAR movement led by former boxer Vladimir Klitscho pulled out of the group of legislators that took over after former President Viktor Yanukovich was ousted by protesters seeking closer ties with

Taken in the abstract the illegal alien influx appears singular. However, if you allow yourself to elevate above the current crisis you find a parallel issue which aligns with the Obama goals for illegal alien absorption. You just have to get high enough and look beyond the current crisis horizon to see where they connect. We have already outlined how HHS UAC (Unaccompanied Alien Minor) Grants are essentially a ruse similar to ACORN.(Snip)Around the same timeframe the DACA Executive Order was implemented there was another “fundamental change” program initiated. The National Science Foundation has committed $10 million to build robots that will act as “personal trainers” for children, in an effort to influence their behavior and eating habits. The government has spent $2.15 million so far for the five-year project, which is being led by Yale University. The project, “Robots Helping Kids,” will ultimately “deploy” robots into homes and schools to teach English as a second language, and encourage kids to exercise. The project will develop a “new breed of sophisticated ‘socially assistive’ robots,” designed to help children “learn to read, appreciate physical fitness, overcome cognitive disabilities, and perform

A Montana senator who is running for re-election suggested Wednesday that medication he took for post-traumatic stress disorder after service in Iraq may have been responsible for apparently plagiarized passages in his thesis. Montana Sen. John Walsh´s thesis, which was written to earn a master´s degree from the U.S. Army War College, contains unattributed passages taken word-for-word from previously published papers. The Democrat also said he was dealing with the stress of a fellow veteran´s recent suicide. Walsh said he made an unintentional mistake and did not intend to plagiarize. Over a two-year period, Democratic U.S. Rep. Bruce Braley missed 75 percent of meetings for a committee that provides oversight over the Veterans Administration, including one meeting on a day he attended three fundraisers for his 2012 campaign. A few months later, news reports exposed systemic problems in patient care that have since resulted in the resignation head of the federal department of veterans affairs. Republicans argue that Braley, who missed 15 of the 20 Veterans´ Affairs Committee meetings in 2011 and 2012, has shown a lack of commitment to conditions within the health care system for veterans. Democrats who back Braley, a

On April 8, 2013, I received an envelope in the mail from a nonexistent return address in Toledo, Ohio. Inside was a blank thank-you note and an Ohio state driver’s license. The ID belonged to a 28-year-old man called Aaron Brown—6 feet tall and 160 pounds with a round face, scruffy brown hair, a thin beard, and green eyes. His most defining feature, however, was that he didn’t exist. I know that because I created him. As an artist, I’ve long been interested in identity and the ways it is represented. My first serious body of work, Springfield, used the concept of

President Obama hit the Bay Area for a fast cash-and-grab fundraising drive Wednesday, but there were signs that even in one of the nation´s most reliable Democratic ATMs, donor fatigue is setting in. There was no listed price for tickets for Obama´s morning appearance at a roundtable in San Francisco for the House Majority PAC - the type of intimate gathering for which admission is usually $32,400 per person, the legal maximum. Some donors said tickets had been offered for a deep discount. And in Los Altos Hills, the heart of Silicon Valley big money, the president´s appearance at the

A French Ministry of Defense official tells Fox News that the Air Algerie jet carrying 116 people that vanished from radar shortly after takeoff late Wednesday night has crashed in Mali, and that two French fighter jets have located the wreckage. Air navigation services lost track of the Swiftair MD-83 roughly 50 minutes after takeoff from Ougadougou, the capital of Burkina Faso, at 9:55 p.m. ET Wednesday, the official Algerian news agency said. That means that Flight 5017 had been missing for hours before the news was made public. The wreckage was found near the Malian city of Gao, the official told

Warsaw - The CIA ran a secret jail on Polish soil, the European Court of Human Rights ruled on Thursday, piling pressure on Poland, one of Washington´s closest allies, to break its long silence about the global programme for detaining al Qaeda suspects. The court said it had been established that the CIA used a facility in a northern Polish forest, code named "Quartz", as a hub in its network for interrogating suspected al Qaeda operatives rounded up after the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks. Poland has always denied that the CIA had a jail on its territory, even as leaks from former U.S. intelligence officials, and a Senate investigation, brought more and more

Law enforcement officials told ABC News that by “best friend,” Silva was referring to Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, a former classmate of Silva’s and

Maine´s Republican governor on Wednesday launched a push to make more “able-bodied” people work for their food stamps. “People who are in need deserve a hand up, but we should not be giving able-bodied individuals a handout,’’ said Gov. Paul R. LePage. LePage will reportedly stop seeking a federal waiver — issued at the height of the Great Recession — llowing some food stamp recipients to bypass requirements that they work or volunteer, according to local news channel WCSH. About 12,000 of the state’s residents receiving $15 million annually in food stamps are considered to be able-bodied by Maine’s Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), which administers the aid.

UN Human Rights Council´s

The UN Human Rights Council’s ludicrous decision on Wednesday to open an international inquiry into Israeli violations that may have been committed during Operation Protective Edge in Gaza is outrageously hypocritical. This travesty of justice should be rejected outright by decent people and nations everywhere, as the Prime Minister’s Office in Jerusalem beseeched. Instead of backing Israel’s justifiable right as a democratic state to respond forcefully to clear human rights violations by Gaza’s Hamas rulers both before and during the current military campaign, the international forum in Geneva chose to side with the terrorists.

Memo to Democrats: This is what happens when you pass a law where you can’t fix simple drafting errors. Within hours of each other, two federal courts reached exactly opposite conclusions Tuesday about whether the vague wording of Obamacare allows people to get subsidies through the federal health insurance exchange. One said, sorry, that’s not what the law says. The other said, sure, they can get the subsidies — the Obama administration has the power to do that. The conflicting rulings were another wake-up call for Democrats about the fragility of the health care law — and a reminder that whenever they

Baghdad - Iraq’s leaders selected Fouad Massoum, a longtime Kurdish politician and former guerrilla fighter who took up arms against Saddam Hussein’s regime, on Thursday as the country’s new president, an important step in forming a new government that the international community and Iraq’s religious authorities have called for and described as crucial to confronting a growing Sunni insurgency. Mr. Massoum, 76, replaces Jalal Talabani, who has been president since 2005 and was seen as a rare unifying figure among Iraq’s many factions but has been largely absent from the political scene since suffering a stroke in late 2012.
