London -- An Air Algerie flight, with 116 people on board, has dropped off radar, prompting a search for the missing plane, the airline´s operator said Thursday.Flight 5017 lost radar contact 50 minutes after takeoff from Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, early Thursday. It was supposed to have arrived at Algiers´ Houari Boumediene Airport about four hours later. The plane, an MD-83, is carrying 110 passengers, two pilots and four crew members. The free movement of people within the European Union is "extensively exploited by organised criminals to bring illicit commodities including drugs, human trafficking victims, illegal immigrants and counterfeit goods to Britain," according to a government report. Spain, Italy, Belgium and the Netherlands are key entry and distribution hubs for drugs and other illicit goods before they reach the UK. Europol, the EU´s law enforcement agency, admits that "the free movement of people and goods across the EU’s internal borders reduces the chance of detection," according the report which is part of a series of government reviews on the impact of

Greenpeace is in turmoil after more than 40 staff signed a letter calling two of the group’s most senior officials to resign. The group faced ridicule last month after it emerged that Husting chose to regularly fly between his home in Luxembourg and work in Amsterdam, leaving a massive carbon footprint. [Snip] The letter has spread among the group’s employees and has now been signed by almost all important campaign leaders and senior staff. Only Dutch director Sylvia Borren is missing, as she believes that dismissal is unnecessary. Staff are also angry at Husting’s salary, believing it to be far

Paracetamol ´fails to

Paracetamol has little impact on lower back pain and does not help sufferers recover more quickly, or improve pain levels, sleep or quality of life, research suggests. The painkiller is commonly prescribed for the most common form of back pain which usually feels like an ache, tension or stiffness. The Australian study, published in The Lancet, was the first large randomised trial to compare the effectiveness of paracetamol with a placebo for lower back pain. The study randomly assigned 1,652 individuals with an average age of 45 and with acute lower back pain from 235 primary care centres in Sydney

Norway´s intelligence service today said it has received information about an imminent ´concrete threat´ against Norway from people with links to Islamic fighters in Syria. Benedicte Bjoernland, the head of Norwegian security service PST, said the agency had received ´reliable information´ from a foreign partner about some kind of attack ´within days´. ´It was unspecific about what the target might be,´ Bjoernland said, adding PST has no information about how or when such an attack would take place. The information involves people who have ties with foreign fighters in Syria, she added. According to PST´s assessment last month, about 50 people have travelled

Meriam Ibrahim, the Sudanese Christian woman who faced a death sentence for refusing to renounce her faith, has been flown to Italy on an Italian government jet, accompanied by that country´s vice-minister for foreign affairs. Reuters reported that Italian television broadcast images of Ibrahim, 27, arriving at Rome´s Ciampino airport accompanied by her family and Italian politician Lapo Pistelli. Earlier, Pistelli had posted a picture on his Facebook page depicting himself with Ibrahim and her two children. The US government, which has refused to act decisively to control the horde of children entering the US via Mexico from Central America (estimated to be nearly 60,000 from October 2013 to June 2014) certainly had no compunctions about expelling a helpless child back to terrible conditions in the case of Elian Gonzalez back in 1999 during the Clinton regime. In that case, the Feds were wrong to send a child back to a communist dictatorship, where he lives today, a member of the Union of Young Communists, propagandist for the regime, and personal “friend” of Fidel Castro.

Those individuals have accounted for over 3,000 homicides and over 8,000 sexual assaults. We can’t afford to wait for Washington to secure this border. We’ve had enough.”

Chris McDaniel should either show evidence

IT TOOK just a few words for state Sen. Chris McDaniel to stoke tea party fervor after his runoff loss in the Mississippi Republican primary to incumbent Sen. Thad Cochran. “We’re not done fighting,” he said defiantly to the June 24 election-night crowd. A messy primary was about to get worse. Mr. McDaniel, who lost by about 7,600 votes, claimed that there were voting “irregularities,” insisting that those who voted in the June 3 Democratic primary illegally cast ballots three weeks later in the Republican runoff. He also argued that many voters broke an obscure and unenforceable Mississippi law that

Recently, the Connecticut health exchange decertified one of its Obamacare navigators on the grounds that she had done just that. It may also be the most truly American project in the Western Hemisphere. While the backers of Acquario Ceará are aiming to create a new design symbol for South America, it will be almost entirely a product of North America. Many of the Democrats who tell the world from the bumpers of their hybrids that they’re “Ready for Hillary 2016,” regard Hillary Clinton as something of a rock star. She does, too. The former secretary of state expects to get $275,000 for a speech to a school, a charity or even a capitalist enterprise with more money than it needs. Her fee sometimes exceeds that of the likes of Paris Hilton, the heiress who’s famous for being famous and who got a cool quarter of a million not long ago for thrilling the guests with her presence at an A-list

The US Federal Aviation Agency’s 24-hour ban on travel into Israel’s Ben Gurion International Airport is set to expire. It remains unclear why the Obama Administration decided to suddenly pull the plug on travel into Ben Gurion, as it is widely considered a sophisticated and secure airport. In 2009, the New York Times declared Ben Gurion the world’s safest airport and Israel’s El Al airlines the world’s safest airline. Israeli officials said US Airways and United Airlines are set to restart flights to Israel Wednesday. One-hundred sixty flights at Ben Gurion were canceled Wednesday. The President is in the middle of a three-day fundraising trip to the West Coast, costing us taxpayers millions of dollars. This practice is not new with him, to be sure, as it’s become standard practice over the last 30 years for presidents to sprinkle official events amongst their money-seeking events. Two comments he made at the event last night in Seattle were particularly funny: I will say, for the all the Democrats around here, I’m not overtly partisan.

From Christian colleges challenging ObamaCare´s contraception mandate to the Catholic bishops protesting gay marriage, Christians are among the most unyielding opponents of sexual liberation. Progressives working towards greater public acceptance and support of LGBT rights would no doubt like to see Christians with traditionalist views abandon their old-fashioned doctrines on these matters. Or just go away. Neither will happen. These Christians are bound to their idea of human sexuality because it is fundamentally inseparable from their understanding of God. Put another way: if they´re wrong about sex and gender, then they´re wrong at a very basic level about God, the bible, and

The administration claims it has already accommodated these non-profits, but religious leaders and scholars have argued the "accommodation" is nothing more than an accounting gimmick that still requires conscientious objectors to violate their religious and moral beliefs. The Supreme Court´s Hobby Lobby decision did not resolve whether or not the so-called accommodation was legal, and most observers expect that question to

A 166-page guidance for the government database that includes the “no-fly list” and other lists declared that agents do not require “concrete facts” or “irrefutable evidence” that someone is a terrorist. Instead, the system requires officials have a “reasonable suspicion” that someone could be connected to terrorist activity, which can include “violent acts” that could harm people or property and “intimidation or coercion” that affects

Social conservatives feel betrayed by the popular culture, and why not? If Hollywood depicts someone with a gun or a Bible, he’s a figure of ridicule, entitled to say with Rodney Dangerfield: “I don’t get no respect.” (But Rodney’s was an act, and he got paid for it.) The coastal “sophisticates” mock the rubes, as in an episode on “True Blood,” the HBO series with werewolves, vampires and theocratic bloodsuckers, which depicts two rich Republican stereotypes at a Ted Cruz fundraiser at the George W. Bush Presidential Library in Dallas, where a massacre follows. What fun. Relief is at hand.
