Twelve years after Crocs - the company that makes those brightly colored foam clogs everyone loves to hate - was founded, the footwear is finally falling out of fashion. According to the Wall Street Journal, the shoemaker plans to close between 75 and 100 stores and lay off 183 employees in the coming years. It´s also set to cut back on the number of shoe styles it sells and focus on casual shoes in a bid to boost sales. The company expects the cutbacks to result in savings of $14 million by 2015, reports the website. In October 2007, the company was at its peak with a $6billion market value. But on Monday, shares closed at $14.84,

Sen. Ted Cruz said Wednesday he will hold up all presidential nominees for the State Department until President Barack Obama nominates an inspector general for the department. The Texas Republican said that the attacks on Americans in Benghazi as well as overspending in overseas conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq underscore the need for Obama to select a watchdog to the State Department, which has been missing a permanent IG since Obama assumed the presidency in 2009. “The position has been vacant for almost 2,000 days. This is a crucial oversight position and should be a priority for an agency facing

Chicago - Sewage gushed up Lori Burns’s toilet. It swept the floor. It wrecked the water heater, the deep freezer, her mother’s wedding veil. This basement invasion was the third in five years. Burns, 40, could no longer afford to pay a cleanup crew. So she slipped on polka dotted rain boots, waded into the muck, wrenched out the stand-pipe and watched the brown water drain. The South Side native, a marketing specialist, estimated damages at $17,000. And that did not include what she could not replace: the family heirlooms, the oriental rugs, her cashmere sweaters. The bungalow had flooded four times from 1985 to 2006, when her parents owned it.

Governor spends taxpayer money

Gov. Deval Patrick believes in the old saw that charity begins at home. Your home -- not his. You know by now about his tear-filled decision last week to allow 1,000 more illegal aliens to squat here in the Bay State, on our dime, in your neighborhood -- not his. On Monday, he was in Maine with U.S. Rep. Mike Michaud, who is running for governor of Maine, in the Beautiful People enclave of Saco, accepting the kudos of the smug and the trust-funded. Deval was introduced by a "community organizer" named Nancy Stolberg. "I'm so proud of you, Gov. Patrick," she gushed, "for the announcement that you made the other day from Massachusetts

The New York Times notices the smoke collecting on the ceiling of the auditorium of the world and wonders whether there might be something to worry about. (Snip) Like Sherlock on the trail, he suggests a common cause links them all. But we are advised not to worry, because the president is hot on the trail of the mystery; trying to identify the factor that connects all these catastrophes. Patience is advised, it is not elementary, my dear Watsons. The world is a complex place which only the the very smartest can understand. Little wonder then that in recent days the president seems almost to be suffering geopolitical whiplash.

The Republican chairman of the Federal Election Commission warned Wednesday that his agency colleagues could try to regulate book publishers, during a heated session over a forthcoming book by GOP Rep. Paul Ryan. During the meeting, the FEC declined to definitively spare book publishers from the reach of campaign finance rules. This triggered a clash between Republican and Democratic members, with Chairman Lee Goodman warning that the deadlock could represent a "chill" for constitutional free-press rights. "That is a shame. ... We have wounded the free-press clause of the First Amendment," Goodman told

No public office comes with more trappings, or could be more calculated to give its holder airs and graces, than the presidency of the United States. Yet it is an unpalatable truth for all its aspirants that attaining the Holy Grail of American politics requires a very unholy scramble. [Snip] Why on earth would she do it? That was the question posed openly this week by Barack Obama, the man who elbowed her into an undignified second place in the Democrat primaries of 2008 and now, after six frustrating years in the coveted office, just looks impatient some days for it all to be over. Could it really be worth the candle for those

Michelle Obama may not be having a blood feud with Hillary Clinton, but that doesn’t mean she’s crazy about another Clinton in the White House. The first lady reportedly told people who attended a Manhattan fundraiser earlier in the month that she isn’t at war with either Hillary Clinton or her husband, the former president; however, people who were present say she took a swipe at Hillary Clinton’s presidential aspirations. Obama’s comments came during a question-and-answer session at a fundraiser at the home of financier Charles Myers, according to people who were present.

Colchester – Experts estimate there are nearly 300 adult loons living on Vermont´s lakes and ponds, up from just a couple dozen 30 years ago. On Saturday, more than 200 volunteers spread out across Vermont for the annual loon survey. The results of the survey are trickling in, but Eric Hanson of the Vermont Center for Ecostudies and the coordinator of the Vermont Loon Conservation Project, said there are many more birds now than just a few years ago. He said 15 years ago there were around 100 loons. In 1983, biologists counted only 29. "It is a decent, stable population. I'm hoping that actually things do start to level out.

J´accuse every single Western academic, each intellectual and journalist who has ever circulated and signed a Resolution against Israel and in favor of Hamas is a supporter of Islamist barbarism against Western civilization. They are the West’s equivalent of suicide (or really, homicide) bombers. These are the professors and activists who are, essentially, anti-American in their point of view and who, like President Obama (who studied with them), want a de-militarized and diminished America. The 21st century manifestation of this sentiment in academia is the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement, whose aim is to starve the Israeli government by bullying even
