President Barack Obama may, or may not be, buying a $4.2 million house in Rancho Mirage. (Snip) The home, a hilltop estate in Thunderbird Heights, has been on the market for about a year. Several real estate agents, speaking anonymously, said they heard secondhand that the president was looking to buy the 1993 remodeled home with seven bedrooms and eight bathrooms. The contemporary house sits down the slope from the highest property on Thunderbird Mesa Drive, the home of Michael Smith, a personal friend of first lady Michelle Obama and the interior designer of the Sunnylands Center and Oval Office

This past Saturday (19 July) Fox News ran the following essay by K.T. McFarland, “White House leadership: Reagan on KAL 007 vs. Obama on MH17.” It begins thus: “There is a saying that great men make history and history makes great men. Ronald Reagan was the living example of this when, on September 1, 1983, the Soviet Union, without warning, shot down a civilian Korean airliner flying from New York to Seoul, killing all 269 men, women and children on board.”

The cake was iced, the sandwiches made and the balloons blown up and hanging from the ceiling. All that was needed was the guests and with Prince George the birthday boy, they were never going to be ordinary. The most important guest was his great-grandmother, the Queen, who could be seen perched in the back seat of her car as she was driven through the gates of Kensington Palace in London, and spent 50 minutes with her great-grandson. Looking summery in a floral patterned dress and her trademark pearls with bright red lipsick, the Queen looked delighted to be attending

Are the Obamas heading for the Golden State when they hand back the keys to 1600 Pennslvania Avenue? According to gossiping realtors in California´s Coachella Valley, the President and wife Michelle are buying a $4.25million modern home in a gated community in Rancho Mirage which once counted Frank Sinatra and Bing Crosby as residents. The Obamas are believed to be in escrow for the four-bedroom, 4.5-bathroom home which has sweeping hilltop views, a gym, pool, 20ft waterfall and putting green. China’s terrifying debt ratios

The China-US sorpasso is looming. I do not mean the much-exaggerated moment when China’s GDP will overtake America´s GDP--which may not happen in the lifetime of anybody reading this blog post--as China slows to more pedestrian growth rates (an objective of premier Li Keqiang.) The sorpasso may instead be the ominous moment when China’s debt ratios overtake the arch-debtor itself. I had presumed that this inflection point was still a very long way off, but a new report from Stephen Green at Standard Chartered argues that China’s aggregate debt level has reached 251 per cent of GDP, as of June.

The future of Obamacare was uncertain today after a federal court in Washington, D.C. struck down tax subsidies for Americans who bought insurance through federally-funded exchanges. Within hours the same policy was held up by another court, setting up a Supreme Court showdown. The cases revolve around four words in the Affordable Care Act, which says the tax credits are available to people who enroll through an exchange ´established by the state.´ The rulings affect consumers who purchased their coverage through the federal insurance marketplace--or exchange--that serves 36 states. If the first ruling is upheld by the nation´s

While the world’s attention is focused on Hamas’ targeting of Jewish civilians in Israel, Jews are not the only religious minority in the Middle East under fire. The Obama administration’s decisions to pull troops out of Iraq, support Islamists in Syria, back the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt, protect the Iranian regime, and back terrorist opposition in Libya have led to the destruction of Christian communities throughout the region. Christians have come under the heaviest hand in the Middle East in generations thanks to the weakness of the United States. And it is worthwhile remembering that the presence of Christians in

A loser in the PR battle, Hamas decided to move their international offense to a new front today. Taking advantage of the Malaysian airliner downed by pro-Russian rebels, Hamas is now targeting air traffic entering Israel. Israel National News reports: A rocket hit a home in the city of Yehud, near the airport, on Tuesday morning. Having failed to cause significant casualties due to Israel’s extensive defense systems, Gaza terrorists have focused rocket fire on the area in hopes of disrupting Israeli air travel. Islamist militants in Iraq are reported to have seized an ancient monastery near Mosul and expelled the monks. Local residents said monks at the Mar Behnam monastery were allowed to take only the clothes they were wearing. The monastery, which dates from the 4th Century, is a major Christian landmark and a place of pilgrimage. Christians have fled Mosul after the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (Isis) told them to convert to Islam, pay a tax or face death. Isis has seized large parts of Syria and Iraq and said last month it was creating an Islamic caliphate.

Members of the Islamist extremist militia blamed for the Benghazi terror attack had moved in next door to the U.S. Consulate months before the strike but “nothing was done” despite concerns about the dangerous neighbors, sources tell Fox News. Sources say members of Ansar al-Sharia moved to the house just outside the east wall of the compound within three weeks of American personnel renting the facility, and later used the location to help plan and take part in the attack on the American Consulate on Sept. 11, 2012. The neighbors prompted multiple security requests -- including repeated requests up until the day

American officials believe the missile that destroyed Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 was fired by pro-Russian separatists in Ukraine, using a Russian-made system designed for bringing down fighter jets. That brings up the question: How easy is it to bring down a passenger jet with a weapon that’s meant to used by trained soldiers? Turns out, it’s pretty easy. As in, take a three-day course and go for it easy. The weapon in question is the SA-11, a radar-guided surface to air missile (SAM) system. It’s been around since the Soviets deployed the first-generation model in 1979. The mobile system (it sits on

There were only a few ways Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Tex.) could react to HBO’s “True Blood” portrayal of Texas Republicans being murdered at a fictitious Cruz fundraiser. He could have ignored it, or laughed it off. But he went political. A scene in Sunday’s episode took place at the George W. Bush Presidential Library, where a Cruz function was being held. The vampires who went made disparaging comments about the Republicans in attendance (What do you expect? It’s Hollywood.) and then there was a vicious bloodbath. Chrysler recalls 792,000 older Jeeps

New York - Chrysler recalled about 792,000 older SUVs Tuesday for ignition switch problems. The flaw affects Jeep Commanders from model years 2006-2007 and Jeep Grand Cherokees from 2005-2007. The issue is linked to one accident, but the company is unaware of any related injuries. The problem can cause the ignition key to move out of the "on" position while the car is being driven, usually because it was bumped by a driver´s knee, the company said in a statement. That could cause the engine to stall and the front airbags to stop working. Problems with ignition switches have been found in millions of vehicles recalled this year.

The Denton County Sheriff’s Office says 24 people were arrested late last week during a joint human-trafficking sting that included The Colony Police Department and Homeland Security Investigations. Two 17-year-olds were also rescued, according to spokesperson Sandi Brackeen, and other arrests are expected. But Brackeen says it’s too early to provide further details as this remains “an ongoing investigation.” According to a release from the sheriff’s office, “the focus of this operation was to identify juveniles that have been trafficked in the sex industry and to reduce demand for their services.” Seven escorts were arrested,

Torez, Ukraine - Its white metal shutters are down and business is slow, but this nondescript home improvement store in a decaying rebel-controlled east Ukrainian industrial town could be key to establishing who downed Malaysia Airlines Flight 17. Several locals near the StroiDom store in Torez, about 10 miles from where the plane crashed, said Tuesday that they had seen what appeared to be a missile launcher driving through their town a few hours before the plane was shot down last Thursday. Their story appears to corroborate Ukrainian claims that the separatist rebels had a sophisticated missile launcher and drove it to the site

The last Christians have left one of their holiest cities, running from ISIS demands to become Muslim or be slain—but as a final indignity, their money and even crucifixes were stolen. Friday at noon was the deadline for Christian families to meet ISIS’s demands: Convert to Islam, pay an anachronistic Islamic tax for non-Muslims known as jizya, leave Mosul, or be killed. It is no accident that rhetoric about race has been ramping up at a time when racial politics can be the key determinant for control of the Senate this year. At least three states that have large black populations — North Carolina, Louisiana, and Arkansas — are red states with vulnerable Democrat senators up for re-election. Can racism really be as rampant in America as all the current rhetoric implies? A Google search for “racism” will produce a long list of articles from the most recent week’s news claiming racism on issue after issue of national concern. We need to
