It is no accident that rhetoric about race has been ramping up at a time when racial politics can be the key determinant for control of the Senate this year. At least three states that have large black populations — North Carolina, Louisiana, and Arkansas — are red states with vulnerable Democrat senators up for re-election. Can racism really be as rampant in America as all the current rhetoric implies? A Google search for “racism” will produce a long list of articles from the most recent week’s news claiming racism on issue after issue of national concern. We need to

Libertarian radio host Neal Boortz came to Hillary Clinton’s defense on Tuesday after the potential presidential candidate came under fire in recent weeks for defending a child rapist during her lawyer days in the 1970s. Mrs. Clinton has faced criticism for helping a sex predator avoid a lengthy prison term when she was a defense attorney in 1975. She has defended herself in saying that it was her obligation to represent the man, regardless of if she approved of him. Mr. Boortz, a former attorney, agreed, arguing that the former secretary of state was only doing her duty in upholding the Constitution. “Government has one power that you do

Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter has called for an end to the fighting and bombing in Gaza. “Both sides must distinguish between combatants and noncombatants, and Israel must ensure that its use of force is proportionate in accordance with international humanitarian law. More immediately, all combat operations must stop, and Israeli troops should withdraw from Gaza,” Carter said in a statement released Tuesday. So far, more than 600 Palestinians, mostly civilians, have been killed in the fighting, according to reports. The Israeli death toll is estimated at 29, including two civilians. Humantarian groups have also called for an end to

A former Labour spin doctor has claimed that Ed Miliband wasted his time meeting Barack Obama, and should have seen State Governors instead. McBride worked at Downing Street shortly before the ill-fated meeting between Gordon Brown and President Obama. Your cat may never give up your secrets. But your cat photos might. Using cat pictures — that essential building block of the Internet — and a supercomputer, a Florida State University professor has built a site that shows the locations of the cats (at least at some point in time, given their nature) and, presumably, of their owners. Owen Mundy, an assistant professor of art who studies the relationship between data and the public, created “I Know Where Your Cat Lives” as a way of demonstrating “the status quo of personal data usage by startups and international megacorps who are riding the wave of decreased privacy for all,” Mr. Mundy

The world´s largest flying aquatic insect, with huge, nightmarish pincers, has been discovered in China´s Sichuan province, experts say. According to the Insect Museum of West China, local villagers in the outskirts of Chengdu handed over "weird insects that resemble giant dragonflies with long teeth" earlier this month. Several of these odd critters were examined by the museum and found to be unusually large specimens of the giant dobsonfly, which is native to China and Vietnam. The largest one measured 21 centimeters (8.27 inches) when its wings were open, according to the museum, busting the original record for largest aquatic insect

As the debate examining prohibiting late term abortions has unfolded, I can´t help but think of my youngest grandson who was born a few years ago, weighing only 2 lbs 5 oz at 28 weeks. After his birth, I spent a lot of time with him in the neonatal intensive care unit, watching him grow stronger every day until he was able to finally go home with his family. Witnessing the miracle of his birth and the struggle he had in those early weeks, it breaks my heart that anyone would have a problem with limiting late term abortions and

President Barack Obama’s health-care overhaul suffered a potentially crippling blow as a U.S. appeals court ruled the government can’t give financial assistance to anyone buying coverage on the insurance marketplace run by federal authorities. The decision, if it withstands appeals, may deprive more than half the people who signed up for Obamacare the tax credits they need to buy a health plan. The government will immediately seek review of the court’s decision and in the meantime nothing has changed for people getting premium tax credits, Justice Department spokeswoman Emily Pierce said. A White House official said the U.S. will seek a review

With the D.C. Circuit Court’s decision today that Obamacare, as written, doesn’t authorize the provision of subsidies on federal health-care exchanges — it just does so for those established by states — residents of 36 states may stop receiving insurance subsidies under the law. President Obama could well ignore the decision, which he asserts is perfectly legal, but he’ll also certainly appeal it — either to an en banc hearing of the D.C. Circuit Court (more judges than the three that just heard it) or to the Supreme Court. If the president chooses to ignore the ruling, we can bet

WASHINGTON — Raising beef for the American dinner table does far more damage to the environment than producing pork, poultry, eggs or dairy, a new study says. Compared with the other animal proteins, beef produces five times more heat-trapping gases per calorie, puts out six times as much water-polluting nitrogen, takes 11 times more water for irrigation and uses 28 times the land, according to the study, published Monday in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

Democratic polling firm Public Policy Polling (PPP) has released a new poll of the North Carolina Senate race, featuring Democratic incumbent Kay Hagan squaring off against Republican state house speaker Thom Tillis, with ostensibly good news for the Democrat: She’s up seven points and expanded on her lead. Their headline: “Hagan continues to grow lead.” But dig a little deeper and the story is mixed for the Democrat. Hagan’s seven-point lead is due largely to the libertarian candidate, who is polling 8 percent. In no cycle since 1986 has the libertarian pulled more than 3.4 percent in North Carolina; on

Dr. Ben Carson, a retired neurosurgeon and the author of six best-selling books, said the 2nd Amendment to the Constitution was put there so Americans could support the military, if needed, during a domestic invasion but “more importantly, so that people could protect themselves from an overly aggressive government, if that ever happened.” Carson added that gun rights under the 2nd Amendment are “vitally important,” that he “would never compromise the 2nd Amendment in any way,” and that one of the first things dictators do is confiscate people’s weapons, which “we don’t ever want to allow” in America. DETROIT—Every time she’s asked, Sen. Elizabeth Warren gives the same frustrated answer. No. Nope. She is not running for president. She has literally rolled her eyes at the question. She’s offered to “add an exclamation point.” She’s even signed a letter calling on Hillary Clinton, who leads polls of Democrats by up to 50 points, to run for president. And yet there they were on Friday morning, the people who wanted Warren to reconsider. Days before this year’s Netroots Nation conference, the annual gathering of the online left, an Obama campaign veteran launched a draft campaign called Ready for Warren.

A federal court on Tuesday struck down health insurance subsidies for people in the 36 states that did not set up their own Obamacare exchanges. The ruling "is a repudiation of Obamacare and all the lawlessness that has come with it," Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) tweeted shortly after a three-judge panel in Washington, D.C. issued its ruling in Halbig v. Burwell. While the ruling is a "significant victory for the American people & rule of law...we must not rest," Cruz added. Anyone concerned about the survival of the greatest nation on earth knows that our national sovereignty depends in part on knowing who is coming in to the country, having defined borders and laws pertaining to immigration enforced. Anyone interested in open borders and challenging immigration law that sets definitions and restrictions therefore, either doesn´t understand the consequences, or knows damn well that the nation will not survive-and that ideologically-driven person is our nation´s enemy. Columbus, Ohio — For the first time, working-class whites make up less than half of Ohio´s eligible voters, part of a demographic shift in a key Midwestern swing state that is pushing political parties to widen their appeal beyond the once-dominant bloc. Nationwide, working-class whites — defined as those ages 18 to 64, with less than a bachelor´s degree — are more likely to be socially conservative, less optimistic about their futures and skeptical of big government. But in Ohio, the group has been much more politically divided: encompassing deeply religious, GOP-leaning conservatives in rural areas as well as unionized blue-collar

She said she had a hard time getting ahead and she seemed to think that part of the reason for that was because people like me did not pay their fair share of taxes so that people like her could get the government aid they were entitled to, to level the playing field, she also informed me not to tell her to "try harder" because she had done that and it simply didn't work.
