Hillary Clinton, interview:
´Forgiveness is hard´

It has been said many times that Hillary Clinton’s lack of warmth and empathy cost her the 2008 Democratic candidacy. A friend of mine who is a respected editor told me that she finds her smug and cold. Before our meeting, I watched her appearance on BBC One’s magazine programme The One Show, a televisual happening that was described as “Einstein doing Play School”. I’d go one step further: it was Einstein loving every second of being on Play School. Everything Clinton was asked she responded to with charm, apparent sincerity and, most surprising of all, firecracker wit. When asked

Smiling in happy family snapshots, these are the innocent child victims of Flight MH17. They are among the 80 youngsters thought to have been on board the doomed jet as they travelled with their families on holiday or to visit relatives. Here’s something you don’t see every Sunday: John McCain on a television program. The senator talked to Media Buzz’s Howard Kurtz about Jon Stewart and the Iraq War, criticizing the media for painting America’s withdrawal from Iraq without a residual force as mandated by the Iraqis, which McCain said was “just wrong.” Kurtz asked if Stewart was fair to Republicans. “No,” McCain said. “But, you know, it doesn’t matter really. He’s a comedian.” “He’s also a social critical who has a sizable following among young people,” Kurtz said. (This is a longstanding point of contention with Kurtz.) “He’s a late

Bodies From Malaysia Airlines Flight Are
Stuck in Ukraine, Held Hostage Over Distrust

TOREZ, Ukraine — Three wrenching days after the downing of Malaysia Airlines Flight 17, the bodies of most of those aboard have ended up here, in a fly-infested railway station in a rough coal-mining town in eastern Ukraine. For now, they are stuck, lying in five gray refrigerated train cars in this rebel-controlled war zone, hostages to high politics and mutual distrust. The government in Kiev has accused the Russian-backed rebels who control the area of blocking access to the bodies and the crash site and delaying what is already a very painful process for the families of the dead.

President Obama will announce on Monday that 60 of the nation’s largest school districts are joining his initiative to improve the educational futures of young African-American and Hispanic boys, beginning in preschool and extending through high school graduation. The districts, which represent about 40 percent of all African-American and Hispanic boys living below the poverty line, have committed to expand quality preschool access; track data on black and Hispanic boys so educators can intervene as soon as signs of struggle emerge; increase the number of boys of color who take gifted, honors or Advanced Placement courses and exams; work to

Acting Veteran Affairs Secretary Sloan Gibson assured Congress last week that the VA is working hard to replace its “antiquated” scheduling system, but the Obama administration first received clear notice more than five years ago about the need for an overhaul to reduce patient wait times. “Excessive wait times are addressed by moving to a resource-based management system,” Veterans Affairs technology officials told the Obama-Biden transition team in a briefing report that included mention of VA’s “schedule replacement” project. The Washington Times obtained the report through the Freedom of Information Act. More than five years later, VA officials are hard

Israeli forces on Sunday escalated their ground operations in Gaza City, leading to the deadliest day in the nearly two-week conflict between Israel and Hamas-backed forces amid calls by top U.S. and Israeli officials for a cease-fire. The Israeli military reported that 13 soldiers were killed early Sunday, and Palestinian authorities reported that at least 65 Palestinians were killed as air and tank fire pummeled the city for hours. More than 420 Palestinians, as well as at least 20 Israelis, have been killed since fighting began July 8. Secretary of State John F. Kerry said Hamas, which wants Israel and

Gaza City - Hamas claimed it captured an Israeli soldier Sunday on the deadliest day yet in the battle between Israel and Hamas militants in Gaza. Ron Prosor, Israeli ambassador to the United Nations, denied the report. "There´s no kidnapped Israeli soldier, and those rumors are untrue," he said. According to Abu Obeida, a spokesman for Hamas´ military wing, al-Qassam Brigades, the soldier was taken during an early morning operation. He provided the supposed soldier´s name and ID. "He is a prisoner, and if Zionists lie about the dead and wounded, then the fate of this soldier is their responsibility," the spokesman said.

Convinced that their region has suffered as much Obama administration meddling as it can possibly stand, Israel and Egypt took the extraordinary step earlier this week of jointly rejecting requests by US Secretary of State John Kerry to involve himself in ceasefire talks with the terrorist group Hamas. Israeli and Egyptian diplomats both claim Egyptian efforts to mediate a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas collapsed as a direct result of Secretary Kerry’s announcement he was prepared to join the talks. He apparently made the announcement without first consulting either of the parties. The diplomats are convinced that their own

The Lois G. Lerner emails released this month revealed a potentially huge loophole in federal open-records practices when an IRS tech staffer acknowledged that the agency doesn’t regularly store — and never checks — instant message chats as official government records. Analysts say there is no question that the Internal Revenue Service and all other federal agencies should be storing chats and even cellphone text messages that may constitute official government documents, but a check by The Washington Times suggests that hardly any agency is doing so. Of 17 agencies surveyed by The Times, just two said they had policies

House investigators suspect the Obama administration catered to trial lawyers in the run-up to a proposal that would allow generic drug makers at times to change their labels without FDA approval. Digging into the matter, skeptical Republicans asked the agency in writing last week how they settled on the plan, because the shift would expose the generic drug makers to lawsuits from which they currently are immune. “It seems to us that the proposed rule is not designed to address a health or safety related concern; instead, it is designed to placate special interest groups and increase lawsuits,” Rep. The supermarket ‘talking’ shopping cart Michelle Obama will use to push her over-the-top approved food list is a power push over unsuspecting masses, but would serve as the perfect replacement for her husband’s omnipresent rising sun logo. Six years ago, Barack Hussein Obama arrogantly made himself the rising sun in a logo by putting the sun under his stylized ‘O’, but his wife may have inadvertently come up with a better logo symbol to represent the empty life Barack Obama is bequeathing Americans: Michelle’s government-controlled supermarket shopping cart. It’s a Bizarro Cinderella story. Nineteen-year-old Colorado girl, Shannon Conley, meets thirty-two year old Tunisian terrorist online. He asks her to marry him. She enthusiastically accepts and allegedly pledges to devote her life, (between most likely having innumerable babies), to using her nursing skills to bring wounded terrorists back to health. There’s only one little hitch. This April, the U.S. Marshals showed up at Denver International Airport and arrested Miss Conley before she could hop aboard a jet bound for the Middle East. Miss Conley lived only a few miles down the road from me. She attended our local high schools,

A special intelligence adviser to Army Gen. David H. Petraeus during the 2007 troop surge says the terrorist leader now ruling over large swaths of Iraq and forcing Christians to convert to Islam has long been the most elusive big game for the U.S. “We had at least three times when we thought we killed [Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi],” said retired Army Col. Derek Harvey. “At least three times.” As an intelligence officer, Mr. Harvey acquired near-mythical status: He spent two decades studying Iraq, Saddam Hussein’s regime and the complex tribal networks that form the country’s political fabric. He had the ear of the top brass.

He told himself this wasn´t the end, that someday he´d be released. But the years passed, his appeals failed and nothing changed. Now, after 17 1/2 years as an inmate, Walker may have his best shot at freedom. The Obama administration - responding to mounting concerns about decades of harsh penalties and overcrowded prisons - recently announced it
