SEATTLE- Marijuana stores in Washington state can sell marijuana in cookies, brownies and other approved baked goods but cannot put the drug in candies, lollipops or food items that might appeal to children, according to newly released rules. Washington became the second U.S. state to allow recreational sales of marijuana to adults on July 8 when its first retail stores opened under a heavily regulated and taxed system approved by voters in 2012. The state´s Liquor Control Board, which regulates the fledgling sector, published the guidelines on Wednesday for the packaging and labeling of marijuana edibles. It prohibited any products,

Laughing rebels filmed the plane as it crashed, gleefully bragging ‘That was a blast – look at the smoke!’ while a fireball rose from the debris. One of the voices is believed to be militia commander Igor Strelkov, who then penned a triumphant war cry on Twitter, saying: ‘We warned you – do not fly in “our sky”.’ A sickening mobile phone video posted online shows a pall of black smoke billowing over the crash site as three rebels provide an excited commentary. The extraordinary footage – apparently filmed by the shooters themselves – charts the terrible final moments of the doomed airliner. Their

A Wendy Davis staffer once pleaded guilty to posing as former Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele online in order to illegally obtain his credit report. Lauren Weiner, who was a researcher for the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee in 2005, pleaded guilty in 2006 to obtaining Steele´s credit report by fraud. At the time, Steele was lieutenant governor of Maryland, and was making an unsuccessful run for U.S. Senate from that state. Under a plea agreement reported on at the time by the Washington Post, Weiner could have the charge dropped after a year if she completed 150 hours of

The airspace Malaysian Airlines flight MH17 was flying in when it was shot down was not restricted, but airlines had been warned about the potential dangers, it has emerged. The International Transport Association said that an initial assessment revealed that the airspace the aircraft was travelling through was ´not subject to restrictions´. The Malaysian Airlines flight lost contact with aircraft control when it was flying over eastern Ukraine. Nine Britons and 27 Australians, according to Dutch authorities, and fears of up to 23 Americans are among the 295 that have lost their lives. The Geneva-based group said in a statement: ´Based on the information

Ever since 9/11, it seems no tragedy or act of mass violence can go without a litany of Internet tin foil-types flapping their yaps about it on the Internet. It didn’t take long after Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17 crashed in the Ukraine for the conspiracy theories to begin surfacing. No, it didn’t take long at all. A roundup of the early theories: 1. Whatever brought down the plane was actually intended to bring down Putin: Russia Today cites a report from the Interfax News Agency quoting unnamed sources who claim the doomed flight had a similar path as a plane carrying Russian President Vladimir

On Wednesday, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce claimed that it has never supported amnesty, despite vowing to spend at least $50 million to ram through amnesty legislation and oppose anti-amnesty and Tea Party candidates. "The U.S. Chamber does not support amnesty and never has," Sean Hackbarth wrote on behalf of the Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday. The Chamber of Commerce took issue with Rush Limbaugh´s statement that the Chamber would not finance candidates in 2016 who do not support comprehensive amnesty legislation because Limbaugh, though capturing the gist of the Chamber´s stated intentions, did not accurately quote Chamber of Commerce

Geopolitics: Vladimir Putin blew through Latin America last week, handing out goodies to anti-U.S. regimes. But he insists he doesn´t want to reopen an old spy base in Cuba, which we find disingenuous. The scope of the Russian president´s visit took the U.S. by surprise. Instead of just attending the World Cup final and a summit of BRICS countries, Putin made an unexpected visit to Nicaragua, with talk of a military land base there. He then flew to Argentina, reportedly with promises for two nuclear plants, and on to Venezuela to offer a credit lifeline. Last but not least, Putin stopped in

Higher Education: A university student newspaper has editorialized against a required class teaching America´s founding documents. That should make the left happy. It wants to erase those records from our minds. A July 8 editorial in the University of South Carolina´s Daily Gamecock is critical of the "state law which requires students to learn about the U.S. founding documents, including the Constitution." "Most students don´t need" the class, the Gamecock argues, adding that "it´s almost insulting to require students to pay for a class" they took for free in high school. Middle East: Out of pure self-preservation, Israel may end up taking back Gaza. Its large, almost entirely Arab population should celebrate, because life under their supposed enemies is preferable to terrorist Hamas rule. After a torrent of rocket attacks on Israeli population centers in recent weeks, Israel responded by bombing numerous targets in northern Gaza. And now an Israeli ground invasion of the coastal Gaza Strip has begun — possibly to be followed by a long-term re-occupation. Gaza has been ruled by Syria, by Egypt, and now, thanks to the ballot box, by the terrorist group Hamas. Not for nothing did Melville

The Hague - A young Dutchman apparently posted a picture of the downed Malaysian airliner on Facebook minutes before he boarded it, writing: "If it should disappear, this is what it looks like." Cor Pan, who appeared to be going on a beach holiday to Malaysia, posted the photo as a joking reference to another Malaysia Airlines flight that mysteriously disappeared over the Indian Ocean in March. A few hours later his flight too would disappear from radar screens, taking him and the other 297 people on board the Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur flight to their deaths in eastern Ukraine. Gaza City, Palestinian Territories: Israeli air strikes in Gaza killed four children on Thursday, medics said, after a humanitarian lull in a 10-day conflict that has killed 237 Palestinians. One strike hit the Sabra neighborhood of central Gaza, killing three children — Jihad, Waseem and Fulla — from the Shuheiber family, emergency services spokesman Ashraf Al-Qudra told AFP. Their deaths were the first to follow the end of a five-hour humanitarian cease-fire, which brought some respite for residents of the besieged Palestinian territory. Another strike shortly afterwards in the southern city of Khan Yunis killed four-year-old girl

On September 1, 1983, Soviet fighter aircraft shot down Korean Air Lines flight 007 which had inadvertently entered Soviet airspace on its way from Anchorage to Seoul. All 269 people on board were killed. President Reagan swiftly condemned “this crime against humanity,” which only redoubled his desire to bring down the “evil empire” (as he had called the Soviet Union earlier that year). We can only hope for similar moral clarity today from the U.S. and Europe in the aftermath of the equally outrageous shooting down of Malaysian Airlines flight 17 over Ukraine with 295 people on board including more
