Gaza Would Be Better Off
Under The Israelis They Hate

Middle East: Out of pure self-preservation, Israel may end up taking back Gaza. Its large, almost entirely Arab population should celebrate, because life under their supposed enemies is preferable to terrorist Hamas rule. After a torrent of rocket attacks on Israeli population centers in recent weeks, Israel responded by bombing numerous targets in northern Gaza. And now an Israeli ground invasion of the coastal Gaza Strip has begun — possibly to be followed by a long-term re-occupation. Gaza has been ruled by Syria, by Egypt, and now, thanks to the ballot box, by the terrorist group Hamas. Not for nothing did Melville

The Hague - A young Dutchman apparently posted a picture of the downed Malaysian airliner on Facebook minutes before he boarded it, writing: "If it should disappear, this is what it looks like." Cor Pan, who appeared to be going on a beach holiday to Malaysia, posted the photo as a joking reference to another Malaysia Airlines flight that mysteriously disappeared over the Indian Ocean in March. A few hours later his flight too would disappear from radar screens, taking him and the other 297 people on board the Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur flight to their deaths in eastern Ukraine. Although there has

A passenger on the Malaysian Airlines flight that crashed in eastern Ukraine appears to have posted an ominous message before the plane took off from Amsterdam´s Schiphol airport. The man, identifying himself on Facebook only as "Cor Pan", posted a photo showing the aircraft parked at its gate. Alluding to missing Malaysian Airlines flight MH370, whose fate has been unclear for months, he added a comment to the picture: "In case it disappears, this is what it looks like." While it is theoretically possible to manipulate both the time and location shown alongside a photo, the reactions underneath the photo speak for

The United States on Thursday urged Israel to do more to protect civilians caught in the crossfire between the Israel and Hamas, after Palestinian Arabs claimed to international media that four children were killed during an IAF air strike. "We ask (Israel) to redouble their efforts to prevent civilian casualties. We believe there is more that can be done," State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki told reporters. "We believe that certainly there is more that can be done." "The tragic event makes clear that Israel must take every possible step to meet its standards for protecting civilians from being killed," Psaki added. It is

RUSH: National Journal. Now, it was earlier this week, and it was TheHill.com, and I know you´ll remember because I spent an inordinate amount of time on this. It was a story that had a headline which essentially said that amnesty, "comprehensive immigration reform," has "fizzled" as an issue, as a winning electoral issue for the Democrats. I spent a lot of time asking: How in the world can that be? We have been told for how many years now, consecutive years, that it´s the only hope for the Republican Party? If they ever want to win the White House again, they´re

RUSH: Here´s President Obama, by the way, Wilmington, Delaware, port of Wilmington, he spoke about the downed Malaysian Airlines passenger jet in Ukraine. Listen to the profundity here of the opening line. Are you ready? Just listen. It´s about 27 seconds, but just listen. I mean, this is raw intelligence. This is the kind of intelligence, folks, that we expected back in 2008. This is what they all meant when they said, "He´s a man unlike any who has ever walked among us! Gaza City, Palestinian Territories: Israeli air strikes in Gaza killed four children on Thursday, medics said, after a humanitarian lull in a 10-day conflict that has killed 237 Palestinians. One strike hit the Sabra neighborhood of central Gaza, killing three children — Jihad, Waseem and Fulla — from the Shuheiber family, emergency services spokesman Ashraf Al-Qudra told AFP. Their deaths were the first to follow the end of a five-hour humanitarian cease-fire, which brought some respite for residents of the besieged Palestinian territory. Another strike shortly afterwards in the southern city of Khan Yunis killed four-year-old girl

Jon Stewart was exactly right during the open of his Monday show this week: The world really has gone mad. (Snip) President Obama has faced the same kind of criticism in regards to his reaction to big events as well. But in Mr. Obama’s case, there’s an unsettling and dumbfounding pattern that has clearly emerged: The need to attend fundraisers as important events–the kind of events that call for the President to return to the White House Situation Room for monitoring and assessment of said events while being debriefed by military brass and talking with our allies, including Israel–unfold in real time. But as we’re seeing here in

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered the Israeli Defense Forces to “prepare for further expanding the ground operation in Gaza if needed,” according to Haaretz correspondent Barak Ravid. As of 12:17 a.m. local time, Israel will call up an additional 18,000 reservists, bringing the total number of Israeli troops at the Gaza border to 60,000, according to the Guardian. According to Jon Karl, a White House reporter for ABC, the lockdown was caused by an "unattended package" that was found along the North Lawn fence. The possible shootdown of a Malaysian Airlines 777 over Ukraine with the loss all aboard may represent a new and disturbing trend in that conflict. For Ukraine represents the flashpoint between east and west at its most immediate. (Snip) If Leading from Behind is working it’s not obvious. The president has spent the last few weeks laughing at everything. But now he is faced with something possibly new and disturbing; something which a speech or an executive order won’t handle. The commercial break couldn’t come soon enough. MSNBC’s coverage of downed Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17 took an awkward turn when a Howard Stern fan pranked “The Cycle” anchor Krystal Ball with a bogus eyewitness account. “Well I was looking out the window and I saw a projectile flying through the sky and it would appear that the plane was shot down by a blast of wind from Howard Stern’s ass,” the man told Ball, who thought she was speaking with Sgt. Michael Boyd of the US Embassy in Ukraine. Unfortunately, the interview didn’t end there. Ball continued the exchange, asking, “Can you tell us anything more from your military

WASHINGTON – George Washington University law professor Jonathan Turley and former Acting U.S. Solicitor General Walter Dellinger engaged in an intense but friendly back-and-forth on Capitol Hill Wednesday. Sitting as witnesses before the House Rules Committee, they debated a host of arcane constitutional issues, lodging points and counterpoints to one another’s arguments about whether the House of Representatives can sue the president of the United States. The Turley/Dellinger tête-à-tête featured court case citations, historical precedent and the intentions of the Founders. Reduced to bystanders, lawmakers listened in rapt attention from the dais, mulling the polite dialogue between two of the nation’s most-nimble

Barack Obama provoked fury in the U.S. by casually devoting mere moments to the deaths of 295 people aboard a Malaysian airliner on Thursday in Wilmington, Delaware, and then launching into jokes and his prepared remarks on the need to expand America´s transportation infrastructure. Twenty-three Americans are feared dead after the jetliner crashed in eastern Ukraine. Obama declared that ´it looks like it may be a terrible tragedy, but not before enthusiastically declaring that ´it is wonderful to be back in Delaware.´ ´Before I begin, obviously the world is watching reports of a downed passenger jet near the Russia-Ukraine border. On September 1, 1983, Soviet fighter aircraft shot down Korean Air Lines flight 007 which had inadvertently entered Soviet airspace on its way from Anchorage to Seoul. All 269 people on board were killed. President Reagan swiftly condemned “this crime against humanity,” which only redoubled his desire to bring down the “evil empire” (as he had called the Soviet Union earlier that year). We can only hope for similar moral clarity today from the U.S. and Europe in the aftermath of the equally outrageous shooting down of Malaysian Airlines flight 17 over Ukraine with 295 people on board including more

The plane went down around 11:30 ET, possibly with Americans on board and most assuredly with dire consequences for eastern European geopolitics. But since we’re in the post-optics “YOLO” phase of lame-duckery, that’s really no reason to cancel a fun day out. At approximately 12:50 pm, the motorcade stopped at the Charcoal Pit, a popular, established restaurant just north of Wilmington, Del. Known for its burgers and sundaes. Obama shook hands and mingled with many of the diners, stopping at one point to pick up seven-month old Jaidyn Oates, and pose for a photo. He invoked Vice Presiident Biden’s name

Baghdad - A powerful Iranian general has emerged as the chief tactician in Iraq’s fight against Sunni militants, working on the front lines alongside 120 advisers from his country’s Revolutionary Guard to direct Shiite militiamen and government forces in the smallest details of battle, militia commanders and government officials say. The startlingly hands-on role of Iranian Gen. Ghasem Soleimani points to the extent of the Shiite-led Iraqi government’s reliance on its ally Tehran. It also strikes a strong contrast with the more methodical, cautious approach of the United States, Iran’s rival for influence in Iraq. Shiite fighters have come to

The Netflix documentary Mitt ought to be required viewing for American voters, and particularly the low-information types who cast their ballots for Barack Obama’s 2012 re-election. Mitt chronicles the 2008 and 2012 presidential campaigns of former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney, and in it one can see the effects a long and grueling presidential campaign can have on a candidate and his family. One can also see the chasm between who a man really is and what he’s portrayed to be by his political opponents and the media. The Romney in Mitt is a man America would happily choose as its president:
