KIEV, Ukraine -A Ukrainian fighter jet was shot down by an air-to-air missile from a Russian plane and Ukrainian troops were fired upon by missiles from a village inside Russia, a spokesman for Ukraine´s Security Council said Thursday. The alleged episodes mark what Ukraine says is mounting evidence that Moscow is directly supporting the separatist insurgents in eastern Ukraine who have been seen to have substantial quantities of powerful weapons in recent weeks. Security Council spokesman Andrei Lysenko said the pilot of the Sukhoi-25 jet hit by the air-to-air missile Wednesday evening was forced to bail after his jet was

Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) criticized Senate Democrats and their legislation to circumvent the Supreme Court’s Hobby Lobby decision by explaining that their bill would impose “faith fines” on groups like the Little Sisters of the Poor, who refuse to subsidize abortion-inducing drugs, and asked, “Mr. President, when did the Democratic Party declare war on the Catholic Church?” “The bill that is being voted on this floor, if it were adopted, would fine the Little Sisters of the Poor millions of dollars unless these Catholic nuns are willing to pay for abortion-producing drugs for others,” said Sen. Sydney - Australia has become the first nation in the developed world to wind back legislation aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions, after the Senate voted to scrap the controversial carbon tax on Thursday. The vote has delivered a major victory to the conservative government of Prime Minister Tony Abbott, who went into last year’s election promising to abolish the “toxic tax” which he said threatened the nation’s economy, the world´s 12th largest. After days of tense negotiations the repeal bill passed the Senate 39 to 32.

Among the downbeat is Steve Brown, a 44-year-old guitarist who plays classic-rock tunes for a living. Despite a brush with fame, Mr. Brown doesn´t shy away from even the most cringe-worthy of gigs. One day he´ll perform for thousands at a festival with his rock band, Trixter, whose videos briefly topped MTV´s charts in the 1990s.

It would appear the Patriotic U.S. Sleeping Giant is awake, at least on this issue. What follows below is a little more depth on the issue of “Faith Based” organizations and those receiving federal grants to facilitate illegal immigration. We have received numerous requests to turn the eye of research into exactly what these organizations are. Specifically, one group

The NSA whistleblower, Edward Snowden, has urged lawyers, journalists, doctors, accountants, priests and others with a duty to protect confidentiality to upgrade security in the wake of the spy surveillance revelations. Snowden said professionals were failing in their obligations to their clients, sources, patients and parishioners in what he described as a new and challenging world. "What last year´s revelations showed us was irrefutable evidence that unencrypted communications on the internet are no longer safe. Any communications should be encrypted by default," he said. The response of professional bodies has so far been patchy.

Brussels & Vienna - With talks between world powers and Iran over a broad nuclear accord at an impasse, Western governments are considering offering a significant easing of sanctions early on in the process to try to wring concessions from Tehran, diplomats say. To be effective, such a plan would have to involve clear guidance to companies made wary by U.S. fines for sanctions-busting, be reversible and not go too far, or skeptical U.S. lawmakers would simply reimpose restrictions. The OPEC oil producer has seen its economy devastated by years of sanctions imposed over its contested nuclear program, which Western states say appears to be

Dinesh D’Souza’s latest film, “America, Imagine a World Without Her,” which earned a rare A+ rating from CinemaScore, is apparently such a threat to progressive ideology that Costco initially ordered the book on which the movie is based removed from its shelves. One can understand why: the film is a devastating takedown of those who see America as the primary source of evil in the world. The picture opens with a what-if scenario that includes the assassination of George Washington by a British sniper, and the subsequent disintegration of Mount Rushmore, the Lincoln Memorial, the Iwo Jima Memorial, and the

Many in the crowd carried AR-15 rifles and handguns — the latest sign of the growing unrest around the nation that’s marking the federal government’s response to tens of thousands of illegals crossing into U.S. territories in recent months. They also carted “Don’t Tread on Me” flags and a “Second Amendment Revolution” flag, a design that includes the basic Betsy Ross pattern with the Roman number II and a circle of 13 stars,
