Did the GOP Just Take a

Imagine a volunteer for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in Arkansas, trying to assist Rep. Tom Cotton in his race against Democratic Sen. Mark Pryor, knocks on a voter´s door in Little Rock and discovers the potential GOP supporter owns a gun. In the world of voter outreach, it´s a potentially crucial piece of information; with the right pitch from a group like the National Rifle Association, for instance, it could prove decisive in getting that voter to pull the lever for Cotton. Except, in years past, it´s also the kind of information that the two separate groups would never share

‘Here’s the difference between us,” Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu explained on Fox News Sunday. “We’re using missile defense to protect our civilians, and they’re using their civilians to protect their missiles.” It’s a classic talking point. It’s also objectively true, and that truth is very frustrating for Israel’s critics. All one needs to do is delve into the muck of Twitter and read the timelines for such hashtags as #GazaUnderAttack and #GenocideInGaza: “They’re killing the women and children to ensure there won’t be a new generation of Palestine.” “One Holocaust can NEVER justify another.”

Bar none. Go ahead, I dare you to read it and not thump your head against the nearest wall. It starts badly enough: Contrary to what those who defend the right to own high-powered assault rifles believe, not all guns are created equal. Due to a combination of availability, portability and criminal usage the following five types of guns are the country’s most dangerous. And then gets worse. The link takes you to the instantly infamous piece in Rolling Stone by some poor lassie named Kristen Gwynne entitled, “The Five Most Dangerous Guns in America.” Now, most normal people reading that might

Millennials´ Political Views
Don´t Make Any Sense
Atlantic, by Derek Thompson    Original Article

Millennial politics is simple, really. Young people support big government, unless it costs any more money. They´re for smaller government, unless budget cuts scratch a program they´ve heard of. They´d like Washington to fix everything, just so long as it doesn´t run anything. That´s all from a new Reason Foundation poll surveying 2,000 young adults between the ages of 18 and 29. Millennials´ political views are, at best, in a stage of constant metamorphosis and, at worst, "totally incoherent," as Dylan Matthews puts it. It´s not just the Reason Foundation. In March, Pew came out with a similar survey of Millennial attitudes

WASHINGTON — The White House likes to use a phrase of tingling adventure to describe the president’s recent penchant for wandering the country talking to people: “The bear is loose.” There are three problems with this unbearable metaphor: Barack Obama is not in captivity, he’s not a bear, and he’s not loose. As Voltaire said of the Holy Roman Empire, it was “neither Holy, nor Roman, nor an empire.” When our whippetlike president travels on Air Force One from staged photo-op to staged photo-op and then to coinciding fund-raiser to coinciding fund-raiser, encased by the White House travel behemoth and

Two of the larger social trends of our time — the growth of payday gambling and the legalization of marijuana — have two things in common: They are justified as the expansion of personal liberty, and they serve the interests of an expanding government. The ideological alliance behind these changes is among the strangest in U.S. politics. Libertarians seek to lift governmental restraints on consensual acts. State governments seek sources of revenue without the political inconvenience of requesting broad tax increases. Both find common ground in encouraging and exploiting the weaknesses and addictions of citizens. (And business interests and their lobbyists,

Although a fierce critic of Barack Obama, former Vice President Dick Cheney does not support calls from some on the far right of his party to impeach him, saying it would simply create a distraction. "I´m not prepared at this point to call for the impeachment of the President," Cheney said in an interview with CNN´s "The Lead with Jake Tapper." Cheney believes Obama is "the worst president of my lifetime" and that "Jimmy Carter might have been a better President," but impeaching him is not going to accomplish much. Both Obama and Carter are Democrats, while Cheney is a

Thanks to our friends at Washington Free Beacon, you’ll never have to watch a Barack Obama speech again. Reason being, this 76-second video shows you everything he’s going to say. He will: Tell you it’s great to be back in whatever town he’s in. Tell you to have a seat – twice. Appreciate the introduction. Love you back. Recommend building more roads and bridges. Say the economy grows from the middle out. Say the wealthy have to “pay their fair share.” Blame Republicans in Congress for everything. Encourage you to vote rather than boo.

Republicans fired back today at Democrats’ plans to counter the Supreme Court’s Hobby Lobby decision that allows a contraception exclusion for closely-held companies with religious beliefs, saying they will propose a measure of their own. It was a dose of election year reality, dashing Democratic efforts at drawing bipartisan support for their plan. Sen. Kelly Ayotte, R-N.H., said the dialogue has been driven away from the religious freedom rationale of the ruling and distorted for political leverage. “I really am disappointed that my colleagues on the other side of the aisle would try to score election-year points by misrepresenting what the Hobby Lobby

GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip -- Israel on Wednesday intensified air attacks on Hamas targets in the Gaza Strip following a failed Egyptian cease-fire effort, targeting the homes of four senior leaders of the Islamic militant movement. It also told tens of thousands of residents to leave Gaza´s border areas ahead of more strikes. The Palestinian death toll in nine days of fighting rose to 204, with some 1,450 wounded, Palestinian health officials said. On the Israeli side, one man was killed and several people were wounded since the fighting erupted on July 8. The renewed bombings came a day after Israel initially

I discovered someone this week who embodied the practices that I believe would restore our republic to its former heights of glory. He´s not a politician -- no surprise there. He´s not a television pundit. He hasn´t written a book. He´s not a household name. He wasn´t a war hero, but he did serve in the U.S. military and was a culture and community warrior who bore a few classic American characteristics that our country needs now more than ever. Charles H. (Chuck) Norris, 88, of rural Mason City, Iowa, was born July 23, 1925 -- just four years after the

President Obama’s domestic agenda seems to pursue a variety of disparate goals, but in reality he was put in office to achieve one goal only: to support the Party by supporting its infrastructure, what I call the Democratic National Machine. Most Americans are aware of the Democratic Machines that ran large cities such as Chicago, New York, Boston, and Philadelphia. Of these, the Chicago Democratic Machine had the longest history and its strategies are still practiced by President Obama. Those local Machines have been united into a national infrastructure I call the Democratic National Machine. The DNM’s sole purpose is to

America’s current political strife stems largely from a simple misunderstanding that occurred back in November 2007. Many of us thought we were voting for a candidate for the office of president, but Barack Obama thought he was running for Philanthropist-in-Chief, a position that would entitle him to skip the part where he actually had to earn wealth before giving it away. White House policy is being driven by an über-left version of social justice that has deep roots in liberation theology and Marxism. At the start of the year, I told a friend to keep an eye on Mike Huckabee. He just had the look of a man running for president. Frankly, I think that he is one of the most qualified people ever denied the presidency. Let me add another one - Governor Rick Perry of Texas. By now, everyone knows that Hillary Clinton’s memoir Hard Choices is a disaster of such enormous political and financial proportions that it should have been titled “Heaven’s Gate” — a reference to the most infamous Hollywood box office bomb of all time. So how are Bill and Hillary taking this depressing news? And what, if anything, are they planning to do about it? For an answer, I spoke to two sources — one in Bill’s inner circle, the other in Hillaryland (as Hillary’s court is called) — and although these two sources do not know each other, they confirmed the same story: Believe it

Everyone knows there are gays and lesbians in everybody’s family. And no office would be complete without a sassy gay character. And just about every other kid in high school is wresting with his sexuality. I know. I watch TV. Except it isn’t true, and the Centers for Disease Control just proved it. A new comprehensive study by the CDC with over 33,000 participants has confirmed earlier estimates; less than 3 percent of the U.S. population self-identifies as gay, lesbian or bisexual. Earlier, much smaller-scale surveys have put that number at 4 percent. The National Health Interview Survey (NHIS), published

On ABC´s "This Week" on Sunday, U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder, who happens to be black, suggested that opposition to him and President Barack Obama in part is due to racial animus. For that, he has been vilified. He has been accused of trying to scare people to the polls (as if listening to the evening news wouldn´t already do that), stoking racial divisions and throwing down the race card. And he is asked rhetorically "is it possible to oppose Obama and not be a racist?" The response to the attorney general´s words has been very heated, and there is an obvious

By so doing, he articulated the gaping divide in the Republican ranks. After a string of juvenile insults of various leaders of the limited government movement, Gerson bottom lined it, approvingly quoting from a recent National Affairs piece by Phillip Wallach and Justus Myers: Tea Partiers and other limited government advocates "seek to break with the past in a very different manner –

If the recent Mississippi Senate primary was a GOP establishment bellwether, the Republican Party is in deep trouble. By resorting to a disingenuous and morally bankrupt campaign to win at all costs, the establishment exposed itself to be into politics only for the power. In order to grow the GOP and consistently win at the ballot box in November, Republicans need to start earning votes with conservative ideas, not government handouts. Since the Republicans’ dismal showing in the 2012 elections, party leaders have been working to revitalize the GOP by expanding the tent. The Growth and Opportunity Project — more commonly referred
