Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said his country has no interest in developing a nuclear weapon — and insisted that nukes would reduce Iran’s influence in the region, in an interview with David Gregory of NBC´s “Meet the Press” scheduled to air Sunday. “We don´t see any benefit in Iran developing a nuclear weapon,” Zarif said, adding that the country would take whatever steps necessary to convince the world it is not seeking nuclear weapons. “It doesn´t help anybody. The fact that everybody in the international community believes that mutual assured destruction — that is the way the United States, Russia and others,

Will Romney run? The 2016

Think Mitt Romney won´t run again in 2016? For those dismissing the possibility of the two-time presidential candidate launching another bid -- and they may be wise to do so -- a recent poll at least shows the former GOP nominee still has a loyal following in parts of the country. First, the reality check. Romney, after two tiring presidential campaigns, consistently has said he is not running. But the University of New Hampshire/WMUR-TV poll in the first-in-the-nation primary state of New Hampshire recently showed Romney with 30 percent support -- blowing away a crowded field of potential 2016 Republican candidates who fail

Washington - The thousands of undocumented minors in U.S. detention facilities includes an unknown number of pregnant teenaged immigrants. The pregnant minors have been moved into longer-term shelters operated by the Department of Health and Human Services in order to provide federally funded health care. (Snip) The rush of children, many of whom are trafficked by drug cartels and other criminal organizations, has become not only a strain on the asylum process but a political nightmare for the Obama administration. It is unclear how many of the minors are pregnant and now in HHS custody, and HHS spokesman Kenneth Wolfe

The record flood of Central American children crossing the U.S. border is stretching funds and setting off improvisation at public schools. While politicians spend the summer fighting over how to turn back the tide, school leaders across the country are struggling to absorb a new student population the size of Newark, New Jersey. More than 40,000 children, many of them fresh from violent, harrowing journeys, have been released since October to stateside relatives as courts process their cases. "These kids were homesick and heartbroken," said Robin Hamby, a family specialist for Fairfax County Public Schools in suburban Washington,

Border crisis scrambling the
politics of immigration policy
Washington Post, by Karen Tumulty and David Nakamura    Original Article

Until now, the politics of immigration have been seen as a no-lose proposition for President Obama and the Democrats. If they could get a comprehensive overhaul passed, they would win. And if Republicans blocked it, the GOP would further alienate crucial Hispanic and moderate voters. But with the current crisis on the Southwest border, where authorities have apprehended tens of thousands of unaccompanied Central American children since October, that calculus may be shifting. Republicans and even some Democrats have accused Obama of being insufficiently engaged in a calamity that many say he should have seen coming.

Morality vs. Immigration: It´s

There are pastors and bishops in Alabama who have attempted to turn immigration into a moral issue and have deemed it un-Christian to deal with illegal aliens and deport illegal trespassers. But they are mistaken. If we turn to the Holy Bible to learn what God says about this issue, we see that God himself established the nations after Noah’s flood, according to Genesis 10:32. And the Book of Deuteronomy tells us that not only did God separate the nations, but he also set the borders of the first nations. This truth is further attested in the New Testament in the Book of Acts, which states that God made the nations and set the bounds of

Nearly three quarters of American Muslims like the job President Obama is doing — by far the largest backing of any religious group, a new survey released Friday reveals. The Gallup Poll, conducted from January through June, found that 72 percent of Muslims approve of Obama’s performance, compared to 55 percent of Jews, 44 percent of Catholics and 37 percent of Protesants. Mormons were least supportive — only 18 percent gave Obama a thumbs up and 78 percent offered a thumbs down. The Muslim support should not come as a surprise given Obama’s Muslim roots. Though a practicing Christian, Obama’s father, Barack Obama Sr.,

Nashville - Gov. He called for action from President Obama and members of Congress, but did not elaborate on what response he believes should be taken to address the thousands of undocumented immigrant children now being housed at various government shelter

Nashville - New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie said Saturday that while same-sex marriage is “settled” in New Jersey, it’s not time for opponents to give up the fight. Speaking to reporters at the National Governors Association, Christie said it is not time for Republicans to drop the issue, which is entrenched in the party’s platform but contributes to the party’s difficulty with younger voters. “I don’t think that there’s going to be some major referee who’s going to say now it’s time to stop,” he said, referencing his own opposition to the unions. “Certainly I’m not going to, because these are opinions that I feel strongly about.”

I just want to say one word to you. Just one word: pot. Yes, it almost harks back to a classic scene in “The Graduate.” A growing number of schools offering courses in all things weed-related are trying to pull young people with the promise of newly created jobs in the booming medical marijuana field. The Northeastern Institute of Cannabis, in Natick, Mass., will start offering a 12-course program by September. Those who pay $1,500 for the privilege get a “cannabis industry certification.” To enroll, students must either have a high school diploma or a GED. Harare, Zimbabwe — President Robert Mugabe’s statement early this month that whites will no longer be allowed to own land in Zimbabwe, and that any white farmers still left will be kicked out, raised eyebrows at home and abroad. Now those comments by the long-ruling autocrat are bringing a backlash in Zimbabwe’s beleaguered trade and tourism ministries. One Harare business newspaper calls them “not just racist but also unconstitutional, retrogressive, and detrimental.” As the Monitor reported July 3, Mr. Mugabe visited a small farming community 120 miles from the capital Harare that was handing out land permits.
