Bill Cosby: Natural gas pipeline

BOSTON — Comedian Bill Cosby and his wife Camille are supporting protesters marching across Massachusetts in opposition to Kinder Morgan’s proposed natural gas pipeline. The couple, who own hundreds of acres of protected land in Shelburne Falls, about 100 miles west of Boston, have been opposed to the pipeline since the company notified them last winter of plans to survey their land. Through a spokesman, the couple said it was “astounding” that New England’s six governors support the proposal, which they said shows “disrespect for humans, flora and fauna.” Supporters of the $3.75 billion Northeast Pipeline Extension Project say it will provide

There are probably at least three factors that are contributing to the current influx of unaccompanied minors at the border. Let´s consider them using some charts on the basic data. Before we get started on the factors, let´s note that everyone agrees the number of minors at the border has been roughly doubling every year since about 2011. This helpful chart comes from this report. It´s also important to note that this surge is not coming from Mexico but from countries in Central America. These are FY13 figures, the last complete year, but reports indicate FY14 figures are probably very

On Friday’s broadcast of PBS’s “NewsHour” New York Times columnist David Brooks and Creators Syndicate columnist Mark Shields took on the House Speaker John Boehner’s lawsuit against the Obama administration, which alleges oversteps in executive authority by the Obama White House. Both acknowledged Boehner’s gripe with the Obama administration had merit, but were skeptical of the lawsuit’s chances. However, they both also took on the alternative offered by former Gov. Sarah Palin (R-AK), which was to impeach President Barack Obama. Both dismissed that course of action as well, with Brooks calling it “cloud cuckoo land.” Partial transcript as follows: WOODRUFF: So the Highway Trust

Las Vegas — I’m writing this column at the Freedomfest Conference, a gathering attended by 2,000 leading movers and shakers of the conservative/libertarian movement. The theme is limiting the power of Big Brother in Washington. The big topic of discussion: Is government so unwieldy and is Congress so broken that the only way to limit government is to change the Constitution? A big faction has concluded: This is our best and maybe only hope. The instigator of the idea is John Aglialoro, a successful businessman who has long been a major funder of free-market causes (he was the financier behind

At the National Governors Association meeting on Friday in Tennessee, Maryland Democrat Governor Martin O´Malley said the illegal immigrant children who are flooding across the border are "refugees" who should not be sent back to be killed in their home countries. “It is contrary to everything we stand for to try to summarily send children back to death," he said, according to TIME. O´Malley reportedly also said that he could "only imagine, as a father of four, the heartbreak that those parents must have felt in sending their children across a desert where they can be muled and trafficked or

Murrieta - Murrieta Border Patrol agents have begun using online communication services, including Skype, to continue to process illegal aliens held in Texas detention centers. Border Patrol sources told KFI Radio´s Steven Gregory that Murrieta agents can process up to 25 people per shift, depending on the amount of staff in the Texas facilities. It is not immediately known if the station´s shift in processing practices can be attributed to the protesters outside the Murrieta Border Patrol Station, who have succeeded in rerouting three rounds of buses full of illegal aliens to other facilities. On Thursday, illegal aliens, all of them women and children,

Only if we understand that Wednesday was "Opposite Day" can we comprehend President Obama´s bizarre remarks in Texas concerning our border crisis. He said he had asked Gov. Rick Perry, "Are [members of Congress] more interested in politics, or are they more interested in solving the problem? ... If the preference is for politics, then it won´t be solved." Everything Obama does is about politics. If he weren´t endlessly raising money for his hyper-partisan Democratic Party, he wouldn´t have even bothered to fly to Texas in the first place. His entire approach to the immigration issue is to fast-track as many illegals

The Department of Homeland Security has asked Catholic churches in California to temporarily house and feed groups of Central American migrants until 2016, according to an official at the diocese of San Bernardino. But any unpaid cooperation is legally questionable, because it may be intended to bypass Congress’ authority to fund — or to not fund — federal agencies’ new practice of distributing the flood of migrant families to homes across the country. The department “has reached out to the diocese and the bishop, and asked us to shelter families in transition,” Maria Christina Mendez, at the Office of Hispanic Affairs, told

Whatever happened to the Obama administration’s guiding principle never to let a serious crisis go to waste? Ex-White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel pronounced this shockingly brazen political principle before a group of Wall Street executives in November 2008. He said this even before President Obama took office. It was after that historic election, a time when the president was riding high on a wave of good will and political euphoria that few American politicians have ever enjoyed. It was also a time when the president’s party controlled both chambers of Congress and could have approved just about any

Two prominent Las Vegas attorneys signed onto a class-action lawsuit to represent plaintiffs suing the state and software builder Xerox for negligence with the Nevada´s health care exchange. (Snip) The suit claims that Nevada and Xerox knew there would be payment problems with the Silver State Exchange's online software and accepted consumers’ money without warning them of the risks. Xerox told the Las Vegas Sun in June that it was “not at liberty” to disclose how many consumers paid premiums without receiving a plan. Exchange officials said they do not know the number.

Have you ever gone on a couple dates with someone, but then decided it just wasn’t going work out? It’s a tough spot to be in, especially when you know they are totally into you and you have to be the one to call it off. Chattanooga was in that position in February of this year with the United Auto Workers (UAW). Ever since Volkswagen opened its American manufacturing headquarters in Chattanooga in 2011, the UAW has been the city’s heavy-breathing suitor. Give them this: the union has been very persistent. Caving to their determination, Volkswagen finally agreed to go on

The US government has been pushing the idea of home solar panels for quite a while now, giving the industry a significant, additional nudge when the current federal subsidy program was generously expanded in 2008. The idea behind this was that if homeowners wanted to save some money on their energy bill by using solar power, they could receive a 30% subsidy to help cover the costs. Sounds pretty sweet, eh? Well, when the government is giving away taxpayer cash, plenty of people will line up to get it… and it’s not always those who were intended to benefit. This

As I read this New York Times story – ‘Fertility Clinics Scan for the Strongest Embryo — about chromosomal testing of in-vitro fertilization embryos, I kept waiting for the counterpoint to the idea that scientists could help create a purer race. Finally, the opposition arose: Still, critics say, if the test is at all inaccurate, some good people might be thrown out or defective ones chosen. I’m sorry, the actual sentence said “good embryos might be thrown out.” I don’t know how I made that mistake. In any case, embryos get “thrown out” whether the test is administered or not.

I saw what happens to people when they lose their liberty. When I came home, I decided that it wasn’t enough for me to simply enjoy freedom and liberty. I had to do my part

Hi, everybody. This week, I spent some time in Colorado and Texas, talking with people about what’s going on in their lives. One was Elizabeth Cooper, a college junior this fall. She wrote to tell me something I hear often: how hard it is for middle-class families like hers to afford college. And she shared something I know many of you feel when you wonder what’s going on in Washington. She said she feels “not significant enough to be addressed, not poor enough for people to worry [about], and not rich enough to be cared about.” I ran for President to fight for Americans just like Elizabeth — people who work hard, do everything right,
