A militia has set up a command center south of San Antonio to prepare for what they say is a mission to protect the United States from the influx of illegal immigrants. The militia, operating via the website PatriotsInformationHotline.com, founded by Barbie Rogers, said members at the command center in Von Ormy will deploy to Laredo first and spread to other parts of the border, a local ABC affiliate reported. Chris Davis, the 37-year-old commander of the group, would not disclose how many members make up the militia, but said the troops would deploy “in a few weeks.” “We have patriots all across this country who are willing to sacrifice their

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has hired an environmental nutrition consultant to oversee its Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee, which has already faced criticism for introducing climate change into nutrition policy. Angela Tagtow was named executive director of the USDA’s Center for Nutrition Policy and Promotion, which oversees the committee in charge of creating new federal nutrition standards. A “good food” activist, Tagtow founded Environmental Nutrition Solutions, whose mission is to change the food system by making it more “sustainable, ecologically sound, [and] socially acceptable.” She formerly was the endowed chair for the Minnesota Institute for Sustainable Agriculture. As Ron Burgundy might say, that escalated quickly. Rep. Steve Stockman @SteveWorks4You Follow We just filed a resolution directing the Sergeant-At-Arms to arrest Lois Lerner for contempt. Statement coming in minutes. #IRSscandal Lerner has come under renewed scrutiny this week on two fronts. Emails show that she was aware of a key email that later went “missing.” More importantly, other released emails show that she sought to hide information from Congress as it was investigating the IRS targeting of Tea Party groups. The House has the power to arrest and jail on charges of contempt. Update: Rep. Stockman has

Elijah Cummings: The Democrats´ first

There is no better manifestation of the rancorous partisan gridlock that has gripped Congress in recent years than the parties´ proxy war between Reps. Elijah Cummings and Darrell Issa. Issa, 60, is the firebrand Republican chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee. He has hammered the Obama administration over its handling of the Benghazi attacks, the IRS and Veterans Affairs scandals, as well the troubled rollout of its heathcare.gov website and a host of other hot-button issues. It has been up to Cummings, 63, the panel’s top Democrat, to be the first line of defense for the administration

Rep. John Campbell (R-Calif.) called the government, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) “the police state” at a Financial Services Committee hearing at the Capitol on Thursday. At the July 10 hearing, Legislation to Reform the Federal Reserve on Its 100-year Anniversary, the Federal Reserve Accountability and Transparency Act (HR 5018) was discussed, legislation which would require “the Federal Reserve to provide the Congress with a clear rule to describe the course of monetary policy.” The act would also require the Fed to conduct cost-benefit analysis, require transparency on

At a press conference Thursday, Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) said people with religious beliefs who disagree with the ObamaCare contraception mandate can choose their faith or “you don’t have to form a corporation.” “You’re born with a religion or you adopt a religion. You have to obey the precepts of that religion and the government gives you a wide penumbra – you don’t have to form a corporation,” Schumer said. Schumer claims the Supreme Court’s decision that closely-held firms have a right to deny coverage for certain types of birth control they find objectionable under the Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA) was

President Obama was absolutely swamped the other night, staving off the munchies at a pizza party in the Mile High city, hobnobbing as headliner at numerous Democrat shindigs, collecting big bucks from big donors all day. Whew. Exhausting. Especially exhausting must be trying to change pace and pivot through the fundraising parties, knowing they’re thrown by those much maligned “fat cats” (Obama’s words, not mine). The president conveniently disparages these fat cats in public, but in private their group hugs are a whole lot of cuddlin,’ purrin’ and rolling over for more tummy tickling from the one who feeds them.

Dinesh D’Souza, the man behind the controversial new documentary America, jumped into the lion’s den today with an appearance on MSNBC, facing off against Ed Show guest host Michael Eric Dyson and panelists Eric Boehlert and Zerlina Maxwell over slavery, America’s comparative ills in world history, and whether President Obama is a dangerous “radical.” D’Souza contended that people exaggerate past sins like taking land from Native Americans and slavery. Dyson challenged him on slavery, arguing it was worse (to a degree) when America did it because there was actually religious justification being trotted out. D’Souza pointed out there were free black

Elliott Abrams, writing for the Council on Foreign Relations: Israel is under attack by the terrorist group Hamas. Hundreds of rockets have fallen on its cities and towns. Millions of Israelis run, and must pull their children, into shelters each day. Prime Minister Netanyahu has discussed this with French president Hollande and with German chancellor Merkel. But not with President Obama, who has not seen fit to call Netanyahu or take a call from him. This is quite amazing behavior for an ally. I am aware as all readers are that the two men have a difficult relationship, but that is no justification.

The headline in the New York Times over the weekend was straightforward: “Unease in G.O.P. Over Mississippi Tea Party Anger”: The stormy aftermath of Mississippi’s Republican Senate runoff has sent Tea Party conservatives around the country to the ramparts, raising the prospect of a prolonged battle that holds the potential to depress conservative turnout in November in Mississippi — and possibly beyond. Well, there’s an understatement. Just last night Texas Senator Ted Cruz was on Mark Levin´s show talking about “the D.C. machine” running “false attacks” that were “racially charged” and demanding that allegations of criminal conduct — one man reportedly told

Environmental Protection Agency regulations banning the use of the chemical methyl bromide since 2005 are threatening peach orchards in Louisiana, Watchdog reports. Joe Mitchin’s family-owned business of peach orchards in northern Louisiana is slowly dying off. Orchard owners traditionally use methyl bromide to treat diseased peach trees, but owing to the advent of EPA regulations in 2005, Mitchin has been unable to treat his orchard, leading to a steady decline in production. The destruction of peach trees has forced Mitchin to downsize his company, laying off 40 employees, according to Watchdog. Business expenses are difficult to cover, and so the orchard, which

The effect on the congressional immigration debate after House Majority Leader Eric Cantor’s surprising primary loss should not be about whether to have reform, but whether that reform should be about increasing foreign labor or reducing it. Cantor represented the unanimous views of the leadership of both parties, which have only differed in how and how much to increase lifetime immigrants, guest workers and legalizations of unlawful foreign visitors. By stressing the opposite option — reductions in legal immigration — during his campaign against Cantor, victorious economics professor Dave Brat has suddenly given hope to the

Back in 2012, I shared a sadly amusing image about how the modern political process has degenerated into two wolves and a sheep voting what to have for lunch. I was making an argument in that column against majoritarianism (and that is a critical issue, as explained in this video), but there’s also a very mportant moral component to this debate. Walter Williams addresses this issue in his latest column. He starts by asking a hypothetical question. Suppose I saw a homeless, hungry elderly woman huddled on a heating grate in the dead of winter. To help the woman, I ask somebody for

Washington - President Barack Obama is telling Israel´s leader that the United States is willing to negotiate a cease-fire between Israel and Hamas. Obama spoke with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Thursday, as Israel was intensifying an bombardment of the Gaza Strip in an attempt to thwart rocket fire targeting Israel. The White House says Obama condemned the rockets and said Israel has the right to self-defense. But Obama also urged both sides not to escalate the crisis and to restore calm. Obama also relayed concerns about a Palestinian-American teenager who was detained and apparently beaten by Israeli authorities.

House Speaker John Boehner´s lawsuit against President Barack Obama will focus on Obama´s 2013 decision to unilaterally delay implementation of the so-called employer mandate of the Affordable Care Act. House Republicans are getting more traction with that idea than impeaching the president himself. enator Ted Cruz (R., Texas) and a group of House lawmakers are building a case for impeaching Attorney General Eric Holder. (snip) Gosar says the process should begin with the House taking a vote of no confidence in Holder, before the August recess (141 lawmakers have co-sponsored his no-confidence resolution). If, as is nearly certain, Obama were to ignore such a no-confidence vote and refuse to remove Holder during the August recess, then impeachment proceedings would begin in September, according to Gosar’s plan.
