Although I almost never vote, when I do make an exception I use three criteria: First, and most obviously, I must either have an especially strong ideological affinity with a candidate or a particularly deep loathing for the challenger. Second, the candidate must (appear) less corrupt than his or her challenger. Third—and this is important—the candidate must be a lot more successful than I am. (Snip)But the problem with Hillary isn’t that she’s wealthy. It’s not even that she became wealthy asking for exorbitant fees while most Americans were living through a brutal recession. Nor is it that, for the

Pastors and churches have been banned from helping the thousands of illegal immigrant children housed in border detention facilities run by U.S. Customs and Border Protection, clergy in Texas and Arizona tell me. “Border Patrol told us pastors and churches are not allowed to visit,” said Kyle Coffin, the pastor of CrossRoads Church in Tucson, Arizona. “It’s pretty heartbreaking that they don’t let anybody in there -- even credentialed pastors.” A public affairs officer for the Border Patrol confirmed that ministers and church groups have been banned from the Nogales Placement Center. “Due to the unique operational and security challenges of

Militants in Iraq have taken hold of nuclear materials at university science facilities near the northern city of Mosul, the Iraqi government has said in a letter to the United Nations. But two U.S. officials told CNN on Wednesday that the small amounts of uranium aren´t enriched or weapons-grade, prompting only minimal concern. The letter from Iraq´s U.N. ambassador about the uranium compounds asks for help "to stave off the threat of their use by terrorists in Iraq or abroad" as the country struggles with a deadly insurgency. In the letter, obtained Wednesday by CNN, Iraqi Ambassador Mohamed Ali Alhakim

AUSTIN, Texas -- Faced with a potentially awkward scene at the Texas-Mexico border, President Barack Obama sought to recast the political debate over a flood of young migrants as a question of Republican willingness to tackle the problem, not his decision to skip a chance to view the crisis first-hand. Obama turned to one of his chief critics, Texas´ Republican Gov. Rick Perry, to try to make his point.(Snip)Perry, in his own statement following the meeting, made no promises to help Obama shore up GOP support for the supplemental spending package and instead doubled down on the notion that the

Mr. Buckey declined to elaborate on the cause of the shutdown, but a letter provided to The Blade that appears to have been sent by Mr. Buckey to employees on July 2 said the company is closing and makes no reference to any potential reopening. “Unfortunately, payments that were committed to

(Video) Texas Gov. Rick Perry said Wednesday on “Hannity” that President Obama needs to act now to stop the surge in illegal immigrants flooding across his state’s border, calling it “a humanitarian crisis that he has the ability to stop.” The Republican governor spoke out after meeting with Obama in Texas Wednesday afternoon. Both sides called the meeting “constructive” and said they agreed philosophically. However, Perry said he is concerned that Obama did not indicate he will take the immediate action he requested: to use his power as commander-in-chief to send the National Guard to secure the border. “You know,

Happy 158th birthday, Nikola Tesla. The anniversary of the Serbian-American inventor´s birth will be celebrated Thursday with cake and a flag-raising ceremony at his former laboratory in Shoreham, followed by discussions of his work at Shoreham-Wading River High School. Both events are free. Tesla, who was born July 10, 1856, in Croatia, has been credited with developing wireless technologies and devising some of the major components used in modern radio and electricity. Tesla achieved local fame in the early 20th century when he worked for about 12 years in a Shoreham lab called Wardenclyffe, at Route 25A and Randall Road.

Washington Post columnist Jackson Diehl recently observed, “The Obama administration has developed a bad habit of founding its Middle East strategies on wishful thinking.” “Wishful thinking” is kind. Delusions of grandeur from the man who promised he had the power to make oceans recede, the authority to bring prosperity and equality to all, and the unique ability to cause peace the world over is more accurate. And so it is that Obama took to the pages of Ha’aretz, Israel’s equivalent of the New York Times (if not worse) in its left-leaning, progressive ideology and penned an article titled “Peace is the

Some (including some Democrats) are saying that the crisis on the Southwestern border is President Obama’s Hurricane Katrina. But there are at least two fundamental differences between the illegal immigration fiasco and Katrina. First, the response to Hurricane Katrina was actually the largest and the fastest response to any natural disaster in history, as Popular Mechanics, as I recall, later documented. Second, President Bush didn’t cause the hurricane. The current disaster is entirely attributable to Barack Obama’s willful refusal to enforce the immigration laws, in violation of his oath of office. Is Obama’s subversion of the nation’s laws an impeachable offense?

So, how did President Obama´s meeting with Republican Governor Rick Perry go today? In a statement on Wednesday, Obama described the meeting as "constructive," but, well, this photo also exists. It´s not immediately clear what the context of this photo was — Is Perry sad? Uncomfortable? Telling a funny story? Happy, but trying to look serious? Hmm. Perhaps someone made a joke at Perry´s expense? Or maybe Perry just makes the Robert De Niro shrug face a lot for no reason. Anyway, it doesn´t matter right now. Until we know more about the context, the photo will be a Rorschach

Texas Gov. Rick Perry greeted President Obama when he arrived in Texas today for two fundraisers. As I discussed here, Perry originally said he would not greet the president, proposing instead a meeting to discuss the illegal immigration crisis at the Texas border (and elsewhere). In the end, the two reached a compromise. Obama invited Perry to a roundtable discussion on immigration and reportedly agreed to a one-on-one meeting. Perry greeted him at the airport. By contrast, Colorado Sen. Mark Udall reportedly was nowhere to be found when Obama visited Colorado for a fundraiser on Udall’s behalf. According to ABC

While visiting the state,Mr Obama said he had no "philosophical objection" to increasing the number of border patrol agents and repositioning them. But Mr Obama said the such action was held up by Congress´ delay in approving his request for extra funding. The White House asked for $3.7bn (£2.2bn) in extra funding on Tuesday. "Congress has the capacity to work with all parties concerned to directly address this situation," Mr Obama told reporters.

Robert Redford has signed on to play Dan Rather in Truth, a film based on the 2005 memoir Truth and Duty: The Press, the President, and the Privilege of Power. The book, written by Rather´s producer Mary Mapes, centers on the firestorm that erupted in September of 2004 after Rather reported that George W. Bush had received special treatment while serving in the Air National Guard during the Vietnam War, a report that was based on documents that turned out to be forgeries.

Addressing the press Wednesday after meeting with Texas Governor Rick Perry to discuss the border crisis in Dallas, Obama, when asked if programs like DACA have caused or contributed to the crisis,

After another bloody weekend in Chicago, Mayor Rahm Emanuel branded the shootings unacceptable and the city’s top cop demanded more gun control laws. Chicago’s murder rate has actually dropped since concealed carry became legal. Emanuel’s lawsuits over his illegal gun control laws have left the already struggling city deep in the hole and forced to cover the NRA’s million dollars in legal bills. Concealed carry paid off over the bloody weekend when a vet carrying a gun returned fire stopping a massacre before it happened. The original shooter ended up in the hospital, but nobody ended up in the morgue, which

For once, I have to agree with the White House. They’re right to deny that the debacle along the border with Mexico is President Obama’s Hurricane Katrina moment. It’s actually much worse. White House Domestic Policy Council Director Cecilia Muñoz said it wasn’t fair to compare the debacle along the border with Mexico to Hurricane Katrina. She’s right about that. The Katrina analogy has been mooted by a number of conservative writers but got some extra juice this week when Democrat Rep.
