Lawyer: Lerner may have

The lawyer for ex-IRS official Lois Lerner on Wednesday walked back comments about whether she followed record-keeping laws and printed out official emails, saying she did make “some” such back-ups. William Taylor III of Zuckerman Spaeder late last month told POLITICO that Lerner, the former head of the tax exempt division that singled out tea party groups, did not print off and file her official emails because she didn’t know she had to. He later followed up with an email, writing: “Did she print out official records and file them[?] Answer. No, and she did not think it was required.”

Obama to set off bomb

Now that Republicans have made it clear that they will not participate on any level in basic problem solving when it comes to our immigration crisis, it is now on Obama to determine just how far he can go unilaterally, particularly when it comes to easing the pace of deportations. This is going to be one of the most consequential decisions of his presidency in substantive, moral, and legal terms, and politically, it could set off a bomb this fall, in the middle of the midterm elections. I’m told there are currently internal discussions underway among Democrats over whether ambitious

Email incriminates Lerner in scheme to evade Congressional oversight. Darrell Issa has tweeted out an email exchange involving Lois Lerner in April 2013, in which she attempts to scope out what email records get retained, and cautions that because Congress may seek emails, “we need to be cautious about what we say in emails”. (snip) This evidences a consciousness of guilt, even if somewhat after the fact of the harassment of conservative groups. She’s also not the brightest bulb in the theater — if you are worried about saying incriminating things in emails because Congress may discover the emails, don’t

Obama, on Texas Trip, Will

DENVER — President Obama is traveling to Texas on Wednesday and will come face-to-face with liberal and conservative critics of his government’s handling of a humanitarian crisis on the southern border, including Gov. Rick Perry. Just a day after Mr. Obama asked Congress for nearly $4 billion to address the influx of unaccompanied children, aides continue to say the president will not travel the extra distance to the Texas-Mexico border to see the detention centers where thousands of Central American immigrants have been held. He will, however, attend a previously planned immigration meeting in Dallas, as well as Democratic fund-raisers

A poll conducted by the Wall Street Journal, NBC News, and Annenberg finally gave a numerical answer to a question we at Mediaite often ask ourselves: Out of all political figures that should pipe down just a bit, which one should do it immediately? Answer: Sarah Palin. Overwhelmingly Sarah Palin, says America. 52% of surveyed American adults want Sarah Palin to “be quiet,” according to the poll taken between June 30 and July 7 (Snip) 45% of respondents added that they wanted Jesse Jackson to be quiet, too; followed by Dick Cheney (42%), Newt Gingrich (39%), Al Gore (37%), and

President Barack Obama is self-righteously grumbling that, having been stymied by Republicans in Congress, he’ll enact immigration reform on his own by voice vote in the West Wing. That is, via executive decree — his go-to method of governing given his crushing lack of success on Capitol Hill. But Obama’s promised executive actions will likely entomb immigration reform, which is already dead for the year, in the great sarcophagus of permanently missed opportunities that houses much of whatever it is Obama wanted to do or should have achieved. The demise of his immigration agenda was predictable because it was killed

Indianapolis - Indiana Gov. Mike Pence´s office is telling state agencies act as if no gay marriages had been performed during three days following a federal court order. The memo from the governor´s chief counsel tells executive branch agencies to execute their functions as though the June 25 court order had not been issued. A federal judge in Indianapolis struck down the state´s gay marriage ban as unconstitutional that day, leading to hundreds of same-sex marriages around the state. But an appeals court stayed that ruling three days later after an appeal from the state attorney general´s office.

Utah is going straight to the U.S. Supreme Court to appeal a federal appeals court´s ruling that gay couples have a constitutional right to marry, the state attorney general´s office announced Wednesday. The state opted to challenge the decision with the nation´s highest court rather than request a review from the entire 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Denver. That option is now off the table, no matter what the high court decides. Utah Attorney General Sean Reyes´ office said in a statement the appeal will be filed in the coming weeks. Brazilians cried, cursed their president and covered their faces in shame after their beloved football team´s humiliating 7-1 thrashing by Germany in the World Cup semi-finals Tuesday. President Dilma Rousseff twitted how sad she was with defeat but called on Brazilians “we won´t let ourselves stay down”. After the fifth goal, well before half-time, hundreds of people left their expensive seats at the stadium in the southeastern city of Belo Horizonte. President Obama has an opportunity to do two big things: help resolve the ongoing crisis at the border, and put us on a path to immigration reform. Unfortunately, he doesn’t seem interested in either. Today the president is in Texas, where he turned down an invitation from Gov. Rick Perry to tour the border for himself so he might see the crisis firsthand. Not interested, the president told the governor. Instead, he’ll spend his time .?.?. fund-raising. Obama’s visit to Texas comes just after he asked Congress for $3.8 billion in emergency spending. The money is meant to address the chaos at the

This might have been the best meal served on a plane. A Frontier Airlines pilot treated passengers to a pizza party on Monday after their flight was experiencing a dreadful delay and had run out of food. Stranded on the runway for nearly two hours, passengers were apparently growing hungry, and one of the pilots knew he had to act fast. Traveling from Washington, D.C., to Denver, the plane had been diverted to Cheyenne, Wyoming, due to a series of storms in the area, CNN reports. After realizing that the plane’s food supplies had been completely depleted, the pilot made the decision to

Under the Obama administration, embassy construction costs have exploded even while security – a major issue in the Benghazi scandal – has grown worse. Now we know why. A video released by the State Department in 2012 shows exhibits the philosophy behind a campaign begun under former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to build fancy buildings overseas to enhance the nation´s reputation. The video opens with a narrator explaining the “universally understood language of diplomacy” including “art, design and architecture” that “communicate our ideals...without speaking a word.” From there, a series of high-profile architects use embarrassingly flowery language to explain

Operation Protective Edge may look like its predecessors--Operation Cast Lead in 2008-9 and Operation Pillar of Defense in 2012--in that it is a response to Palestinian terrorism launched from Gaza against Israeli civilians. The previous two rounds of the conflict ended with Hamas still in power in the Gaza Strip, weakened but able to re-arm over time and to project a strategic threat. There are five reasons, however, this time may be different. 1. By Attacking Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, Hamas Has Invited Its Own Destruction. By launching its Iranian-and Syrian-made missiles against Israel´s two major cities--especially Tel Aviv, normally

ObamaCare regulations compel doctors and their office staff, restaurateurs, business owners, local government officials and virtually everyone subject to the law to spend hours filling out paperwork without getting paid for it. It´s a colossal theft. As of 2014, ObamaCare regulations impose 159 million hours of paperwork a year on the public, up 48 million
