Jimmy Carter in Russia

You’ll have a hard time finding any mention of it in the left-wing mainstream media, but last Saturday former U.S. President James Earl Carter flew into the northern Russian city of Murmansk on a Gulfstream private jet for a little luxury fishing expedition (Russian-language link). It seems Mr. Carter would like to do all he can to legitimize Russian aggression in Ukraine, and if he can combine doing so with a gold-plated vacay, so much the better. At almost the same moment, Ukrainian government troops were triumphantly raising the national flag over City Hall in the Eastern Ukraine city of Slaviansk,

The Town Where Immigrants

MURRIETA, Calif. — Suddenly, this city in the desert has become the place that turned away the immigrants. When the three busloads of immigrant mothers and children rolled into town for processing at a Border Patrol station this week, they were met by protesters carrying American flags and signs proclaiming “return to sender” as they screamed “go home” and chanted “U.S.A.” Fearing for the safety of the migrants and federal officers, immigration officials decided to reroute the buses to San Diego, an hour south. And a day after many here celebrated what they saw as a temporary victory, more than a thousand

Why This Bird Could Decide

An obscure, chicken-sized bird best known for its mating dance could help determine whether Democrats or Republicans control the U.S. Senate in November. The federal government is considering listing the greater sage grouse as an endangered species next year. Doing so could limit development, energy exploration, hunting and ranching on the 165 million acres of the bird´s habitat across 11 Western states. Apart from the potential economic disruption, which some officials in Western states discuss in tones usually reserved for natural disasters, the specter of the bird´s listing is reviving the centuries-old debates about local vs. federal control and whether

My fellow Americans, we are all bit players in the making of a metaphoric slasher movie: Obama Unchained, starring Barack Hussein Obama. Here is a summary of the movie. It is a heartwarming tale about how the mainstream media and Democratic Party suckered America into electing their extreme far-left dream president – a Trojan Horse in the form of a black man.

Muslims have the Taj Mahal and Mecca. Catholics have St. Peter’s Cathedral and the Vatican. Jews have a wall. The Western Wall is a stack of massive stone blocks a few dozen feet high and a couple of hundred feet long. It’s all that’s left of Jerusalem’s second Jewish temple, a structure that astonished even the Romans. The Romans destroyed it to punish the Jews for their Great Revolt in 70 A.D. That wasn’t the first time. It’s called the “second” temple because it replaced Solomon’s temple, which had been destroyed by the Babylonians six centuries earlier. For millennia, this

A Fourth of July parade float that depicted a figure standing outside an outhouse labeled the “Obama Presidential Library” has created a stir on social media and is also receiving criticism in Norfolk, Nebraska. (Snip) Neither the float nor the pickup identified a sponsor; a sign in the windshield said it was entry No. 29. Liz Guthrie of Pierce, Nebraska, took a photo of the float that has been widely circulated on social media and shared about 1,000 times on Facebook. From where she watched the parade, Guthrie said she could hear the crowd laughing and clapping as the float

GREENVILLE--Former state treasurer Thomas Ravenel, who resigned from office after his arrest on drug charges, said he is running as an independent for the U.S. Senate currently held by Lindsey Graham in South Carolina. Ravenel announced his intention Friday at an Independence Day rally in Greenville. He still must deliver 10,000 signatures from registered voters to state election officials by July 15 to get on the ballot. Ravenel wants to reduce the size of government and give people more personal freedom. He says the U.S. needs a better foreign policy. Ravenel said he knows the 10 months he served in

Kabul — Col. Samuel Whitehurst had been consumed with work in the last days of his brigade’s nine-month deployment in eastern Afghanistan when alarming news about his former battleground in northern Iraq began to reach him. Whitehurst fired off an e-mail to the mayor of the Iraqi city of Samarra, who had become a close friend, saying he was thinking of him. Days after a band of Islamic militants took over Mosul and several towns in the north in early June, he got terrible news: Col. Gayath Sami, the Iraqi officer Whitehurst had groomed to run Samarra’s security command center,

Huge swathes of Helmand Province, the area of Afghanistan where hundreds of British soldiers were killed in eight years of bloody fighting, are once again in the hands of the Taliban, The Mail on Sunday can reveal. The districts of Now Zad, Musa Qala and Sangin have been overrun by insurgents after British troops withdrew to the security of Camp Bastion--the last remaining UK base in the province. The return of the Taliban to hundreds of square miles of territory which was previously liberated by British soldiers makes a mockery of Prime Minister David Cameron’s declaration of ‘mission accomplished’ in

Moviegoers heading to Dinesh D’Souza’s America over the July 4 weekend probably aren’t expecting much star power, so they might be surprised when celebrities like Bono, Matt Damon and Woody Harrelson pop up on screen. While President Obama, Chris Matthews and Al Sharpton -- as well as Hillary Clinton -- are portrayed as disciples of Saul Alinsky, the movie also indicts Damon and Harrelson as members of the left who actively undermine the idea of “American exceptionalism” through their work and their status as celebrities. "It´s fun to make our points through illustrations using recognizable figures from popular culture. We

Twenty Roma parents and other family members who sent their own children on to the streets of Paris to rob holidaymakers were beginning prison sentences of up to eight years each yesterday. British visitors were among the hundreds of tourists targeted each day around the Louvre, Notre Dame and the Eiffel Tower by some 40 youngsters. There were disturbances in the court late on Friday afternoon when the tough sentences were handed down. The heaviest went to women--including mothers--involved in the crime network. The senior judge of three involved in the case, Dominique Piot, said: ‘Each minor had to steal

After apparently becoming incensed with a CNN anchor, Joan Rivers cut short a taped nationally televised interview. The Fashion Police personality walked off of a CNN Newsroom interview with host Fredricka Whitfield after the conversation turned to her boundaries when telling jokes. "This whole interview is becoming a defensive interview," Rivers said, also protesting that Whitfield´s line of questioning was mainly "negative." "You are not the one to interview a person who does humor, sorry," she added, before walking off the set. Whitfield later stated that she at first wondered if Rivers walking out of the interview was a stunt.

Deceitful. That is the best way to describe a Los Angeles Times report about five protesters arrested yesterday in Murrieta, CA. Nowhere in the story are the identities of the protestors indicated; whether they are pro-amnesty or against the dumping of the illegals in a federal facility in their city. Although the truth is very carefully avoided in the Los Angeles Times, you can find it right way in the headline at the Gateway Pundit: "FIVE COUNTER-PROTESTERS ARRESTED During Tense Standoff at Murrieta Illegal Immigrant Rally." The co-conspirators in the Los Angeles Times attempt to keep its readers from learning

As a poll of American voters ranks Barack Obama as the worst president of all time, Matt Lewis says his presidency has been a disastrous flop - talented and much-hyped but ultimately unsatisfying. The trailers were great, but the movie was horrible. Six years in, that´s the general consensus on the Obama presidency. Having ridden a wave of "hope and change" to the White House, President Barack Obama has failed to deliver on his huge box office, err, ballot box expectations. Just how bad is it? Since it is summer "blockbuster" season, I´ll explain thusly: There´s a difference between being bad

In an interview that aired on Kansas City’s KCMO 710 AM/103.7 FM last week, Sen. On the topic of his residency, which has been subject of controversy, Roberts insisted he was a resident of Kansas and downplayed the importance of actually being in Kansas in order to properly represent

Recycling is authoritarian, demeaning and an unutterable waste of time, energy and money. No surprise, then, that the European Union is planning to force its vassal states to do much, much more of it. Last week, the European Commission proposed its most draconian waste disposal legislation yet: a plan requiring 70 percent of all municipal waste and 80 percent of packaging waste to be recycled by 2030; a total ban of the landfill of recyclable waste by 2025, aiming "to virtually eliminate landfill" by 2030. As even the Guardian quietly concedes, this is an impossible ambition:

The levels of Antarctic sea-ice last week hit an all-time high – confounding climate change computer models which say it should be in decline. America’s National Snow And Ice Data Center, which is funded by Nasa, revealed that ice around the southern continent covers about 16million sq km, more than 2.1?million more than is usual for the time of year. It is by far the highest level since satellite observations on which the figures depend began in 1979. In statistical terms, the extent of the ice cover is hugely significant. The Antarctic surge is so big that overall, although Arctic

The Ebola virus would be terrifying no matter where it struck: It’s a disease with no cure that causes headaches and fever, severe diarrhea, vomiting and bleeding and has been known to kill up to 90% of its victims. But in a corner of West Africa, where the disease took hold in recent months, traditional beliefs and superstitions have complicated efforts to prevent the illness. Some communities blame the disease´s emergence on those who have gone there to help — medical staff in alien-looking full-body protection suits and masks. Others do not believe the disease exists at all, but blame

In the darkest days of the last recession, few among those who had jobs were able, willing or bold enough to quit them. That is changing, however, according to a statistic called the national "quit rate," which some might call the "Take this job and shove it" index. The figure shows that the percentage of Americans who are jumping ship voluntarily is hovering at its highest levels in the four-year recovery. Many see the shift as a sign of optimism for an economy that has sputtered its way through an on-again, off-again rebound from the demoralizing downturn of 2008-´09. "The quit rate is

It´s probably safe to go back in the water. Despite a recent string of shark sightings off Manhattan Beach, including one that ended with a swimmer being hospitalized after he was bitten near the pier Saturday morning, reports of shark attacks are uncommon in the United States, records show. According to data tracked by the Florida Museum of Natural History, there were 39 reported shark attacks in California from 2001 to 2013, or 3.25 per year, and five of them resulted in fatalities. East Coast swimmers are much more likely to wind up the victims of a shark attack, according to the data.

Evil terror boss Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi came out of the shadows for the first time today – in a dramatic video in which he glorifies the slaughter of innocent people. The warlord whose jihadi militants are behind hundreds of brutal killings in Syria and Iraq delivered a chilling sermon to fanatics. His 15-minute rant was filmed at the grand mosque in the captured city of Mosul, northern Iraq. Surrounded by henchmen and rows of Kalashnikovs, al-Baghdadi’s eyes appeared lifeless. But his words were laced with hatred as he called on all Muslims to rise up and kill those who oppose

In 1776 Americans declared themselves independent of more than arbitrary rule by a distant monarch. They also severed the ties of aristocracy. This was in itself a revolutionary notion. It meant that political power, its attendant privilege and economic advantages would no longer be transferred by the blood. Earldoms, dukedoms, and kingdoms were banished from the territory and from the future of the American people. The citizen became the self-identifying unit of self-rule. The generation of English colonists who gathered together in the summer of 1776 to declare their independence from the English crown knew that they had exhausted all other remedies.
