China´s military is investing heavily in advanced submarines, including both ballistic and cruise missile firing vessels and attack subs. Recently, Beijing showed off what appears to be a mock-up of its next-generation nuclear-powered attack submarine, according to veteran military analyst Rick Fisher. “A large outdoor model of a next generation nuclear attack submarine [SSN] has appeared at the People’s Liberation Army Navy [PLAN] submarine academy in Qingdao, China,” Mr. Fisher stated in a report published by the International Assessment and Strategy Center, a think tank. “The role of this model may simply be to inspire the academy’s students, but it

The walls seem to be closing in on the Obama presidency. Iraq and Syria are overrun with terrorists. Violence is flaring in Ukraine and on Israel’s borders. A humanitarian crisis is developing on our own southern border, but immigration legislation, like most all legislation, is moribund. Probes of the veterans’ health-care system, the IRS and Benghazi are sucking up attention and the administration’s time. As President Obama fails to get any credit for the millions who have found jobs or gained health-care coverage on his watch, a nonpartisan Quinnipiac poll this week found that 33 percent of Americans consider him

RAF Flight Sergeant Sidney Marshall died last month aged 90 at his home in Lytham St Annes, near Blackpool. But he was a widower who had no children and seven of his eight siblings were too frail to attend. The only one who could was brother Bill, 85. Undertaker Eddy Jacobs was so touched by the story that he appealed for strangers to give Sidney a fitting farewell on social networking sites like Twitter. Hundreds responded, with well-wishers yesterday including veterans, schoolchildren and even Hell’s Angels sporting poppies and Union Flags. [Snip] “We were flabbergasted. There’s 500 people here. With much of Washington already gone for the holiday, the Supreme Court issued a short legal ruling Thursday with the potential to deepen the political backlash among Democrats that was sparked by the court’s earlier Hobby Lobby decision. The majority of the justices ruled that Wheaton College, a small evangelical school in Illinois, does not for now have to comply with the Obama administration’s requirement that it fill out a form to register religious objections to providing some types of contraceptive coverage mandated by the Affordable Care Act. The opinion said that until full arguments are heard by the court,

Authorities have arrested three women who have been secretly recruiting members for the female wing of the Islamist militant group Boko Haram, Nigeria´s Defense Ministry said Friday. "The arrested trio suspects were luring ladies, especially widows and young girls, by enticing them with male suitors who are mainly members of their terror group, for marriage," said Col. Onyema Nwachukwu, director of defense information. "Before their arrest, they were on a mission to take additional briefing from the leadership of the terror group," said Nwachukwu. After making fighting income inequality an early focus of his second term, President Obama has largely abandoned talk of the subject this election year in a move that highlights the emerging debate within the Democratic Party over economic populism and its limits. During the first half of this year, Obama shifted from income inequality to the more politically palatable theme of lifting the middle class, focusing on issues such as the minimum wage and the gender pay gap that are thought to resonate with a broader group of voters. The pivot is striking for a president who identified inequality as

President Obama renewed his call for immigration legislation at an Independence Day citizenship ceremony for service members, but once again signaled he would take action on his own if Congress doesn´t pass a bill. "I´m going to keep doing everything I can do to keep making our immigration system smarter and more efficient," Obama said. The president spoke at a White House naturalization ceremony on Friday for members of the U.S. military and their spouses. He touched on the hot-button immigration debate after, days earlier, vowing to proceed with executive actions in the absence of congressional legislation.

Washington - The Obama administration, reeling from back-to-back blows from the Supreme Court this week, is weighing options that would provide contraceptive coverage to thousands of women who are about to lose it or never had it because of their employers’ religious objections. (Snip) One proposal the White House is studying would put companies’ insurers or health plan administrators on the spot for contraceptive coverage, with details of reimbursement to be worked out later. Three Homeland Security buses arrived a few minutes later, trailed by numerous law enforcement vehicles. There is no information as to the buses´ destination. Earlier this week, federal officials said that 140 immigrants who had been detained crossing the border in Texas would arrive Friday. But since the blockade by protesters Tuesday at Murrieta, officials have declined to provide information about the movement of the immigrants.

Egypt will start raising petrol prices by up to 78% from midnight on Friday, an oil ministry source told Reuters, as it tries to cut energy subsidies to ease the burden on its swelling budget deficit. "The increase will start being implemented by midnight," the source said. Food and energy subsidies traditionally eat up a quarter of state spending and the government is taking steps to reform its subsidy programme and revive an economy that has been battered by more than three years of political turmoil. The source said the price of 92-octane petrol would be 2.60 Egyptian pounds (21p) a litre, up 40% from its current price of 1.85 pounds,

The left-wing online publication Vox finds the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in the Hobby Lobby case to be part of a “deeper trend” in a nation that has made an “unprecedented” turn to a pro-life stance. Writing at Vox, Sarah Kliff notes that, since 2010, “states have moved aggressively to restrict access to abortion and taken new steps to defund family planning programs. Advocates on both sides of the issue describe the wave of changes as unprecedented.” Also affirming the success of the pro-life movement is Elizabeth Nash of the pro-choice Guttmacher Institute. “Abortion access has changed dramatically,” said Nash,

Breitbart News obtained the above photograph, which shows a burnt flag on the ground, from an anti-illegal immigration activist who was monitoring the pro-amnesty demonstration. Opponents of illegal immigration had gathered in Murrieta to stop Friday´s planned transfer of Central American illegal aliens, as they did earlier this week. A pro-amnesty counter-demonstration was organized in response. President Obama has gone from “yes we can” to “so sue me.” The president’s standoffish remark this week about a Republican lawsuit was a reminder of how much Obama’s rhetoric has changed since his 2008 campaign and its promise to deliver a new kind of politics. These ten Obama quotations illustrate the transformation. 1. July 27, 2004: “There´s not a liberal America and a conservative America. There´s the United States of America.” Obama vaults onto the national stage with a call for unity at the Democratic National Convention in Boston. 2. Feb. 5, 2008: “We know that what began as

The documents come after recent comments made by former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton that some of the attackers may have been influenced by the online video. The court filings make clear those who organized the attack were part of a ´conspiracy´ involving several members of the Ansar al-Sharia ´Islamic extremist militia´, reports Fox News.
