Representative Luis Gutierrez (D-IL) appeared on Morning Joe Tuesday morning, castigating the House GOP for sabotaging immigration reform and arguing that President Barack Obama has the legal authority to effect limited reforms via executive action. “If [Republicans] want to come back and discuss this, fine,” Gutierrez said. “But in the interim period, I believe the President of the United States has, already in statute, in the law, the ability to heal and put in a safe harbor millions of undocumented immigrants while the Congress of the United States finally decides that it’s going to take action.” Gutierrez specified the ability

In an exclusive interview with CNN’s Nima Elbagir by phone, Mariam Ibrahim, the Sudanese Christian woman who initially faced a death sentence for refusing to renounce her faith, spoke about the ordeal she faced while jailed. Part of that ordeal involved child birth, which she explained presented challenges to her and to the health of the child. "I gave birth chained. Not cuffs but chains on my legs. I couldn´t open my legs so the women had to lift me off the table. I wasn´t attached to the table," she said. "I don´t know in the future whether she´ll need.

The White House pays out $37.8 million a year in salaries to 456 staffers, according to a new report to Congress released by the Obama administration. That averages to an annual salary of $82,844 per year, although staff salaries are top-heavy: the median salary is $70,700 per year. The list includes officials at the Domestic Policy Council and National Economic Council, along with White House employees. Some 22 senior administration officials, including Chief of Staff Denis McDonough and senior advisers Valerie Jarrett and John Podesta bring home the maximum $172,200 salary. New White House press secretary Josh Earnest is also among

President Obama faces a congressional deadline tomorrow to deliver a plan on dealing with the crisis in Syria, and there are no signs that the administration is going to meet it. A bipartisan resolution passed the Senate by unanimous consent on April 3 — introduced by Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Va.) and co-sponsored by lawmakers as diverse as Sens. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) and Ted Cruz (R-Texas) — “expressing the sense of the Senate concerning the humanitarian crisis in Syria and neighboring countries, resulting humanitarian and development challenges, and the urgent need for a political solution to the crisis.” The resolution noted that the

Believe me, I didn´t go looking in my Sunday morning TV viewing for more evidence of what a journalistically bankrupt operation NBC News had become. It´s fish in a barrel these days. Turn to NBC News for almost any given broadcast, and you´ll find more proof than you can use of how politicized and lost it has become. But when I heard David Gregory promoting an interview that Cynthia McFadden did with senior White House advisor Valerie Jarrett I had to watch. And then, I had to try not to gag as Gregory introduced it by saying, "Our Cynthia McFadden

WASHINGTON – Republicans see the November midterm elections as an opportunity to take the nation on a different path and call for a new conservative message focusing on the problems of regular Americans. During the latest convention of conservative activist Ralph Reed’s Faith and Freedom Coalition in Washington, D.C., Republicans confidently proclaimed that the GOP has an opportunity to turn back the past six years of President Obama’s administration in the midterm elections. “There’s only one thing to be done in 2014…and that is to take back America by taking back the Senate,” Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said

Mr. Gutierrez of Illinois said he never left the table when House Republicans demurred on an immediate path to citizenship or comprehensive approach to dealing with the millions of illegal immigrants in America. “Every time we said yes, they found a way to say no,” Mr. Gutierrez told MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.” House Speaker John A. CARSON CITY, Nev.— Nearly 49,000 Nevada residents have taken written tests since January to obtain state driver authorization cards, and just under 16,400 people have gotten the documents as of June 11, state Department of Motor Vehicles officials said Monday. The cards are available under a new law that made Nevada the 11th state to offer driving privileges to people in the country illegally. Backers say the cards allow immigrants to take a driving test, get insurance and drive legally. Almost 6,700 people have been given authorization card instruction permits, putting the number of people eligible to drive with motorist

The administration was found to be in violation of the 4th Amendment and privacy when it was discovered that the National Security Agency had been compiling metadata records for all telephone communications in the United States. 2. Obama was found in violation of separation of powers when he made unconstitutional recess appointments to the National Labor Relations Board. The Supreme

Though President Obama vowed to run the most transparent administration in history, his White House has quietly empowered itself to censor or delay the release of information in ways that not even Richard Nixon envisioned during the Watergate scandal, according to federal workers on the front lines of processing open records requests. The workers, who spoke to The Washington Times only on the condition of anonymity for fear of reprisal, said that an April 15, 2009, memo from White House Counsel Gregory Craig to all federal agencies has slowed, and in some cases nixed, the public release of government documents that

Mother Jones’s list of the “eight best lines” from her dissent seems to be pretty popular on the Left, judging from social media. They may indeed be her best lines, but they’re not very good. Others (such as Jonathan Keim) have already tackled some of them, but here they are in the same order MJ presents them. The general sense about the Hobby Lobby decision handed down yesterday, very much suggested by the majority opinion itself, is that the ruling is highly significant for the particular matter at hand (the fate of the HHS mandate) but of limited significance for larger and broader questions beyond. It seems to me, however, that roughly the opposite may be the case. (snip) And Justice Ginsburg’s attempt to distinguish between profit-seeking and non-profit corporations on this front, made necessary by the fact that the administration did recognize the religious-liberty claims of some corporations and not others in this case, was the

This Barack Obama is a real piece of work. As the nation´s alleged leader, he manufactures crises, like a good Alinsky Acolyte would. As the commander-in-chief of the United States, he ignores problems, allowing them to fester until they become serial crises that he then employs to distract a lazy media and public attention from other crises. It´s the M.O. of B.O.. And, folks, it doesn´t look to get any better in the 933 endless days left. Let us count the crises:

It´s going to be a little more difficult to ferret out which members of Congress are lavished with all-expenses-paid trips around the world after the House has quietly stripped away the requirement that such privately sponsored travel be included on lawmakers´ annual financial-disclosure forms. The move, made behind closed doors and without a public announcement by the House Ethics Committee, reverses more than three decades of precedent. Gifts of free travel to lawmakers have appeared on the yearly financial form dating back its creation in the late 1970s, after the Watergate scandal. If you’re an employer with more than 50 workers, you must comply with the employer mandate to offer health insurance starting Jan. 1, 2015 — unless you’re a medium-sized employer with 50 to 99 employees, in which case the mandate is delayed a year. To avoid penalties, you must offer coverage to full-time employees; that is, those who work at least 30 hours a week or 130 hours a month — but you can impose a 90-day waiting period before starting coverage. For seasonal workers, you can decide at the beginning of each month who among your workers will be
