CAIRO - A militant Islamist group has warned tourists to leave Egypt and threatened to attack any who stay after February 20, raising the prospect of a new front in a fast-growing insurgency in the biggest Arab nation. The Sinai-based Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis group, which claimed responsibility for a suicide bombing that killed two South Korean tourists and an Egyptian on Sunday, made the statement on an affiliated Twitter account. "We recommend tourists to get out safely before the expiry of the deadline," read the tweet, written in English

Congressional budget office: Minimum

WASHINGTON— Boosting the federal minimum wage as President Barack Obama and congressional Democrats are proposing would increase earnings for more than 16.5 million people by 2016 but also cut employment by roughly 500,000 jobs, Congress´ nonpartisan budget analyst said Tuesday. In a report containing ammunition for both supporters and opponents of the Democratic election-year proposal, the Congressional Budget Office said gradually raising the minimum from $7.25 hourly to $10.10 would lift 900,000 people above the federal poverty level by 2016. That is out of 45 million who would otherwise live in poverty without an increase. But the analysis also noted

Curtains make do as doors and lockers form walls of makeshift classrooms inside cramped, cash-strapped DeKalb Middle School in the wooded hills of the Upper Cumberland region. But there’s no way to jury-rig what the school really needs: Chromebook computers, updated software and bandwidth. Like all local school districts in Tennessee, DeKalb County schools are preparing for new computerized testing that aligns with Common Core academic standards, which have phased into the state’s classrooms in recent years. Right now, the 600 students at the county’s middle school — a 1970s “open-space” building in Smithville — take turns to use a

New Jersey is in a pickle as a rule of the high seas shuts off the flow of salt to keep roads clear. State officials are now being forced to turn to a briny pickle juice-like mixture as an alternative to de-ice the roads, while racing to get a federal waiver that is currently holding up a 40,000-ton shipment of rock salt. The salt is sitting at a port in Maine, docked until New Jersey officials obtain a federal waiver. Once that is done, it will take two days to ship the load from Maine to Newark. The shipment is

Connecticut Gun Owners

Did you know that quietly--very quietly thanks to a biased media--tens of thousands of American citizens delivered a message about the limits of government? Did you know that citizens of one state engaged in a mass act of civil disobedience that has left statist officials from both parties scratching their heads as an entire regulatory scheme collapsed? Last week, Connecticut politicians were shocked to find out that only a fraction of Connecticut gun owners obeyed a state directive to come forward, declare their weapons, and register them with the government. (snip) This is an important moment in the battle for fundamental

Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius told reporters on Monday that there is ´absolutely no evidence´ that the United States will lose jobs as a consequence of implementing the Affordable Care Act. But the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office declared on February 4 that the Obamacare law would suck the equivalent of 2.5 million full-time jobs out of the U.S. economy by 2024. ´There is absolutely no evidence, and every economist will tell you this, that there is any job loss related to the Affordable Care Act,´ Sebelius insisted Monday in Florida. ´Part-time positions are actually down since 2010, not up,´ she

Oslo- Fur has made a comeback on the world´s most important catwalks, fostering a thriving industry in the Nordic region to the dismay of animal rights activists. In the 1990s, supermodels like Claudia Schiffer, Cindy Crawford and Naomi Campbell posed in the buff for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) under the slogan "I´d Rather Go Naked Than Wear Fur" -- part of initiatives that helped make fur politically incorrect. Two decades later, mink and fox fur have become regulars in the most prestigious fashion shows. According to www.fashionista.com, 70 percent of designers used fur in their fall-winter

Geraldo Rivera got remarkably candid in a conversation with The Blaze’s Will Cain about his desire not to outlive his own fame. He even admitted that part of the reason he’s been to dangerous places like Libya and Iraq is because he’s “been looking to get killed in action for years.” Rivera said he doesn’t want to be one of those guys who, when they die, everyone will point out how great they used to be, and that’s why he stays engaged. And, in addition to that, he likes having a little bit of danger in his life: “I want to die with

A new law requiring motorists to remove snow and ice from their vehicles has become a new source of revenue for Connecticut. State police are aggressively ticketing drivers who ignore the so-called ´ice missile´ law. Since the law took effect Jan. 1, state police have issued at least 230 tickets to truckers and motorists who were driving snow-covered vehicles. At $120 per summons that amounts to $27,600 in tickets in a month and a half. The fine is $75, plus $45 in various surcharges.

Raising the minimum wage to $10.10 will cut about a half-million jobs out of the economy by 2016, according to a new Congressional Budget Office report Tuesday that could deal a major blow to Democrats’ chief domestic agenda item this year. A majority of low-wage workers would see their pay rise thanks to the increase and would be substantially better off, including many who would be lifted above the poverty line. But a minority would also lose jobs as businesses choose to invest elsewhere, the CBO said in its analysis of a proposal very similar to the one congressional Democrats have

For nearly three years, the Democratic approach to the political unpopularity of President Obama´s health care law was denial. Deny it played a significant role in the party´s historic midterm losses in 2010. Insist, in the face of contradictory evidence, that as more voters experienced the benefits of the law, the more popular it would become. Deny it would be a major issue at all in the 2014 midterms. The latest version of the argument points to polling showing that voters don´t want to repeal the law but prefer to see it fixed—perfectly in line with the newly adopted positions

You know things are bad when Hollywood liberals are asking California for a tax break. Film Works, an entertainment-industry advocate organization, recently launched an online petition asking California’s film and TV enthusiasts to lobby lawmakers to create greater incentives for production to stay within state borders. While operating costs in California have grown more expensive over the past decade, other states and countries have established film tax credits in an effort to bring production to their territory. If California does not pass similar legislation, Film Works warns, the state will lose hold of one of its most iconic industries. “We are now greatly

The Obama administration will attempt to resume talks with the Taliban to free the only known American soldier in captivity in exchange for the release of Taliban prisoners held at the U.S. detention facility in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. The move is an attempt to free Army Sergeant Bowe Bergdahl before the majority of US forces leave Afghanistan by the end of 2014, the report in the Washington Post said, citing current and former officials. The swap would trade Bergdahl for five Taliban members who would be released from Guantanamo Bay into protective custody in Qatar, the Post reported.

President Obama on Tuesday announced he was ordering his administration to develop a set of new fuel efficiency standards for trucks, buses and other heavy-duty vehicles. Obama did not detail specific targets for heavy-duty vehicles, but said he expected a draft proposal by March of next year and for the rule to be implemented by 2016. While heavy-duty trucks and buses represent just 4 percent of the vehicles on the road, they generate 20 percent of the nation’s vehicular carbon pollution. “We want trucks that use less oil, save more money, and cut pollution,”

Republicans are launching investigations into three state-run ObamaCare exchanges that are failing disastrously. Lawmakers are setting their sites on exchanges in Oregon, Maryland and Massachusetts, where Democratic governors embraced the healthcare law, and are demanding to know why their expensive online portals remain useless more than four months after launch. On Wednesday, four Republicans on the House Energy and Commerce Committee sent a letter to the Government Accountability Office (GAO) requesting a review of the $304 million in federal grants that Oregon received to build its broken website. “The catastrophic breakdown of Cover Oregon is unacceptable, and taxpayers deserve accountability,” wrote the group

Suddenly Monica Lewinsky is everywhere. Would-be president Rand Paul is talking about her. So is almost president Mitt Romney. Yesterday, “Morning Joe” co-host Mika Brzezinski blasted the GOP as “sexist, misogynist hypocrites” for even asking: Will the ancient L’Affaire Lewinsky hurt Hillary in 2016? I have no idea. But it has to hurt Monica Lewinsky. Her mid-1990s transgressions, when she was a mere 22, just live on and on. So does she — as the punch line of dirty jokes about Spray ’N Wash and cigars. UPPER MARLBORO, Md.- Drawing a link between reduced fuel consumption and climate change, President Barack Obama said Tuesday that his administration will issue tougher fuel-efficiency standards for delivery trucks by March 2016. Obama said helping these vehicles use less fuel would have the triple benefit of making the U.S. less dependent on imported oil, keeping more money in consumer pockets and reducing the greenhouse gas emissions blamed for global warming. "It´s not just a win win. It´s a win, win, win," Obama said at a Maryland distribution center for Safeway, where he was flanked by two delivery trucks. "You got
