New Orleans police are looking for attackers who twice used baseball bats to bash bicyclists on Esplanade Avenue, officers said Monday. In both cases, two people hit the cyclists in the head. The first incident was reported Friday at 2:20 a.m. near the intersection of Esplanade and North Robertson Street. A man was riding his bicycle on Esplanade when a male believed to be 16 to 18 years old jumped in front of him. The bicyclist slowed, then another male of about the same age came into the street with an aluminum bat. The attacker hit the cyclist in the

Acting like the White House press office, Tuesday´s CBS This Morning devoted a 3-minute report to President Obama´s habit of binge watching his favorite TV shows, with correspondent Bill Plante gushing: "He may be the leader of the free world, but when it comes to unwinding, President Obama – well, he´s a lot like us....The President tunes in to tune out. And when he needs his television, step aside." [Listen to the audio or watch the video after the jump] Plante described how Obama asked HBO CEO Richard Plepler for early copies of certain shows during the recent state dinner for

University of Michigan students plan to hold an all-night protest over what they say is low minority enrollment and inclusion on campus. The 12-hour "Speak Out" event is scheduled to begin Tuesday night and run through Wednesday morning. It´s being hosted by the United Coalition for Racial Justice, a group comprised of undergraduate and graduate students, faculty and staff. The Ann Arbor News says the event is an extension of a campaign started this year by the Black Student Union, which has criticized the university´s low black enrollment and demanded a series of changes on campus.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) said he hopes President Obama will review possible administrative actions to halt the deportations of illegal immigrants now that reform legislation has stalled in Congress. “I would hope that administratively, the president will do what he can to take a look at deportations, but he is being burdened by the law as it exists and we need to change it,” Reid told the Las Vegas Review Journal. In 2012, Obama announced that the administration would halt the deportation of undocumented young adults who met certain criteria through prosecutorial prioritization. Immigration activists and some Democrats have suggested

CBS News reports that the combination of food prices being inflated and the stagnation of wages is threatening the middle class. The report noted that staples such as chicken, ground beef, and bacon have skyrocketed in price since 2011: the price of chicken is 18.4% more than it was; ground beef is up 16.8%; and bacon saw a huge increase of 22.8% in price. These price hikes came despite the federal government’s sunny assertion that prices in general have only increased 6.4% in that period. Meanwhile, median income has only risen 1% each year, while the cost of college tuition has climbed

The Girl Scouts of the USA has sent threatening letters to at least two small pro-life groups that have been critical of Girl Scout collaborations with Planned Parenthood and other abortion advocacy groups. Since the beginning of the Girl Scout cookie boycott, exclusively announced at Breitbart News late last month, LifeNews has extensively reported on the connection between Planned Parenthood and the Girl Scouts. LifeNews editor Steve Ertelt announced Monday that he had received a letter threatening legal action. In it, Girl Scout executive Brian Crawford complained about “articles that outline alleged ties to Planned Parenthood” and that “GSUSA has

Visitors to Terminal B at Newark Liberty International Airport may notice the bright, clean lighting that now blankets the cavernous interior, courtesy of 171 recently installed LED fixtures. But they probably will not realize that the light fixtures are the backbone of a system that is watching them. Using an array of sensors and eight video cameras around the terminal, the light fixtures are part of a new wireless network that collects and feeds data into software that can spot long lines, recognize license plates and even identify suspicious activity, sending alerts to the appropriate staff. The project is still

As homeowners around the nation protest skyrocketing premiums for federal flood insurance, the Federal Emergency Management Agency has quietly moved the lines on its flood maps to benefit hundreds of oceanfront condo buildings and million-dollar homes, according to an analysis of federal records by NBC News. The changes shift the financial burden for the next destructive hurricane, tsunami or tropical storm onto the neighbors of these wealthy beach-dwellers — and ultimately onto all American taxpayers. In more than 500 instances from the Gulf of Alaska to Bar Harbor, Maine, FEMA has remapped waterfront properties from the highest-risk flood zone, saving

This week The Tonight Show with new host Jimmy Fallon returned to its storied birthplace in New York’s 30 Rockefeller Center. Jimmy is talented and likable and closest to my old boss, Johnny Carson, doing characters and sketches. Once again NBC ditched Jay Leno for a trophy comic. This despite Jay’s consistent ratings dominance. NBC hopes Fallon will hold Leno’s audience and not become Conan 2. The current late night landscape is populated by 19 comedy/talk shows. Leno was the Everyman, the flyover fave. He was middle of the road, less ironic than David Letterman and Jimmy Kimmel. The Caesar

Over seven in 10 Obama voters, and 55 percent of Democrats, regret voting for President Obama´s reelection in 2012, according to a new Economist/YouGov.com poll. Conducted to test the media hype about a comeback by 2012 Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney, the new poll found voters still uninspired by Romney, but also deeply dissatisfied with Obama who has so far failed to capitalize on his victory over 15 months ago. The poll asked those who voted for Obama´s reelection a simple question: “Do you regret voting for Barack Obama?” — Overall, 71 percent said yes, 26 percent no. — 80

Automated license plate recognition (ALPR) technology uses cameras to identify cars, alert police departments if they match a license plate on a “hot list,” and track their movements. “In support of its public safety focus, ICE, consistent with other law enforcement agency practice, is exploring the ability to obtain access to

Some people think Monday´s national holiday had something to do with commemorating the birthdays of two of the country´s greatest presidents, George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. Silly people. Monday was actually the fifth birthday of the stimulus spending bill signed by one of the country´s least great presidents, Barack Hussein Obama. That was back in 2009 when a billion dollars seemed like a lot of money. The White House says that it will not interfere with Iran’s rising oil sales, despite a recent uptick that experts say is providing Tehran with billions in revenue. Exports of Iranian crude oil jumped to 1.32 million barrels in January, up from December’s high of 1.06 million barrels, according to data from the International Energy Agency. While the increase caused concern among some experts who worry that economic sanctions on Iran are collapsing, the White House appeared unfazed by the latest export data and promised to continue pausing its efforts to reduce these sales.

With talk about the 2016 election heating up, most of the national media has turned the focus on former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Vice President Joseph Biden. Clinton and Biden would be formidable candidates. Either would be a logical successor to President Barack Obama as the leader of the Democratic Party. Yet if they are to be successful, they will need to look outside the beltway to learn about the kinds of issues that are animating voters outside of Washington. They would do well to draw on some of the ideas that have been percolating in recent months from newer

Behind President Barack Obama’s gripe to Bill O’Reilly that Fox News is always unfair to him stood a deeper resentment that has poisoned the soul of progressives for some time: Hollywood and academia might still be firmly in the grip of the orthodox left, but part of the media has managed to wriggle free. Liberals still can’t get over this fact, and their rearguard actions to regain control come in different forms: some, like our President’s objections, are innocuously transparent and amusing; others, like a recent research report on the future of media by the Brookings Institution, are more circuitous
