Why Lewinsky Shouldn´t

Bill Clinton uses a car-racing metaphor to explain the difference between rash and calm decision-making in politics. “The great drivers, when the cars get close, the turns get hairy, they calm down, and they see everything, and they act,” he says. “The ones who are fearful and can´t concentrate and can´t calm down, run into the wall.” Republican leaders should pay attention, because on the issue of whether Clinton’s sex life is relevant 14 years after he left office, they’re once again careening toward a wall. Sen. Rand Paul dredged up Clinton’s affair with Monica Lewinsky and his subsequent impeachment,

Fox News Channel contributor Karl Rove and former Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland appeared on Fox News Sunday to debate the political implications of the scandals surrounding New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie. Rove turned the tables on Strickland during the debate over Christie’s aide’s alleged malfeasance and asked why Strickland was unaware of his own aides digging up information about Samuel “Joe the Plumber” Wurzelbacher in order to discredit him during the 2008 presidential campaign. “Let’s go back to 2008 and Joe the Plumber,” Rove began. “Governor Strickland’s own appointee, as head of the employment commission, was found to have been

On Sunday´s Meet the Press, host David Gregory seemed to pick up where Andrea Mitchell left off, expressing shock that the Republicans would think it´s fair to revisit the 1990s to assess Hillary Clinton. Gregory´s interviewee was Mitt Romney, who somehow refrained from saying "You people thought allegations of my high-school bullying in 1965 were relevant, but not the Clinton presidency?" Romney dared to say Bill Clinton "embarrassed the nation" and didn´t act like an adult. (Video below): GREGORY: 2016 politics is a topic that keeps coming up for you. I´ll ask about you in a minute. Beirut - The chief of Lebanon´s Shiite movement Hezbollah, Hassan Nasrallah, vowed on Sunday that the group would prevail against extremists fighting in neighbouring Syria. "We will win this battle, God willing," he insisted, after describing the group´s role in the conflict in Syria as a fight against "takfiris" -- extremist Sunni Muslims. Hezbollah, a staunch ally of the Syrian regime, has dispatched fighters to the conflict to bolster government troops, finally admitting their presence in April 2013. Nasrallah has regularly defended the decision by saying Hezbollah is countering jihadist fighters, although extremists make up only a portion of those

A Kentucky pastor who starred in a reality show about snake-handling in church has died -- of a snakebite. Jamie Coots died Saturday evening after refusing to be treated, Middleborough police said. On "Snake Salvation," the ardent Pentecostal believer said that he believed that a passage in the Bible suggests poisonous snakebites will not harm believers as long as they are anointed by God. The practice is illegal in most states, but still goes on, primarily in the rural South. Coots was a third-generation "serpent handler" and aspired to one day pass the practice and his church, Full Gospel Tabernacle in Jesus Name, on to his adult son, Little Cody.

Suspected Boko Haram Islamists killed more than 100 people in an attack on a village in Nigeria, a local senator said on Sunday. The attackers stormed the village in Nigeria’s restive northeastern Borno state on Saturday, slaughtering scores of civilians and sending many others fleeing. “A hundred and six people, including an old woman, have been killed by the attackers, suspected to be Boko Haram gunmen,” Senator Ali Ndume said. “Sixty of the dead have been buried while the rest are awaiting burial,” he added, saying the attacks in the area were becoming “deadlier and more frequent by the day.”

Washington - Mitt Romney told GOP pals Sunday to drop talk of ex-President Bill Clinton’s sexual shenanigans if wife Hillary makes her own White House bid. “I don’t think Bill Clinton is as relevant as Hillary Clinton if Hillary Clinton decides to run for President,” the 2012 Republican nominee said on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” citing the former First Lady’s own record, including stints as a U.S. senator from New York and as secretary of state. Romney also noted that the years of Bill Clinton’s presidency “were, by and large, positive economic times for the country.” The former Massachusetts governor added that Hillary Clinton

As the Obama administration pushes to do more business over the Internet, finally seeking to close the technology gap with the private sector, the digital makeover is running into a dogged opponent called Consumers for Paper Options. (Snip) With federal budgets under fire in Congress, the government’s move to the Internet has gained pace. An electronic payment, for instance, costs the government only 9 cents to process, compared with $1.25 for a paper check, the Treasury Department says. Cairo - An explosion ripped through a bus carrying South Korean tourists in Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula on Sunday and killed three people, the deadliest attack on vacationers here in years, signaling a potential escalation in the fight by Islamist militants against the Egyptian government. The insurgency that sprouted last summer had previously confined itself to targeting Egyptian military and police forces. But as the government continues its broad repression of Islamists in the wake of the military’s removal of Islamist President Mohamed Morsi in July, the attacks could turn into a much bloodier guerrilla-style conflict, analysts say.

Chicago - A warmer Arctic could permanently affect the pattern of the high-altitude polar jet stream, resulting in longer and colder winters over North America and northern Europe, US scientists say. The jet stream, a ribbon of high altitude, high-speed wind in northern latitudes that blows from west to east, is formed when the cold Arctic air clashes with warmer air from further south. The greater the difference in temperature, the faster the jet stream moves. According to Jennifer Francis, a climate expert at Rutgers University, the Arctic air has warmed in recent years as a result of melting polar

The Eisenhower Tree, so much a part of Augusta National that not even a sitting U.S. president could have it taken down, was removed from the 17th hole this weekend because of damage from an ice storm, the club said Sunday. "The loss of the Eisenhower Tree is difficult news to accept," club chairman Billy Payne said. "We obtained opinions from the best arborists available and, unfortunately, were advised that no recovery was possible."

PARIS — ONLY the French could have an etiquette scandal. Let Americans get in a lather over peccadillos of state. The French are lamenting the state of propriety. No one in the land of Napoleon is following the code. And it is putting the citoyens of this once luminous empire in a dark mood. They are less concerned about their president’s slamming-door farcical adventures in amour than they are about the blow to their amour-propre. They fret that their image is more Feydeau than Rousseau. On this Saint-Valentin weekend, as people join un kiss flash mob at the Louvre, we

RALEIGH, N.C. — Appearing on CBS News´ "Face the Nation" Sunday to talk about the winter storm that shut down the state last week, Gov. Pat McCrory sidestepped a pointed question about his position on climate change. The question from host Bob Schieffer came at the end of a segment on North Carolina´s response to the storm. Call it the glocalization of the Tea Party movement. As those in the global – and permanent – superclass seek to make borders irrelevant, increase taxes, and empower unaccountable and far removed bureaucracies, racking up debt, increasing cronyism, and ruining economies while becoming more out of touch, Europeans are taking cues from America´s Tea Partiers. They are saying, "Enough. We´re mad as hell, and we´re not going to take it anymore." When Sarah Palin galvanized conservatives, independents, and blue-collar Reagan Democrats who were disaffected with the political system during the 2008 presidential election as John McCain´s running mate, the permanent political

The hot lap at Daytona was set by the pace car. The latest quirky occurrence at the home of the Daytona 500 came Saturday night when there was a fire inside the pace car for the exhibition Sprint Unlimited. The smoke billowing from the car might have seemed out of place at any other track. At Daytona? It seemed more a matter of when the latest track mishap would happen, not if. After all, the 2010 Daytona 500 was interrupted for more than two hours because of a pothole in the track. Juan Pablo Montoya slammed into a jet dryer in

On January 1 an agreement between the United States and our most hostile enemy went into effect. This agreement was secretly negotiated at secret meetings by a secret Presidential trip, and a secretive Secretary of State. This super secret agreement we were told would bring peace in our time. We were told that it would hold Iran accountable, and cause them to roll back, or at least halt current uranium enrichment necessary for nuclear weapons. We were told that the world would be safer because this agreement came about. And we were told it represented the national security interests of

A new poll puts Obama’s false promise, “if you like your healthcare plan you can keep it,” in perspective: 64% of Americans say ObamaCare would’ve never passed if Americans had known the truth in 2009. Moreover, the Fox news poll found the sentiment to be spread across all party lines, with 74% of Republicans, 68% of Independents and 54% of Democrats saying Obama’s unpopular healthcare program would never have passed. Even more troubling, 56% of Americans said ObamaCare was more about the government seizing control of citizens’ lives, versus just 40% who felt Obama’s plan was about improving healthcare. Karl Rove called out former Governor Ted Strickland (D., Ohio) for his hypocritical attacks on Chris Christie’s competence on Fox News Sunday. Strickland alleged Christie was incompetent because he was unaware some of his subordinates ordered the GWB bridge closing. Rove countered with a story from the 2008 election cycle revealing one of Strickland’s own high ranking officials inappropriately accessed damaging information about Joe the Plumber which was eventually leaked, all allegedly without the former Ohio governor’s knowledge. Strickland denied that his appointee was ever directed to leak that information for political purposes, but as Rove pointed out the record suggests otherwise: KARL ROVE:

South Carolina Electric & Gas reported 22,700 outages and Duke Energy still had 8,400 customers without power. At the peak of the storm, about 350,000 customers lost power across

At 3:15 on the morning of March 13, 1964, a 28-year-old bar manager named Kitty Genovese drove her red Fiat into the parking lot of the LIRR station by her Kew Gardens home. As she walked home — she was only about “a hundred paces away” from the apartment she shared with her girlfriend, Mary Ann Zielonko — she heard a man’s footsteps close behind her. She ran, but the man, Winston Moseley, was too quick. He caught her, slammed her to the ground and stabbed her twice in the back. She screamed twice, once yelling, “Oh, God!
