America, you know how to treat a president and his family. With another Presidents´ Day bachelor holiday planned by President Obama, this time golfing in California, and Aspen, Colo., resort reporters on the lookout for the annual first lady ski trip this weekend, the taxpayer´s tab for the first family´s vacations has topped $2.4 million. But that´s just the start. That total is just from the skimpy documents detailing travel and security expenses obtained by the public watchdog group Judicial Watch from a handful of first family vacations.

Who’s Lost Credibility Now?

When Speaker of the House John Boehner said that conservative groups like the Club for Growth have been “misleading their followers” and have “lost all credibility,” I didn’t pay much attention to it. After all, members of Congress are constantly saying the Club doesn’t matter — even though it’s belied by the facts: Since 2006 the Club’s PAC has helped nearly 50 endorsed candidates get elected to Congress. Some of the party’s brightest stars — senators Marco Rubio of Florida, Pat Toomey of Pennsylvania, and Ted Cruz of Texas, congressmen Ron DeSantis of Florida and Justin Amash of Michigan —

Valentine´s Day is an occasion to shower your significant other with flowers, chocolates, and, as one wise animated clock once said, promises you don´t intend to keep. Not the case centuries ago. Long before Valentine´s Day became Hallmark´s holiday, Feb. 14 marked the day a Roman priest was beaten with clubs, stoned, and beheaded for his attempts to protect people´s right to get married. The origin of St. Valentine, and how many St. Valentines there actually were, remains a mystery. One was a Roman priest, another an Italian bishop, and a third was a clergyman in Africa. None of them

Is Hillary Clinton Too Old to Run?
National Journal, by Charlie Cook    Original Article
Posted By: JoniTx- 2/14/2014 1:28:30 PM     Post Reply
At least every week now, there is a new story supporting the narrative of an inevitable 2016 Hillary Clinton presidential bid. Indeed, the conventional wisdom is that it is an absolute certainty that she will run. If anyone is currently saying, flat out, that Hillary isn´t running, I haven´t come across them. Is the inevitability of her run really as certain as the conventional wisdom suggests, and further, is it unfolding in an optimal manner for the potential candidate? In all likelihood, Clinton will not make a final, "go-or-no-go" decision until early next year, after the dust has settled from

Green-baiter James Delingpole has quit his blog at Telegraph with customary flair: ‘Today is the sad day when I must bid you all farewell. I have been appointed Chief Sustainability Consultant at the Department of Energy and Climate Change, working directly to one of my all-time-heroes Ed Davey, with a juicy, taxpayer-funded salary, a ring-fenced pension and a bio-fuel-powered Aston-Martin just like the Prince of Wales’s. No, not really, about the second bit. Just the first bit: I’m off to pastures new.’ Mr Steerpike hears that the pastures new are the launch of a London office of right-wing muck-racking website

BENSALEM, Pa.— Several multi-vehicles crashes, involving as many as 100 cars and dozens of tractor-trailers stretched over several miles of icy highway, shut down the eastbound lanes of the Pennsylvania Turnpike this morning. One crash area involved approximately 75 cars and several tractor-trailers. There were reports of at least 24 injuries. As of 11:40 a.m., Doylestown Hospital confirmed it was treating one victim who was in stable condition, while Abington was reportedly treating 16 people. Dr. John Kelly, chief of staff at Abington, says the good news is none of the injuries are serious: “The word that we have is

Earlier this month, a Tesla Model S sitting in a Toronto garage ignited and caught on fire. The car was about four months old and was not plugged in to an electric socket, says a source. Fires are a touchy issue for the company, which reports Q4 2013 earnings on February 19th. Last year, three vehicles caught fire over the course of six weeks. The company has previously pointed out in a government filing that the lithium ion battery cells "have been observed to catch fire or vent smoke and flame." So the fires have raised concerns with consumers and caused

Rep. When asked by Ransom Notes Radio whether people will finally get tired of Obama´s use of executive authority, Brady said: "I certainly hope so because enough´s enough. He just doesn´t understand the branches of government or the Constitution." Brady said Congress in theory has the power to stop Obama, but Senate Democrats are making that impossible. Christopher Porter-Bailey, the man arrested in a brutal robbery and attack during San Francisco Pride weekend, has been found guilty in the assault of the woman, the District Attorney’s Office said. The June 30 attack was captured on video. In the widely circulated clip, a woman sits dazed on the sidewalk after three men punched her and stole her phone. Having gotten what they came for, the group moves along, but then Porter-Bailey turns back and delivers a violent kick to the woman’s face. A cautionary note: The video below is disturbing. "There is no education in the second kick of a mule," said Sen. Mitch McConnell of Kentucky. With some such thought in mind, Speaker John Boehner strode to the floor of the House to offer a "clean" debt ceiling bill and relied on Nancy Pelosi´s Democrats to pass it. They did. "Surrender" and "betrayal," are among the epithets coming the Speaker´s way. Yet Boehner was holding a losing hand. Had he added a GOP wish-list bill to the debt ceiling, Harry Reid´s Senate would have rejected it. President Obama would have denounced it as putting at risk the full faith and credit of

Today, the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals heard oral argument in the case of Wagner v. Jones. Our friend Peter Berkowitz discussed the case in a Wall Street Journal op-ed (it’s behind a pay wall). Teresa Wagner accuses the University of Iowa College of Law of violating her First and Fourteenth Amendment rights by refusing to hire her for its legal analysis, writing, and research program due to her strong pro-life views and activism. Her accusation is strongly supported by a comparison of her qualifications for the position and those of the two individuals selected by the law school. Wagner was already

Friday is Valentine’s Day, the most saccharine holiday of the year. Ignoring it is noble social protest but, I can report from experience, risky domestic policy. Which is why, over the next two days, millions of consumers will be buying their significant others ridiculous red cards. According to the industry’s trade group, some 145 million Valentine’s cards are sold in the U.S. every year. Those cards are ridiculous not just because of the sappy sayings on their covers. They’re ridiculous because, on a planet of seven billion people, it’s nuts to buy a piece of card stock, place it into

Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (Ky.) delivered a message to Tea Party critics when he cast a decisive vote Wednesday that led to Senate passage of a debt-ceiling hike: Bring it on. In perhaps his most defining moment in the 113th Congress, McConnell strode up to the dais and declared his “aye” vote in a clear voice heard throughout the chamber. It broke the impasse and seven more Republicans soon voted as well to end the filibuster. It was a risky decision for McConnell, who is facing a difficult primary battle from businessman Matt Bevin, a conservative backed by Tea Party groups. McConnell’s

There are not many films about the Second World War which I will refuse to watch. But with his new Nazi art heist epic George Clooney may actually have made an unwatchable piece of cinema about that most fascinating of conflicts. The reviews for The Monuments Men have been dire. [Snip] Apparently the extremely simplistic film even contains a scene in which Clooney´s character explains, with the aid of a large map and a stick, where Europe is and what the Nazis are up to. He explains this to the President Roosevelt character. In the Oval Office.

Iranian oil exports soared in January, hitting new highs just months after the United States consented to billions of dollars in economic sanctions relief under the interim nuclear deal. Exports of Iranian crude oil jumped to 1.32 million barrels, up from December’s high of 1.06 million barrels, according to data from the International Energy Agency. The spike in exports—mainly to Japan, China, and India—has helped Iran’s once-ailing economy stabilize and decrease inflation. Iranian oil exports have steadily risen since negotiations with the West restored confidence in Tehran’s economy. The increase runs counter to a promise by the Obama administration that “Iran’s oil exports
