WSJ: Ted Cruz on Mission to ‘Make
Republicans Even More Unpopular’
Mediaite, by Noah Rothman    Original Article

The Wall Street Journal editorial board published a tight and scathing criticism of Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) on Thursday after the freshman senator criticized Republicans who helped to pass a clean debt ceiling limit increase on Wednesday. The board criticized Cruz for lacking a strategy and for pursuing an ideological agenda that would result in negative consequences for his party. “The Senate passed the House debt-limit increase on Wednesday, but not before some needless drama that helps to explain why Republicans remain a minority,” the WSJ piece began. They went on to note that not passing a debt ceiling increase would likely

My five-year-old is extravagantly furious at being thwarted. I have infringed her human rights by mildly suggesting that she turn off the television and put some clothes on. I can see the dark storm clouds gathering on her thunderous brow, her eyes narrowing, mouth pursed in Shakespearean displeasure as she reaches for the most hurtful, serpent’s tooth ingratitude she can think of. “You’re Not My Friend Any More!” To which I reply, swift as Lady Macbeth’s dagger, “I never was your friend in the first place, darling. Friends don’t wash your socks or buy you a warm winter coat or

Republicans in Congress are being accused of fighting a "war on the war on poverty," in part because of a tiny cut in the food stamps program last week. Democrats charge that these "cuts" will take food from the mouths of hungry children, and they claim this is an example of how Congress has shred the safety net for the poor. Never mind that this is the food aid program that has tripled in cost and doubled in participation in just the last decade. Even during the economic recovery, the number of recipients — one in seven Americans — continues to

Here´s What ´Income
Equality´ Would Look Like
Wall Street Journal, by Scott Hodge    Original Article
Posted By: Desert Fox- 2/13/2014 7:48:07 PM     Post Reply
President Obama has talked a lot recently about reducing income inequality. Yet he neither acknowledges how much money the government is redistributing, nor how much more would be needed to close the income gap. Perhaps that´s because the project would require redistribution on a staggering scale. That´s the upshot of two separate studies published in November 2013 by the Congressional Budget Office and the Tax Foundation. While they used slightly different methodologies, each study measured the amount of existing redistribution by the federal government—by comparing how much Americans get back in total federal spending (everything from transfer programs to national defense)

Connect for Health Colorado, the state´s Obamacare insurance exchange, is reeling after news surfaced that Christa Ann McClure, a top agency executive, will stand trial in Montana for embezzling from her previous nonprofit employer. McClure, 51, was hired as Director of Partner Engagement at Connect for Health Colorado in March 2013 after a thorough vetting. She hadn´t yet been indicted in the case, which stemmed from her tenure at the helm of Housing Montana of Billings, a federal contractor. President Obama will be spending Valentine´s Day with the one he loves the most. Michelle and the kids will be vacationing separately. Sound familiar? The president and first lady spent Presidents Day weekend in separate vacations last year as well. That, you might remember, was when the White House itself was closed to schoolchildren who had saved up all year for their trips to D.C. only to find out the administration could no longer afford to give tours. But Congress somehow managed to fully fund tours of the U.S. Capitol. You might also recall that during Presidents Day weekend last year America´s

In the last decade, several mainstream American Protestant denominations have flirted with resolutions endorsing boycotts of companies doing business with Israel. Most of these efforts have been defeated, albeit narrowly, by strenuous efforts by Jewish groups determined to preserve good interfaith relations as well as by Christians who wanted no part of a movement dedicated to waging economic war on a democratic state. In most cases, these battles have involved a small cadre of left-wing activists involved in church leadership groups that had little support among ministers, and even less among rank-and-file church members. Thus, even the Presbyterian Church USA

Bring terrorists to America for trial in civilian courts — what could possibly go wrong? Well, if you want a glimpse into the future, consider what happened when the Obama administration brought a Somali pirate to America to stand trial in a civilian court. POLITICO reports: Just a few weeks ago, Ali Mohamed Ali was facing the possibility of a mandatory life sentence in a 2008 shipjacking off the coast of Yemen — an incident much like the one dramatized in the film “Captain Phillips.” Now, the Somali native is in immigration detention in Virginia and seeking permanent asylum in the United

Dems to force GOP on wage hike

CAMBRIDGE, MD – House Democrats are launching an effort to force the Republicans´ hand on the minimum wage. The Democrats will introduce a discharge petition later this month designed to force a floor vote on a proposal to hike the minimum wage, even in the face of entrenched opposition from GOP leaders. The discharge petition faces a high bar, as it would require at least 18 Republicans to buck their leadership and endorse the measure – a scenario the Democrats readily acknowledge is unlikely. "I don´t think we´re ever confident that we´re going to get 18 Republicans to sign a discharge petition," House

Sen. Bob Corker accused two of his GOP colleagues of crassly holding up a vote on raising the nation´s debt limit as a way to line their campaign war chest. "Forty-three of those Republican senators knew what had to be done yesterday," the Tennessee Republican told CNBC´s "Squawk Box" on Thursday, referring to Wednesday´s Senate vote to raise the debt ceiling. "And we have two senators, let´s face it, that are really, really upset that they weren´t able to use this to raise a lot of money for their PACs and for their campaigns. As you may recall, we tend to reserve the "pure gold" descriptor for uniquely egregious instances of Obama hypocrisy. This one surely qualifies. Remember back in 2013 when some in the GOP were wishing Sen. Ted Cruz would shut up about Obamacare on the floor of the Senate? The debt ceiling, they told us, was where the real battle would take place. So they wanted Cruz to clam up, because after all, there was a GOP plan to go to war over the debt ceiling next time the Democrats wanted to raise the national debt. Stroll though this National Review piece from last year (“The New Cantor Plan”) and reminisce. At the time, lots of conservatives fell for it. Yes, the debt ceiling, that’s

And while 52-year-old Barack Obama’s expression suggests he may be reconsidering his “special relationship” with France, he really is in no position to complain. Reuters reports that the U.S. submitted its vision for a new international global warming agreement to the United Nations on Wednesday, suggesting a “bifurcated approach” of the 1997 Kyoto Protocol — placing different emissions targets for rich and poor countries. “So this is just the latest example of President Obama’s contempt for obeying the Constitution and our laws,” Myron Ebell, director of the Center of Energy and Environment at the Competitive Enterprise

But the state Energy Commission in December proposed that the company instead use more conventional technologies, such as solar panels or mirrored troughs. The Hill newspaper reported Thursday that documents released through a Freedom of Information Act request show meetings, events and phone calls where the two were together. They also show at

Two well-known tea party groups spent more than 80 percent of the money they raised in 2013 not on the causes and candidates that they say it is their mission to support, but on operating expenditures, like paying consultants, companies who produce mailing materials and renting mailing lists. The new Tea Party Patriots Citizens Fund and the independent expenditure arm of Tea Party Express — the Our Country Deserves Better PAC — spent a majority of the money they raised on things other than political expenditures. The Tea Party Patriots Citizens Fund has been raising money since early last year.
