RUSH: You know, I did hit this pretty hard an hour ago. And I want to hit this again, because a lot of people are glossing over this, as I think a lot of people are glossing over a lot of big stuff, which may be understandable in the sense that most people feel powerless to do anything about it. But, when among the people feeling powerless to do anything about it is the Speaker of the House of Representatives of the United States of America, to me, that´s big. Now, the specific comment that John Boehner made regarding immigration reform,

Appearing on MSNBC, former Secretary of State Colin Powell savaged the Republican Party of which he says he is still a member for catering to “elements” that are overtly hostile to people of other races or nationalities. Powell told MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell that there are groups within the GOP who “demonize people who don’t look like the way they’d like them to look.” He added that, for this reason, he believes the GOP needs him more than the Democratic Party needs him. Speaking with Mitchell about the need for immigration reform, Powell said that reforming the system was critical. “We are

RUSH: I want you to hear this Democrat member of Congress talking about the great benefit of Obamacare, meaning you can stay home to tuck in your kids at night. His name is Mark Pocan, P-o-c-a-n, and he is a Democrat from Wisconsin. This is during the Q&A. This is Wednesday of the Capitol Hill, the hearing, the budget committee hearing on the federal budget. This is when the CBO guy showed up and said Obamacare is destroying things, and it´s only gonna get worse. He had a back-and-forth with Doug Elmendorf, CBO director. In his New York Times column today, former Enron adviser Paul Krugman cheers the news that ObamaCare subsidies are expected to have a greater-than-expected disincentive effect on work: On Wednesday, Douglas Elmendorf, the director of the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office, said the obvious: losing your job and choosing to work less aren´t the same thing. If you lose your job, you suffer immense personal and financial hardship. If, on the other hand, you choose to work less and spend more time with your family, "we don´t sympathize. We say congratulations." And now you know everything you need to know about the latest

BERLIN — Germans were already smarting from revelations that U.S. intelligence listened in on the phone conversations of Chancellor Angela Merkel. Then came Nulandgate. On Thursday, a video was posted on YouTube in which Victoria Nuland, the top U.S. diplomat for Europe, disparagingly dismissed European Union efforts to mediate the ongoing crisis in the Ukraine by bluntly saying, “F--- the E.U.” On Friday, Merkel, through press attache Christiane Wirtz, described the gaffe as “absolutely unacceptable,” and defended the efforts of Catherine Ashton, the E.U.’s foreign policy chief.

Despite my earnest intentions, my family and I are still not covered on the Washington, D.C. Obamacare exchange. I am beginning to despair that I will ever obtain insurance from the exchange. To briefly recap my ordeal (you can read my previous piece here) I went to the D.C. Health Link web page in early November to sign up my family. It was not as straightforward as I anticipated: The first few times I tried to enter the names and vitals for my wife and children the web site either locked up or otherwise failed to store that information anywhere.

In one of the most unconventional foreign policy stories in recent memory, U.S. Assistant Secretary of State Victoria Nuland allegedly said “fuck the E.U.” on a leaked phone call and has come under fire for the unfiltered remark. But according to a State Department spokeswoman, Nuland has now apologized for the remark that’s set off quite the controversy. Nuland was talking about working with the United Nations to deal with the current political situation in Ukraine when she made the offending remark. Naturally, the rather undiplomatic comment didn’t go over well once it went public: “She’s been in close contact with E.U.

From the senators’ letter: First, in your interview with O’Reilly, you said, “In the aftermath what became clear was that the security was lax, that not all the precautions that needed to be taken were taken.” We agree with your assessment, which is substantiated by the terrorist attack itself as well as multiple

The agreement calls for him to serve 13 months in prison. Stephen Jin-Woo Kim was accused of sharing information from a classified report on North Korea with Fox chief Washington correspondent James Rosen. Investigators also targeted Rosen, calling him a possible “co-conspirator” to obtain a search warrant for his personal e-mail. What a coincidence! After Barack Obama became the first major-party candidate since Watergate to opt out of the presidential matching-fund system and its spending limits and raised hundreds of millions of dollars in two election cycles, wealthy liberal activists want Congress to impose a public-finance system for federal-government elections. In fact, it’s some of the same people that Obama’s broken promise to remain within that now-defunct system enabled: Some big Democratic donors have a message for Congress: Don’t rely so much on the rich to fill your campaign war chests. A smartphone is sleek, compact and valuable, which makes it a perfect target for a thief. Californian lawmakers want to require cellphone companies to fix that problem. In the last year, officials in San Francisco and New York have pressured cellphone companies to adopt a so-called “kill switch” that would render a smartphone unusable after it was stolen, which would make it difficult for a thief to sell the device. On Friday, State Senator Mark Leno of California, a Democrat, is expected to introduce legislation requiring all smartphones and tablets sold in the state to include this kind of feature.

Harry Reid effectively owns the U.S. Senate. Democrats and Republicans have long debated how Reid managed to get such a tight grip on the upper chamber. But there is no debating this much: Nothing happens on the floor, or in committee, without the Nevada Democrat´s approval. Most important Senate legislation is written in Reid’s office and sent directly to the floor for a vote on final passage, sidelining committee chairmen who historically have functioned as an influential and quasi-independent force. In the past, a bill would not go to the floor before a series of votes and amendments in whatever

Paul Ryan. “Rep. Paul Ryan is telling reporters that President Obama is ‘increasingly lawless,’” according to the DNC email. “Rep. Several states are dumping their prison population’s healthcare onto Obamacare. At least six states and counties fromMaryland to Oregon’s Multnomah are getting inmates coverage under Obamacare and its expansion of Medicaid, the federal and state health-care program for the poor. The fledgling movement would shift to the federal government some of the more than $6.5 billion in annual state costs for treating prisoners. Proponents say it also will make recidivism rarer, because inmates released with coverage are more likely to get treatment for mental illness, substance abuse and other conditions that can lead them to crime. “When someone gets discharged from the

Port Authority workers closed the main entrance to the World Trade Center station about 8:45 a.m. after ice began plummeting more than 1000 feet off the nearly-completed building, officials said. Service to Newark and Hoboken was suspended. The tower´s distinctive design made matters worse, witnesses said. The building’s sloping corners functioned like a ski jump for falling ice. "The ice just comes down the side and shoots off," said one PATH worker, who declined to give his

The U.S. Olympic Committee awards $25,000 for each gold medal, $15,000 for silver and $10,000 for bronze. But top athletes who are in the top income tax bracket , 39.6 per cent, will have to fork over as much as $9,900 of a gold medal payout. The death last Sunday of Oscar-winning actor Philip Seymour Hoffman at age 46 focused media attention on the nationwide surge in heroin use and overdoses. But the very real heroin epidemic is framed by an even more dramatic increase since the beginning of the century in overdoses from pharmaceutical drugs known as opioids. These are, in effect, tandem epidemics — an addiction crisis driven by the powerful effects on the human brain of drugs derived from morphine.Further tests are pending to determine the precise cause of actor Philip Seymour Hoffman’s death.
