A top Democratic congresswoman from Texas boasted recently that a new ´Full Employment Caucus´ of liberal lawmakers in Washington will make its ´number one agenda´ providing the White House with ready-made executive orders that President Barack Obama can use to implement his agenda without seeking the approval of Republicans in Congress. Sheila Jackson Lee, a far-left legislator who has served in Congress since 1995, said during a Jan. 29 press conference the new caucus will be working to ´give President Obama a number of executive orders that he can sign with pride and strength.´ ´In fact,´ she said, ´I think that should

Attack on a California Transformer
Could Have Been Dress Rehearsal

An attack on California electrical transformers in April is believed by some to be a practice round for a terrorist attack on the U.S. power grid. The coordinated attack began outside of Silicon Valley where attackers cut telephone wires at 1 a.m. on April 16, according to the Wall Street Journal. About half an hour later snipers shot at an electrical substation for about 19 minutes, destroying 17 transformers in the process. The attackers escaped before police arrived and remain at large. It took 27 days to repair the substation and crews had to reroute power around the site using Silicon Valley power

Obama´s dangerous game on

One of the most unfortunate pieces of White House spinning over the Iran nuclear negotiations is that those who supported new sanctions legislation – including several Democrat senators--were effectively "voting for war". They weren´t. What they were voting for was an alternative way of dealing with Iran. A more results-driven and fact-based approach, that clashes with several of the premises that underpin the current Kerry-Obama approach to the negotiations. The new Senate sanctions bill (now successfully stalled, it seems) didn´t call for new sanctions straight away. What it did was seek to put a hard floor under the negotiations process:

Kerry: Chemical weapons deal

President Obama´s chemical weapons deal with Syria has “improved” Syrian President Bashar Assad´s position, Secretary of State John Kerry acknowledged Wednesday. Kerry´s admission comes after Director of National Intelligence James Clapper told Congress last week the deal “adds legitimacy” to the Assad regime, even as it has the potential to eliminate a threat to the U.S. The deal is coming under fire, after Syria blew crucial deadlines in recent weeks, turning over only about 5 percent of its arsenal. The Assad regime has until June 30 to eliminate the program. “It´s fair to say that Assad has improved his position a little

The U.S. postal service inspector general put out a report last week suggesting an intriguing way to shore up the ailing institution’s finances: Let the mailman double as a bank teller. The plan? The post office would offer services designed to appeal to America’s unbanked and under-banked — the more than 50 million adults who either have no checking or savings account, or use high-cost, predatory services like payday loans to supplement traditional banking needs.(snip)What gives? Is it just that bank archenemy Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), whose relationship with financial services most resembles Batman’s with the Joker, said she liked the

(Video) You would be correct to look at the slew of retirements in Congress and conclude that for many, the Capitol’s hallowed halls just aren’t what they used to be. Who needs such low approval ratings (13 %), the extra long to-do lists with unchecked boxes, and just imagine the stress of all that gridlock. Well, a certain spiritual guru and friend of Oprah wants in. She is none other than Marianne Willamson, a bona fide congressional candidate. The best-selling self-help author, old Oprah show regular and lecturer is vying to fill retiring Rep. Henry A. Waxman’s progressive shoes in

Germany´s wind and solar power generation came to a standstill in late 2013. More than 23,000 wind turbines ran out of wind and most of the one million photovoltaic systems ran out of sunlight. For a whole week, coal nuclear and gas-powered plants generated an estimated 95 percent of Germany´s electricity. Britain has 3,500 wind turbines, but during a period of extreme cold they produced just 1.8% of UK´s electricity. But, gluttons for punishment, politicians intend building more.

The Department of Homeland Security has issued a warning to U.S. and some foreign airlines traveling to Russia for the Olympic Games to be on the lookout for toothpaste containers, which some intelligence indicates may actually hold ingredients that could be used to construct a bomb aboard a plane, a senior U.S. official told ABC News. The official did not provide further details about the warning or the intelligence that prompted it, but an official with the Department of Homeland Security, while declining to discuss the specific warning, said the department "regularly shares relevant information with domestic and international partners,

WASHINGTON — President Obama´s comments in a pre-Super Bowl interview about the tax exemptions of political groups have reignited the partisan debate on Capitol Hill over the Internal Revenue Service´s role in policing political speech. With IRS Commissioner John Koskinen testifying at a House subcommittee Wednesday for this first time since his confirmation in December, Republicans and Democrats argued anew over the IRS´s admission last May that it improperly targeted Tea Party groups. On Sunday, Obama told Fox News the controversy came out of "bone-headed decisions" in the agency´s Cincinnati office and "not even a smidgen of corruption." "This committee

Although Congress still has the “power of the purse,” it chooses not to withhold funding whenever President Obama tries to do an end-run around it by issuing executive orders because members of both parties are content with passing all-or-nothing spending bills that take this constitutional option off the table, says Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah). CNSNews.com asked Lee why Congress has not used its constitutional authority to rein-in such presidential overreach. “Yeah, Congress has not done that, and it’s a source of great frustration to me," the Utah Republican replied. President Obama made the remark to Fox News’s Bill O’Reilly in their Super Bowl Sunday interview. Carney told Karl that there were “at least 20 news organizations” that agreed with an independent Investigator General who said, back in May, that he found no evidence “that anyone outside of the IRS” participated in any “inappropriate targeting of conservative, or progressive for that matter,

WASHINGTON -- A poll indicated Wednesday that if former U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton runs for president her biggest challenge could come from a more conservative Democrat. While the poll, conducted by CNN, finds Clinton an overwhelming favorite with 70 percent of Democrats and Democratic-leaning independent voters saying they would support her if she mounts a second presidential bid in 2016, the split on the remaining Democrats is surprising. Conventional wisdom has held Clinton´s biggest liability in a potential primary is from the liberal wing of the party, where President Barack Obama found support to defeat her in their historic 2008 primary race. WASHINGTON — Conservative Republicans on Wednesday ruled out any immigration legislation in the House this year, insisting that the GOP should wait until next year when the party might also control the Senate. House GOP leaders unveiled their broad immigration principles last week that gave hope to advocates and the Obama administration that the first changes in the nation’s laws in three decades might happen in the coming months. Immigration legislation is one of the top priorities for Obama’s second term. But several of the conservatives were adamant that the House should do nothing on the issue this year, a

Israeli victims of terrorism lashed out at Secretary of State John Kerry for his “insensitivity” after he inaccurately claimed “not one Israeli was killed by a Palestinian from the West Bank” in a recent speech. The Obama administration’s Treasury Department and former IRS official Lois Lerner conspired to draft new 501(c)(4) regulations to restrict the activity of conservative groups in a way that would not be disclosed publicly, according to the House Committee on Ways and Means. The Treasury Department and Lerner started devising the new rules “off-plan,” meaning that their plans would not be published on the public schedule. They planned the new rules in 2012, while the IRS targeting of conservative groups was in full swing, and not after the scandal broke in order to clarify regulations as the administration has suggested.
