Immigration Official Warns: Eric Cantor´s

Amnesty for Illegal Alien Youths

United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) National Council president Kenneth Palinkas warns that a position House Majority Leader Eric Cantor has taken on amnesty for illegal alien youths is one that could turn into a perpetual amnesty for all illegal alien minors. In a letter to House Judiciary Committee chairman Rep. Bob Goodlatte (R-VA) delivered Wednesday, Palinkas raised the concern with Cantor’s position for the first time in public. Palinkas wrote to Goodlatte that he is “concerned by Congressman Cantor´s position that citizenship for young illegal immigrants is based on ´the great founding principles of our country.´” “If this

House GOP leaders back limited path

House Republican leaders on Thursday endorsed a limited path to legal status for some illegal immigrants, in a move Democrats said could open the door to a deal on comprehensive immigration legislation. The position was included in a document released by party leaders during their annual retreat in Maryland. The "standards for immigration reform" document ruled out a special path to citizenship for illegal immigrants. Instead, it said immigrants living here illegally could remain and live legally if they pass background checks, pay fines and back taxes, learn to speak English and understand U.S. civics, and can support themselves without access to

Mitt Romney Is the 2016
Republican Front-Runner

Mitt Romney leads the Republican field among New Hampshire primary voters for 2016. Yes, you read that right. Why not make it a third run for president? That´s something that the former Republican nominee is definitely not thinking about right now. To put it in his own recent words: "Oh, no, no, no. No, no, no, no, no. No, no, no." But that didn´t stop the Virginia-based bipartisan policy firm Purple Strategies from adding his name to a recent survey for Granite State voters, which shows Romney in the lead with 25 percent support. Libertarian firebrand Rand Paul (who has strong

Congressman Ryan, the chairman of the RNC, Reince Priebus and the RNC communications director, Sean Spicer, they are all appearing on MSNBC to talk up immigration reform. Republican National Committee Chairman Priebus and his communications director and Paul Ryan are appearing on MSNBC to talk up immigration reform. Why would they do that? Nobody watches MSNBC. I mean, why would they go to a network, the viewers of which are already committed to amnesty? Well, now, you might say, well,

RUSH: This is just late January. Anything can change. And the big thing that could wipe all of this out is the one issue that could make Republicans stay home, and that would be if the House Republican leadership pushes forward with any kind of immigration reform. There is no reason that any Republican voter can be made to understand why we have to do this, and yet the Republican leadership seems hell-bent on getting this done. It´s the end of the Republican Party. That´s not even arguable. All you have to do is look at California and what´s happened to

The Washington Post entertainingly debunks an ObamaCare "success story" proffered by Rep. Donna Edwards of Maryland. "Thanks to the ACA, Ms. [Lorita] Waltz was able to sign up for a quality plan that meets her health care needs and fits into her family´s budget," Edwards announced in a press release. Edwards invited Waltz as her guest to the State of the Union address because, the lawmaker told the Post, "I´m just really excited about our health-care system." But this turns out to be more of a rescue than a success story. Way back in October, Waltz´s husband had tried and failed

A brain surgeon walked six miles through a snowstorm in Alabama on Tuesday to perform life-saving surgery. Dr Zenko Hrynkiw was at Brookwood Medical Center in Tuesday morning when he was needed for emergency brain surgery miles away at Trinity Medical Center. The problem was the sudden snowstorm had locked down traffic, and the neurosurgeon didn´t get farther than a few blocks by vehicle. ´The cell service was bad so we were fading in and out,´ said Steve Davis, charge nurse in the neuro intensive care unit at Trinity. ´At one point, I heard him say, "I´m walking."´ Davis had alerted authorities, and they

Georgia Governor Nathan Deal today apologized for the state´s catastrophic failure to respond to a snow storm which left thousands of people stranded in cars and children forced to sleep at their schools. Deal has ordered an internal review of authorities´ slow and muddled reaction after just two inches of snowfall on Tuesday left the Atlanta area of Georgia in utter chaos. After several days of blaming other officials, weather forecasters, truck drivers and even ´Mother Nature´, Deal admitted on Thursday: ´I’m not going to look for a scapegoat. I am the governor. The National Insurance Advance would be paid by anyone from outside the EU and would only be refunded once they have paid enough tax or left the country without becoming a drain on the welfare state. To paraphrase the great Commissioner James Gordon, MSNBC is not the villain the Republican National Committee deserves, but it’s the one they need right now. Yes, RNC Chairman Reince Priebus‘s strongly-worded memo to Republican elected officials and committee staffers banning them from appearing on a cable news network — which has made a virtue of antagonizing not merely GOP policymakers but the party’s rank and file voters — is a publicity stunt. It is also rather brilliant politics. On issues ranging from abortion policy, to the expanding federal debt, to reforming the nation’s health care system, polls consistently show that the Republican

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) thinks that the House GOP leadership’s renewed push this week to grant amnesty to illegal aliens would destroy the Republican Party’s chances at retaking the Senate in 2014. Cruz questioned how establishment Republicans unilaterally caving to Democrats on everything from the farm bill to the budget to the debt ceiling and more could think amnesty is a good idea at this time. "Right now, Republican leadership in both chambers is aggressively urging members to stand down on virtually every front: on the continuing resolution, on the budget, on the farm bill, on the debt ceiling,” Cruz

The footage, recorded by a teenage boy in the class at Gibbs High School in St Petersburg, Florida, shows two young girls exchanging a war of words with their classmates egging them on. The female teacher initially stands between the girls, trying to get them to calm down, but then the students start lashing out at each other - and she can do nothing but stand back and watch. [Breaking news update at 4:00 p.m. ET] An Italian appeals court convicted former exchange student Amanda Knox and her ex-boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito on murder charges Thursday night. Prosecutors said the couple had killed Meredith Kercher in 2007. They were convicted two years later of murder, but those charges were overturned on appeal in 2011. It is unlikely Knox, who lives in Seattle, Washington, will return to Italy to serve additional prison time because U.S. law dictates that a person cannot be tried twice on the same charge, a legal expert tells CNN.

When it comes to portraits, a gauzy look can be a welcome thing for people of a certain age. But politics takes place in an unforgiving spotlight, as Texas Democratic gubernatorial hopeful Wendy Davis discovered when the Dallas Morning News exposed discrepancies in her oft-told tale of bootstrapping her way from single motherhood in a Fort Worth trailer park to graduating from Harvard Law School. That narrative has been central to Davis’ appeal as she seeks to translate the national attention from her marathon filibuster in defense of abortion rights last year into votes for her underdog candidacy this year.

Federal prosecutors will seek the death penalty against accused Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, U.S. Attorney Carmen M. Ortiz announced today. The much-anticipated decision by Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. comes months after Ortiz´s office made a top-secret recommendation on whether they would seek capital punishment against Tsarnaev, who authorities say planned and carried out the attack that killed three and injured more than 260 on April 15. "Today, United States Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. authorized the government to seek the death penalty in the case of United States v. Dzhokhar A. Tsarnaev," Ortiz said in a

President Obama´s plan to tackle the U.S. retirement crisis is ambitious and well-intentioned but unlikely to have much of an effect, experts say. In his State of the Union address, Obama proposed a new type of retirement account for the 4 in 10 Americans who don´t have access to 401(k) plans at their jobs. The accounts, dubbed MyRA, would offer guaranteed investment returns, no fees and tax-free profits. But Obama´s proposal rests on a pair of uncertain assumptions: that employers would be willing to offer the accounts and that financially stretched low-income workers would agree to participate in them.

WASHINGTON— Americans are among the least likely to be concerned about retirement security, or to view the growing number of older people as a major concern, a new global study finds. The analysis of surveys across 21 nations by the Pew Research Center is timely because it details some of the benefits of immigration as lawmakers in the U.S. debate an overhaul of immigration laws: higher population growth and a slower rate of population aging. The surveys found that people in nations where the population is aging less swiftly, such as the U.S., are less likely to be worried about
