The D’Souza Arrest: Obama

I’m no fan of Dinesh D’Souza, but this is ridiculous. Dinesh and I locked horns a few years back when he attacked me in his book The Enemy At Home, saying that books like mine should not be written. (Snip) I rehash all this to show the falsehood of the line that has been circulating around in the Leftist media ever since Dinesh D’Souza was indicted: that the only people who share D’Souza’s views are concerned about his indictment.

The sons, daughters and even grandchildren of the once pivotal figure in the North Korea regime were executed under orders from the country´s leader. Mr Jang, who was once the mentor to Mr Kim, was executed in a ´purge´ on December 12 2013 for alleged acts of "treachery". An anonymous source told South Korean news agency Yonhap that entire families closely related to Mr Jang were killed after his execution last month. The source said: "All relatives of Jang have been put to death, including even children. "Extensive executions have been carried out for relatives of Jang Song-thaek." The Yonhap report said that some

AUSTIN — It´s fair to examine the details of Sen. Wendy Davis´ life story, but some of her fiercest opponents are providing fodder to those who see a sexist edge to the scrutiny. “So Abortion Barbie had a Sugar Daddy Ken,” tweeted conservative blogger Erick Erickson about her second marriage to a former Fort Worth City Council member, whose partnership in her endeavors eased her financial path before they divorced.

The Sunday political shows are never at their worst than when they’re in advance of an event. Messieurs Gregory, Stephanopoulos, et al can postmortem the hell out of a debate or a gaffe or press conference or even a perennial event like the end of December. (So many chances for retrospection!) But previewing something like the State of the Union appears to give everybody gas. Thus the Sunday shows all spent far too much time yesterday pitching the question, “The state of the union is ______.” The responses were about as enlightening as you’d expect, and a couple of folks

Not to be outdone by other awards shows, the 56th Grammy Awards decided to put on a wedding ceremony for 33 "Same Love" couples. Performers Madonna, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, and Queen Latifah banded together to produce a wedding ceremony for the mixture of gay and straight couples, which included Ryan Lewis´ sister and her fiancé. Madonna hinted at this on the E! pre-show when she told Ryan Seacrest, "History is going to be made tonight... I want to be a part of that." Known for her bizarre stunts (the 2003 VMAs kiss with Brittney Spears, for example), it is

Virginia Democrat: Not Enough Young

Retiring Rep. Jim Moran (D., Va.) said Obamacare could become undone because not enough millenials are signing up for the exchanges, WAMU reports. While more than 40,000 Virginians signed up for health insurance last month, only 27 percent were part of the younger set the White House is depending on to fund the law, and Moran doesn’t expect those numbers to improve: “I’m afraid that the millennials, if you will, are less likely to sign up. I think they feel more independent, I think they feel a little more invulnerable than prior generations,” Moran says. “But I don’t think we’re going to

A thin-skinned amateur who has been in office six years and still can’t grasp how to do his job will stand before an even more thin-skinned Parliament of Whores and tell them he does not need them, while knowing he really does need them, while none of them truly want to be with each other, and all have lawy ers ready to go bow before the black robed masters

On January 24th, a Civitas Media internal memo leaked to the new media describing the newspaper conglomerate´s "attempt to build state-by-state databases that list those who have the right to carry a concealed weapon." Within 24 hours Civitas Media reversed course and now, on January 26th, says the idea never was going to happen to begin with. Buckeyefirearms.org first published the "internal propriety communication," which Civitas Media director of content Jim Lawitz "distributed to content editors, managers, and producers at [Civitas Media-owned] newspapers in 12 states." When President Obama steps to the podium in front of the Speaker’s chair Tuesday night, the speech he delivers will contain the most liberal promises and activist rhetoric of his presidency, progressives hope and Republicans worry. Liberals say both good policy and electoral logic dictate a sharp move left. They do not want to hear him seeking compromise ahead of midterm elections that are likely to be decided on turnout. November will hinge on which side best fires up its base. So progressives want Obama to beat the base drum. There is no louder stage than the State of the

Former Alabama quarterback A.J. McCarron, who is preparing for the NFL Draft, was watching the Grammys on Sunday and felt that the "really demonic" performances showed that "there is a lot of evil in the world." At the Grammys, Katy Perry dressed up as a witch and was "burned at the stake" in her act while gay couples were married to the song "same love." Though it was unclear what performance prompted the tweet, McCarron later re-tweeted a response in which one of his followers wrote, "I know right? I can only imagine what Katy´s Preacher Father is thinking."

For months, the White House and its allies mocked critics of Barack Obama´s leadership, arguing that no president has "Green Lantern" superhero powers. Now these same people are predicting that Obama can salvage his agenda by waving a magical "pen and phone." The contradiction illustrates how far partisans will go to defend a flailing presidency, grasping at slogans and insults as a growing majority of Americans tune out. We witnessed a similar drama under President Bush, who set a low bar for public approval that Obama is close to matching. More than that, Obama´s plan to exert executive branch authority, starting with

As President Obama goes to Capitol Hill for his State of the Union address he is telling the world he is fed up with Congress — the paralysis and the GOP obstruction — but his anger is secondary to signs that he is a demoralized lame duck. In his recent, lengthy interview with the New Yorker magazine, the president comes across as passive in the face of his difficulties with the hyper-partisan Congress. He is portrayed as a politician who dislikes mixing with members of Congress, twisting arms, offering favors or pulling federal aid to move his congressional agenda. The president all

Presidential administrations can get terribly insular, especially when things go poorly. Believe me, I worked in the Bush White House in the second term. People under stress inside a bubble are very bad at understanding their own predicament and doing something about it, and often they reach for ideas that are forms of the problem rather than solutions to it, and they just can’t see it even if everybody else can. This story in Sunday’s Washington Post on how team Obama plans to turn things around is a powerful exhibit of that pattern. The president and his advisors understand they are

The Republican National Committee, falling back on its default option of centralizing power while trampling over grassroots activists, may have made a terrible mistake last week in condensing its presidential-nominating process, with a plan to schedule the convention for no later than July 18, rather than late August, as in 2012. Front-running candidates with early access to big money will benefit, as will the entrenched consultants who bleed the party dry. Initial might, rather than staying power, will determine the victor, and the party could get stuck with a candidate whose flaws become manifest only after it’s too late for voters

The big story that’s simultaneously being spotlighted from the Vatican to the White House, from Oxfam to newly elected Mayor Bill de Blasio in New York City, is economic inequality and the purportedly overly-skewed and unjust distribution of wealth. “The human rights group Oxfam reported that the wealth of the world´s 85 richest people is equal to that of the poorer half of the world´s population,” reported Voice of America on January 20. In other words, the wealth of a little group of people who can easily fit into two Mercedes party buses is equal to the combined wealth of the 3.5
