Mexico City Bets On Tap
Water Law To Change Habit

MEXICO CITY -- "Drink the water." It´s a suggestion alien to Mexico City residents who have long shunned tap water in favor of the bottled kind and to the throngs of tourists who visit the city each year, bringing with them fears of "Montezuma´s Revenge." But a law recently approved by Mexico City´s legislators will require all restaurants to install filters, offering patrons free, apparently drinkable potable water that won´t lead to stomach problems and other ailments. "We need to create a culture of water consumption," said Dr. Jose Armando Ahued, health secretary for Mexico City. "We need to accept our water." Bad

Indiana State Police say the pileup on Interstate 94 Thursday afternoon involved about 15 semitrailers and about 15 passenger vehicles and pickup trucks. They say one injured person remained trapped in a vehicle Thursday evening, hours after the pileup began. The accident happened near Michigan City, which is about a 60-mile drive from Chicago. Police say Michigan City has provided two buses that are being used to warm people and transport the injured to hospitals.

BURBANK, Calif. – House Speaker John Boehner says he likes his life too much to run for president. Making his first appearance Thursday night on "The Tonight Show With Jay Leno," Boehner twice gave an emphatic "no," then repeated it, when Leno asked if he´d ever seek the nation´s highest office. Boehner told Leno he likes to play golf, cut his own grass, drink red wine and smoke cigarettes, and he´s "not giving that up to be the President of the United States." The line got a round of applause from the Burbank, Calif. audience. Boehner also got a laugh when

Camden — Gov. Chris Christie continued his campaign to reform the Camden school district at the Thomas H. Dudley Elementary School on Thursday, promoting the district´s most recent initiative: free dinner for Camden students. Joined by newly-appointed Camden superintendent of schools, Paymon Rouhanifard, and Mayor Dana Redd, many expected Christie to follow up on his comments during his State of the State address about lengthening school days and extending the school year. However, the governor and superintendent focused on the After School Dinner program implemented earlier this month, which gives students at six select schools in Camden a hot meal to

As House Republican leaders prepare an immigration proposal that could go much further towards amnesty than their prior public stances, conservative lawmakers are quietly plotting to push back. (snip) Officials close to the matter say conservative critics of Speaker John Boehner´s planned immigration push are working to issue their own rival immigration principles to vie with the document Boehner is drafting. “There is definitely a growing mood of confusion and aggravation among conservatives in the House over the immigration issue right now,” one House GOP aide said in an email to Breitbart News, adding that many on the right find

Conservative activist James O´Keefe is accusing New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo´s administration of targeting his group with document requests and a subpoena, claiming the Democratic governor´s recent comments critical of conservatives "aren´t simply words." O´Keefe, whose Project Veritas is behind a series of hidden-camera investigations against left-leaning groups and causes, made the claims on the heels of the controversy over a recent Cuomo interview. In it, Cuomo blasted "extreme conservatives who are right-to-life, pro-assault-weapon, anti-gay" and said they "have no place" in New York. He later walked back his remarks, and said they were being taken out of context in the

In that excerpt, Obama blamed Fox News and conservative talker Rush Limbaugh for the gridlock in Washington, D.C. Krauthammer noted Obama has “the commanding heights of the culture” in his corner and said it was unbecoming of the leader of the free world to complain on those grounds. “At least he is not blaming it on climate change or George W. Missed it by that much. That’s how the six gluees have to feel after such a mistake. The group thought they were attaching themselves to pumps at a gas station owned by a company called Total. They were upset after the company announced they would invest millions in shale oil and fracking. But there was a pretty big oops involved. Station manager Reezwan Patel told The Bolton News in Ruston Lane UK, “Total don’t own the station any more. It is owned by Certas Energy, but the signs haven’t changed yet.” “We had to close for six hours,” Patel grumbled.

Fixated as we Americans are on Canada’s three most attention-getting exports — polar vortexes, Alberta clippers and the antics of Toronto’s addled mayor — we’ve somewhat overlooked a major feature of Canada’s current relations with the United States: extreme annoyance. Last week, speaking to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Canada’s foreign minister calmly but pointedly complained that the United States owes Canada a response on the Keystone XL pipeline. “We can’t continue in this state of limbo,” he sort of complained, in what for a placid, imperturbable Canadian passes for an explosion of volcanic rage. Canadians may be preternaturally measured

Add this to the litany of scary but improbable things people are hearing could happen because of the new federal health-care law: After you die, the state could come after your house. The concern arises from a long-standing but little-known aspect of Medicaid, the state-federal program that provides health coverage to millions of low-income Americans. In certain cases, a state can recoup its medical costs by putting a claim on a deceased person’s assets. This is not an issue for people buying private coverage on online marketplaces. And experts say it is unlikely that the millions of people in more

The commissary agency currently operates 247 stores across the world. All but 24 rural stores would be closed under the proposed plan. The plan would cut the commissary agency’s $1.4 billion annual budget to $400 million. “If DeCA’s budget is cut to such a magnitude, it would ultimately require DeCA to close stores or change the way it delivers the commissary benefit,” a source with knowledge of the proposed cuts told Military.com. “But those options would mean military

The next presidential election might be months away, but the Republican National Committee is acting to cut the party’s primary season in half in order to regain control over the chaotic lead-up to the convention. If the five changes proposed by a subcommittee pass with a super majority during the RNC’s January meeting, the first four states — Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina and Nevada — would be permitted to hold their primaries in February of 2016, while the rest of the states would have to wait until Mar. 1, and would be barred from holding winner-take-all elections until Mar. 15.

Arizona´s controversial Sheriff Joe Arpaio announced this week he added $3.5 million to his campaign coffers last year – a personal best – as he hints he´s again considering a run for governor. The record haul was made possible mostly from out-of-state donors who supported the Maricopa County sheriff’s enforcement tactics. Critics of Arpaio tried unsuccessfully to force a recall election against him last year, a battle which his office claims cost him about $8 million. But as he builds his war chest back up, he´s vowing to run again, presumably for a seventh term but possibly for governor.

The anti-Republican media is working overtime to convince voters that the Republicans are wounded and in disarray. They are contorting themselves to keep the story about New Jersey Gov. Meanwhile, the media flatter the pointless gubernatorial campaign of Texas state Sen. Wendy Davis, a Democrat. But if you look
