Governor Andrew “Bull Connor” Cuomo

Get out of New York! That’s the message Empire State Governor Andrew Cuomo is sending to pro-life, pro-gun, pro-traditional marriage conservatives. The Albany Times-Union first highlighted remarks the governor made during an interview with Susan Arbetter on “The Capitol Pressroom.” He was talking about a division within the state’s Republican Party and compared it to what’s happening in Washington, D.C. “It’s a mirror of what’s going on in Washington,” he said. “The gridlock in Washington is less about Democrats and Republicans. It’s more about extreme Republicans versus moderate Republicans.” And then he told “extreme” Republicans where to go. “Who are they?” the governor asked.

Nearly 50 percent of black men and 40 percent of white men are arrested at least once on non-traffic-related crimes by the time they turn 23, according to a new study. One of the authors of the study published this month in the journal "Crime & Delinquency" said the statistics could be useful in shaping policy so that people aren´t haunted by arrests when they apply for jobs, schools or public housing. "Many, many people are involved with the criminal justice system at this level," said Shawn Bushway, a University at Albany criminologist. "And treating them all as if they´re hardened criminals

In the raft of recent retirement announcements on Capitol Hill, none may be more important than those of Reps. Tom Latham (R-Iowa) and George Miller (D-Calif.). The two couldn’t be more different. One is a quiet, conservative Midwesterner with a penchant for golf and cigarettes; the other a garrulous California liberal with a fiery streak. What Latham and Miller share is the ability to give wise counsel to the two most powerful figures in the House, Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) and Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.).Each is first among equals as a trusted confidant to his party’s leader. Our current president and his predecessor in the Oval Office are typically cast as opposites, antonyms, not just far apart on an ideological spectrum but cats of wholly different stripes. Barack Obama: lyrical, professorial. George Bush: allergic to any glimmer of intellectualism. Obama: head. Bush: gut. Obama: city. Bush: country. But as I read David Remnick’s widely discussed profile of Obama in this week’s New Yorker, I was struck by something that the two men have in common, an overlooked overlap that perhaps suggests what it now takes to get to the White House and why we wind up with

Houston - The Harris County District Attorney’s Office has plenty to say about President Barack Obama’s recent comments on the national marijuana debate. Obama told “The New Yorker” magazine that, quote, “I don’t think it is more dangerous than alcohol.” However, the president does say “the movement to legalize marijuana” raises questions about where to draw the line when it comes to other drugs. Harris County District Attorney Devon Anderson invited the president to come see the impact of marijuana in Texas, and criticized his comments saying, in part: “I adamantly disagree with the President.

The opening ceremony of each Olympics is a revealing window into the character and aspirations of the host country. (snip) We can expect something along the Chinese line from Russia in a couple of weeks, but suppose Chicago had been successful in its bid to host the 2016 summer games. What would an opening ceremony in President Obama’s America (and hometown) look like? Probably all too much like the British–another glimpse of the sun setting in the West: An opening dance number featuring Julia leading Pajama Boy around a cheery Organizing for Action office; an alternative lifestyles choir singing “We Are

Time Magazine’s current cover depicts a tiny man hanging onto the heel of a shoe that’s emerging from a pant-suit wearing leg. “Can Anyone Stop Hillary?” reads the accompanying text. Maybe, if the cover also showed her tripping over the Senate Intelligence Committee’s just-released report on the attack that killed four Americans in Benghazi, Libya, while she was secretary of state. If New Jersey Governor Chris Christie must answer for four days of traffic jams on roads leading to the George Washington Bridge, surely Clinton has the same obligation to address a deadly assault that the bipartisan committee found “preventable.”

PHILADELPHIA — The mystery surrounding a Marine’s missing heart has already drawn two nations into a Philadelphia federal court battle. Now, it also threatens to play a part in the confirmation of President Barack Obama’s pick to lead the State Department’s intelligence arm. Daniel Bennett Smith, poised to become the department’s assistant secretary for intelligence and research, was recently questioned about his role in the autopsy of Brian LaLoup, a Marine sergeant from Coatesville, Pa., whose heart disappeared after he killed himself while stationed in Athens, Greece, in 2012. At the time, Smith served as the United States’ ambassador to

President Barack Obama´s comment that marijuana is less dangerous than alcohol was a reckless statement that could encourage use of a harmful drug, Harris County District Attorney Devon Anderson said Monday. "I adamantly disagree with the president," Anderson said in a news release. "According to a 2012 Drug Use and Health survey, marijuana is the number one drug that citizens over the age of 12 are addicted to or abuse. The negative effects of marijuana use on a developing brain can be permanent, and our president is recklessly giving what amounts to parental permission to our most impressionable citizens to

MOSCOW — Russia´s counter-terrorism agency says it´s studying a video posted by an Islamic militant group that asserted responsibility for suicide bombings that killed 34 people last month and is threatening to strike the Winter Olympics in Sochi. Security experts say the Russians are right in taking the threat seriously. The video was posted online Sunday by a militant group in Dagestan, a predominantly Muslim republic in Russia´s volatile North Caucasus. Officials say it could take days to repair a massive sinkhole that has opened up in downtown Detroit. The sinkhole, which opened up Saturday just blocks away from the North American International Auto Show, is now about 14 feet deep, WJBK reports. Traffic in the area is being disrupted as crews work to fix the hole, which is 10 feet wide, according to WWJ-AM. When asked about the cause of the sinkhole, Michigan Department of Transportation spokeswoman Diane Cross said the city has “older substructures underneath the roadways.” “Age is always a factor

An HIV positive college student could have knowingly infected more than 30 people with the deadly virus while secretly filming their sex romps on his laptop, police said. Michael Johnson, 22, was charged with exposing sexual partners to HIV back in October but prosecutors just announced Thursday that a police investigation uncovered the incriminating videos, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported. "On that laptop were 32 videos that depicted different individuals engaged in sexual acts with Mr. Johnson," St. Charles County prosecutor Tim Lohmar told local station KMOV. ISTANBUL — The United Nations on Monday revoked an invitation to Iran to attend a crucial peace conference on Syria in Switzerland, culminating a day of chaotic international diplomacy that included loud U.S. objection to Iran’s participation and a threat by the Syrian opposition to boycott the talks. Under intense American pressure, U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon rescinded the invitation to Iran, issued only 24 hours earlier. The main Syrian opposition bloc almost immediately announced that it would join the talks, which are set to begin Wednesday. Secretary of State John F. Kerry personally lobbied Ban to rescind the invitation,

RUSH: The Obamacare enrollment numbers are totally faked. They don´t know how many people have signed up. They don´t know how many people have paid. The only thing they know is that four-out-of-five people that are in the system already are getting subsidies. That´s all they know. Yet ever since before the holidays, the media has been bragging and talking about how the website´s been fixed and people are signing up and like we got six million people have enrolled. We don´t know that because nobody can prove it. The numbers are fake. Here´s the latest on Obamacare from TheBlaze.com:

So the Al-Qaeda unit that did all the damage in Benghazi was the JV unit. Obama also said that he would not let his son, Trayvon Martin, play football -- while watching football, apparently. In an interview that runs the weekend of the NFL championship games, Obama said he would not let his son play the game. He doesn´t have one, of course. Wendy Davis, the Democratic state senator running for governor of Texas, swung back Monday at swirling questions about her personal life after a newspaper report suggested there were inconsistencies in the biography she’s shared on the stump. In a statement, Davis sought to explain the discrepancies, while also signaling that her Republican opponent, Greg Abbott, was behind the growing scrutiny. The Dallas Morning News piece over the weekend noted that Davis had been 21, not 19, by the time she got a divorce — despite statements to the contrary — and highlighted tension with an ex-husband, among other family drama.

Klang (Malaysia) - In recent weeks, Malaysian priest Lawrence Andrew has been burned in effigy, investigated for sedition and denounced by Muslims in a spiralling dispute over whether Malay-speaking Christians can use "Allah" to refer to their God. No one is more taken aback by this than Andrew, a bookish, cheerful 68-year-old Jesuit who has become a reluctant symbol for religious equality in the Muslim-majority nation. "I never asked for this," Andrew, an ethnic Indian, told AFP before recent Sunday services at his church in a scruffy section of the port city Klang. "It didn´t even cross my mind.

The European Space Agency received the all-clear message "Hello World!" from its Rosetta spacecraft some 800 million kilometers (500 million miles) away shortly after 7 p.m. (1800 GMT; 1 p.m. EST). Rosetta was put into hibernation in 2011 to conserve energy for its long journey to meet with comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko. If all goes as planned the probe will rendezvous with the comet in the coming months and drop a lander onto its icy surface
