RUSH: Wildebeests -- wildebeests. That´s what the Drive-By Media heard me say. No. I take it back. They did not hear me say it. They read in The Politico that I said it. Wildebeests. I compared the RINOs not defending Christie to wildebeests. They all found that amusing. JOHNNY DONOVAN: And now, from sunny south Florida, it´s Open Line Friday! RUSH: I sit here and honestly, folks, I´m surprised at the reaction on the Republican side to what is happening to Chris Christie. Bosses are more likely than workers to identify as Republican and conservative, according to analysis released by Pew Research Thursday. Pew Research surveyed 2,002 adults from Oct. 7-27 and found that bosses are more likely to identify as members of the Republican Party, with 53 percent of bosses saying “they are Republican or lean to the GOP.” Just over a third (34 percent) of bosses identify as members of the Democratic Party, while most workers (44 percent) identify as Democrats. Roughly four out of 10 or 43 percent of bosses (and 37 percent of workers) identify as conservatives, while 34

This is a blazing moment for American stoners. Colorado has just legalized the commercial production, sale, and recreational use of marijuana, while Washington State will begin its own pot liberalization initiative at the end of February. On Jan. 8, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said his state would join 20 others and the District of Columbia in allowing the drug for medical purposes. Libertarians and progressives are thrilled. Addiction specialists are anxious. And economists, well, they’re a little like undergrads lost in a bong-induced thought experiment: One moment the economics of pot seem beautifully elegant, then the real-world implications suddenly

MSNBC: December Jobs Report

MSNBC admitted that the December jobs report was dismal Friday. CNBC’s Michelle Caruso-Cabrera announced the newly released report number. Only 74,000 jobs were created in December, a number that fell significantly short of the 200,000 anticipated created jobs. Morning Joe host Joe Scarborough commented “That’s a horrific number” and said that the newly added jobs number is the lowest seen in years. Caruso-Cabrera confirmed Scarborough’s statement, saying that the newly added jobs number is in fact the lowest since January of 2011 and the number was “very, very bad.”

RUSH: All the media can´t wait to go destroy Chris Christie. What the people in the media don´t understand... Well, maybe they do and they´re just it is not taking the chance. What they don´t understand is that Chris Christie probably dealt himself the fatal blow by walking the boardwalk with Obama. My guess is that people inside the Beltway have long forgotten that and think that, oh, that´s gonna be such a distant memory. That´s not gonna hurt Christie by the time the 2016 primaries come around. And this is another example of how genuinely out of touch people inside the

Bjørn Lomborg of the Copenhagen Consensus on Human Challenges writes to correct an error in yesterday´s column analyzing his organization´s study of "gender equality" prepared by economist Joyce Jacobsen, The following passage, he notes, was mistaken: [The study] assumes that in a society with more traditional sex roles, women contribute nothing of value. Gross domestic product measures only commercial work, not unpaid domestic (in the sense of household) work. It doesn´t capture the reality that a traditional marriage--or, for that matter, its reverse, a union between a working woman and a "house husband"--is an economic unit to which the homemaking spouse

RUSH: The jobs number came out. And I´ll tell you, I have never seen anything like this, either. We now have 92 million Americans not working. We created the equivalent of 1,700 jobs per state in December. One of the highest employment months of the year. December´s hiring traditionally is so good that the experts in the Drive-By Media were expecting 196,000 jobs to be created or begun, recorded in December, and the number came in at 74,000 jobs. Many of the documents were given to the panel by an attorney for David Wildstein, a former top official of the Port of New Jersey and New Jersey, and include the e-mails that emerged on Wednesday revealing a top aide to Gov. Chris Christie was directly tied to the traffic-clogging closure of local access lanes leading to the bridge in Fort Lee. Democrats have sought for months to link the lane closures to the

Minneapolis — Hunkering down at home rather than going to work, canceling thousands of flights and repairing burst pipes from the Midwest to the Southeast has its price. By one estimate, about $5 billion. The country may be warming up from the polar vortex, but the bone-chilling cold, snow and ice that gripped much of the country — affecting about 200 million people — brought about the biggest economic disruption delivered by the weather since Superstorm Sandy in 2012, said Evan Gold, senior vice president at Planalytics, a business weather intelligence company in suburban Philadelphia. The Christie scandal is an odd thing. Outside the peculiar context of Christie’s presidential ambitions, the idea that this should be front-page news across the country is somewhat baffling. An interesting debate has been brewing these past few days over what it means to be a public intellectual—an honorific job description which I can imagine my intelligent but practical mother rolling her eyes at. Ta-Nehisi Coates at The Atlantic wrote a piece on Monday dubbing MSNBC host and political scientist Melissa Harris-Perry "the smartest nerd in the room" and "America´s foremost public intellectual." Coates is a frequent scribbler of divisive pieces which dubiously impute racist motivations to white society at large—sort of a black, male Joan Walsh, if you will. So it was no surprise when he accused Dylan Byers, media

Justice Sonia Sotomayor´s recent ruling, issuing a stay on the fines for the Little Sisters of the Poor, struck some people in violent ways. One blogger, Jamie Stiehm writing for U.S. News, seems to think that Sotomayor outed herself as that most crass and small minded of people: a Catholic! This was certainly not a predictable outcome in the minds of those progressives who celebrated the elevation of the first "wise Latina" to the highest court in the land. She was supposed to stay on the reservation, of course, voting reliably to uphold the foundations of liberal orthodoxy, whenever they

John Kerry is heading back to the Middle East next week to continue attempts to broker a peace deal between Palestinians and Israelis. His self-imposed goal is to reach an agreement by April. If opinions in Israeli and Arab media are any indication, however, not many think he can find success where others have failed. "The mission John Kerry has taken upon himself reminds one of a boy going out into the garden with a kite. The intention is good, the equipment suitable, but the wind refuses to lift the kite into the air," writes Nahum Barnea in Israel´s Yedioth Ahronoth.

Target customers whose information -- name, addresses, phone numbers and email addresses -- was stolen need not have shopped at the retailer´s stores during the busy holiday shopping season, a spokeswoman confirmed Friday. The information, said Target spokeswoman Molly Snyder, was collected during the "course of normal business," and could include online shopping. Friday´s latest disclosure by the Minneapolis-based retailer that hackers made away with the data of 70 million additional Target customers shows that the data breach late last year was far larger and broader than previously thought. The U.S. military has deployed a small number of uniformed trainers and advisers to the failed state of Somalia for the first time since 1993, when two helicopters were shot down and 18 Americans were killed in the failed “Black Hawk Down” operation. A cell of U.S. military personnel has been stationed in the Somali capital of Mogadishu since last fall to advise and coordinate operations with African troops fighting to wrest control of the country from the al-Shabab militia, an Islamist group whose leaders have professed loyalty to al-Qaeda, according to three U.S. military officials.

A spokesman for the EU said "very good" progress was made "on all the pertinent issues", but added that results of the talks still

Developments in the scandal involving the September closing of toll lanes from Fort Lee, New Jersey onto the George Washington Bridge exploded in a major way Wednesday with the release of emails and texts implicating top deputies to Governor Chris Christie (R-NJ) in a political retribution scheme. The news also presented a challenge for the three cable news networks, which had to make choices about how, and what, to cover. Here’s how the three cable news networks, Fox News, MSNBC, and CNN, handled those choices: (Video clips, charts)
