McCain Lays Al-Qaida Surge
In Iraq At Obama´s Feet

Forces allied with al-Qaida are battling to retake two major cities in Iraq´s Sunni-dominated Anbar province: Ramadi, the capital of the province, and Fallujah, the city where U.S. troops prevailed after fighting two major battles. There have been no American forces in Iraq since 2011, when President Obama ordered the last troops to leave. Now the man who lost the presidential race to Obama five years ago is pointing a finger at the president for al-Qaida´s resurgence. Some 1,300 U.S. troops died in the area during the Iraq War, and Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) says the troops that fought there

A major conceit of the left is that opposing viewpoints aren´t just wrong, they are evil or, at least, morally suspect. Leftists reveal much about themselves when they argue that a conservative´s position is driven only by self-interest or greed. Rather than argue intellectually against a conservative view, they need to discredit it, make it illegitimate and beneath public debate. So too is political speech to argue conservative values. The left has an enormous financial infrastructure to further its views, but conservatives doing the same are using "dark money." The Huffington Post, which keeps hyperbole permanently stuck on 11, spooks its

Former Defense Secretary Robert Gates´ criticism of his former boss President Barack Obama on Afghanistan doesn´t align with the commander-in-chief´s views, the White House said Wednesday. In his memoir, which arrived at the White House on Tuesday evening, Gates states Obama "doesn´t believe in his own strategy" in Afghanistan. "For him, it´s all about getting out," the former defense chief writes. Jay Carney, the White House press secretary, argued Obama had helped "refocus" troops and commanders on the United States´ mission in the country. Gates´ tell-all rattles White House, Congress "The President devised the mission and has great faith in the troops who carry out

As a baby boomer, I remember the health care my parents introduced me to in the years after World War II. Our family was of very modest means and my parents had no insurance, so my mom would take me to my doctor´s little office attached to his house on his working farm and she´d pay him cash when we walked out the door. What happened between was the important part. My doc had a nurse and she´d welcome us and ask the reason for our visit. She always smiled and made me feel relaxed as she pricked my finger to take

SAN FRANCISCO - Police are seeking two suspects who pepper-sprayed a TV news crew and stole their camera in San Francisco’s Mission District on Monday evening. The robbery was reported at about 6:25 p.m., reports CBS San Francsico. The crew from Spanish-language station Univision 14, which consisted of four men between the ages of 28 and 61, was breaking down their equipment after filming in the area when two male suspects believed to be in their late teens ran up from behind and pepper-sprayed them, according to police. The suspects then took the camera and fled west toward San Jose Avenue,

National Security: President Obama´s former defense secretary paints the commander in chief as an uncertain trumpet in a conflict he called the "right war" — and who lost interest in a war he sent troops to fight and die in. Robert Gates doesn´t call Obama, Vice President Joe Biden and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton the Three Blind Mice or Three Stooges defense and foreign policy, but he might as well have. In his upcoming book, "Duty, Memoirs of a Secretary at War," he makes it clear that under this administration competence, not politics, stopped at the water´s edge. As reported

Macy´s said Wednesday it plans to lay off about 2,500 employees and close some stores as part of a cost reduction plan. The retailer said it will combine its Midwest and North regions and reallocate within its regional divisions to streamline its operations. It is cutting front-end employees at some stores, although it did not specify where or how many. It will also reduce staff behind the scenes, including some merchandise planning positions and central office roles. Beyond the 2,500 that are expected to be laid off, other associates will be given extra duties or transferred, Macy´s said. Some open

Michelle Obama and Beyoncé:

Michelle Obama and Beyoncé Knowles are both powerful women married to powerful men. They are friends. Their families have spent time together. They praise each other publicly and support each other’s projects. Few would be surprised if Knowles is in town for the first lady’s 50th birthday party later this month. (Beyoncé’s husband, Jay-Z, will be in concert at Verizon Center on Jan. 16, the day before Obama’s birthday.) As their friendship has developed, these two women have — wittingly or not — become markers of 21st-century feminism. “They are incredibly competent women who have not just flourishing careers but

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie said Wednesday he was “outraged” after learning — he said for the first time — that his administration purposely caused a traffic jam that clogged streets in a town at the foot of the George Washington Bridge into New York City as political payback against a mayor refuse to endorse him for re-election. Emails unearthed by NorthJersey.com contradicted Mr. Christie’s prior claims that his administration had nothing to do with the unfolding bridge scandal, and sent the tough-talking Republican into damage control. “What I’ve seen today for the first time is unacceptable,” he said in a late-afternoon

The Justice Department put an avowed political supporter of President Obama in charge of the criminal probe into the IRS’s targeting of tea party groups, according to top Republicans who said Wednesday that the move has ruined the entire investigation. House Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa and subcommittee Chairman Jim Jordan said they’ve discovered the head of the probe is Barbara Kay Bosserman, a trial lawyer in the Justice Department who donated more than $6,000 to Mr. Obama’s 2008 and 2012 campaigns, as well as several hundred dollars to the national Democratic Party. “The department has created a startling conflict of interest,”

A prisoner that was released from Guantanamo Bay is now the leader of a terror group and new reports reveal that he led his men to participate in the attack on the American consulate in Benghazi. The Washington Post reports that it is still unclear whether or not Abu Sufian bin Qumu was the one to plan the attack or if he just happened to be in Benghazi when they decided to join in the raid. Qumu, 54, is now the head of a group called Ansar al-Sharia which is based out of Darnah, a town several hours from the Libyan capital

It’s already been three months since the Obama administration debuted their draft proposal detailing what is, for all currently practicable purposes, a ban on the construction of coal-fired power plants (and even that reveal was the result of still another months-long delay as the administration struggled to formulate the rules in a way that could both survive the inevitable legal challenges while not restricting greenhouse-gas emissions so stringently as to disqualify even the construction of new natural gas plants — overzealous, much?). The rule finally hit the pages of the Federal Register today, opening up the formal 60-day period for

Have you heard the story of the residents of Riverton, Wyo.? One day they were Wyomingans, the next they were members of the Wind River tribes — after the Environmental Protection Agency declared the town part of the Wind River Indian Reservation, undoing a 1905 law passed by Congress and angering state officials. The surprise decision was made by officials of the EPA, the Department of Interior, and Department of Justice early last month, and has invoked the ire of Gov. New Jersey´s Gov. Chris Christie has been tagged as a favorite, if not the favorite, for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination. His landslide re-election victory in 2013, a quarter-century after the Garden State last voted for a Republican presidential candidate, made him look formidable. But today a top political aide was implicated in a scandal that began late last summer. Although no evidence has emerged that the governor himself was involved, the story is certain to raise questions about his leadership. After donating $2.5 million to the Democratic Senate Majority PAC, America’s favorite Democrat-turned-Republican-turned-independent, former New York City mayor Mike Bloomberg, is signaling that his great crusade against guns is running out of steam. The need for new gun laws that was so pressing in 2013, and that Bloomberg and his organization, Mayors Against Illegal Handguns, lobbied so hard for, is apparently no longer so acute. When he was not belittling or cajoling gun control’s foes, Bloomberg spent the better part of 2013 agitating for stricter gun laws. It has been my contention that President Obama’s deal with Iran on nuclear weapons had little to do with stopping Iran from obtaining them, and much to do with his desire to achieve detente with the mullah-run Islamist regime. As I put it here: Obama isn’t motivated, as Israel and Saudi Arabia are, by a strong desire to keep Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons. That’s not the purpose of this deal. If it were, Obama would have held out for far more than what the mullahs gave him.

If you know Lindzen only from the way his opponents characterize him—variously, a liar, a lunatic, a charlatan, a denier, a shyster, a crazy person, corrupt—you might expect a spittle-flecked, wild-eyed loon.
