RUSH: Today it´s the 50th anniversary of the War on Poverty. Did you know that? So today we´re celebrating 50 years of defeat in the War on Poverty. But it´s a valiant effort that we continue to make, 50 years of defeat in the War on Poverty. Robert Rector has rerun the numbers. The amount of money that we have spent in income redistribution is stunning. I have that number. I have to make my own number here. Take a break. We´ll be back and continue in mere moments. Don´t go away. BREAK TRANSCRIPT RUSH: Robert Rector, Heritage Foundation, the expert on

PolitiFact has crowned the promoter in chief´s sound bite for Obamacare the "Lie of the Year" for 2013: "If you like your health care plan, you can keep it." And let me make a prediction that among his top 10 falsehood contenders for 2014 will be a reversal of what he emphatically stated back on Sept. 9, 2009: "Under our (health care reform) plan, no federal dollars will be used to fund abortions." Indeed, just a few months later, he reiterated to ABC News: "I laid out a very simple principle, which is this is a health care bill, not

At Democrats’ Request, Even

After donating $2.5 million to the Democratic Senate Majority PAC, America’s favorite Democrat-turned-Republican-turned-independent, former New York City mayor Mike Bloomberg, is signaling that his great crusade against guns is running out of steam. The need for new gun laws that was so pressing in 2013, and that Bloomberg and his organization, Mayors Against Illegal Handguns, lobbied so hard for, is apparently no longer so acute. When he was not belittling or cajoling gun control’s foes, Bloomberg spent the better part of 2013 agitating for stricter gun laws. As recently as December 14, the first anniversary of the massacre in Newtown, both

Sears Holdings Corp. is set to close three more Kmart stores in Wisconsin, eliminating more than 300 jobs. The Kmart stores in Hales Corners and Greenfield are scheduled to shut down in mid-April, along with a store in Portage, Howard Riefs, a spokesman for Sears Holdings, said Monday. Sears Holdings is the parent company of Kmart. Liquidation sales will begin this Sunday at the Kmart stores at 5600 S. 108th St. in Hales Corners and 4601 S. 27th St. in Greenfield, Riefs said. The closing of the Portage Kmart will follow a similar schedule. "These stores are being closed because

It has been my contention that President Obama’s deal with Iran on nuclear weapons had little to do with stopping Iran from obtaining them, and much to do with his desire to achieve detente with the mullah-run Islamist regime. As I put it here: Obama isn’t motivated, as Israel and Saudi Arabia are, by a strong desire to keep Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons. That’s not the purpose of this deal. If it were, Obama would have held out for far more than what the mullahs gave him.

When you first meet Richard Lindzen, the Alfred P. Sloan professor of meteorology at MIT, senior fellow at the Cato Institute, leading climate “skeptic,” and all-around scourge of James Hansen, Bill McKibben, Al Gore, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), and sundry other climate “alarmists,” as Lindzen calls them, you may find yourself a bit surprised. If you know Lindzen only from the way his opponents characterize him—variously, a liar, a lunatic, a charlatan, a denier, a shyster, a crazy person, corrupt—you might expect a spittle-flecked, wild-eyed loon. But in person, Lindzen cuts a rather different figure. With his

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has proposed reducing the amount of ethanol and other biofuels that must be mixed into the nation’s fuel supply. Fuel blenders would be required to use 15.21 billion gallons of biofuel in 2014, down from 16.55 billion gallons last year. That’s a good sign that the EPA finally recognizes the federal mandate for ethanol is creating economic distortions. But the mandate should be cut much more significantly, with the ultimate goal that it be eliminated. The Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 set benchmarks for a huge increase in the production of domestic biofuels,

Holder’s remarks accompanied the release Wednesday of new federal guidance from the departments of Justice and Education pressing schools to adopt disciplinary policies that are “fair, nondiscriminatory, and effective.” The guidance lays out the parameters of

Gonorrhea and syphilis are on the rise in the U.S., mostly in men who have sex with men, a trend the government said is linked to inadequate testing among people stymied by homophobia and limited access to health care. The rate of new gonorrhea cases rose 4 percent in 2012 from the year before, while syphilis jumped 11 percent, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said today in a report. Rates for chlamydia, the most common of the bacterial sexually transmitted diseases, gained less than 1 percent.
