Exposing the world´s great lie about
ObamaCare and socialized medicine

In health care, 2013 was a year of great irony. In the United States, the Obama administration bullheadedly forged ahead in advancing the most controversial and expensive law in recent memory, the deceptively named Affordable Care Act. The law, opposed by a clear and consistent majority of citizens, immediately caused millions of Americans to lose their health insurance along with their choice of doctor and hospital, and millions more to pay far higher insurance premiums. While the focus has been on the embarrassing roll-out that, at a minimum, demonstrated both the incompetence and the poor judgment of this administration,

The daughter of a Jewish classmate of Anne Frank rescued from the horrors of Bergen Belsen concentration camp has met the British officer who saved her mother´s life. Grateful Elizabeth Kahn, 59, flew to Israel to meet Major Leonard Berney, 93, from Plymouth, Devon, and present him with a special silver platter paid for by the family in recognition of his heroics. Jewish Leonard, of the British 11th Armoured division, was one of the first army officers through the gates of Belsen when the camp was liberated on April 15, 1945. It is estimated that 50,000 inmates died in the notorious northwest German

Seven dangerous Al-Qaeda suspects are to be freed from Government curfews and able to walk the streets within days, it has emerged. The men, some of whom are suspected of plotting to kill thousands on transatlantic airliners, will no longer be bound by electronic tags or curfew restrictions after the terrorism prevention orders are lifted. The measures were introduced in 2012 to replace Labour government rules which, according to the Liberal Democrats, undermined the suspects´ human rights. However they only last two years unless the government can prove the suspects have engaged in ´new´ terrorist-related activity. Officials say such proof is hard if

A Georgia couple was shocked and disgusted to find a racial slur scrawled on a valet ticket after a night out at a local restaurant. After Candea and Sam Aarons had dinner at the Spondivits restaurant in East Point, Ga., on New Year’s Day, they found that the valet tag still affixed to their key chain had the phrase “jungle fever” written on one side. The phrase is a racial slur for an interracial couple. Candea Aaron said she initially didn’t notice anything unusual in their interaction with the valet, but in previous visits the tag was always removed from their key before they received it back. “I’ve never had their [valet] tag left

On Sunday, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney joined Chris Wallace on Fox News Sunday for a wide-ranging interview about a number of political issues that dominated the landscape following the close of the 2012 election cycle. Romney dug into the Affordable Care Act’s roll-out, the contraception mandate which he signed into law in Massachusetts, and the Winter Olympics in Russia. Asked what “bothers” him the most about the ACA roll-out, Romney said that the onerous coverage requirements frustrated him the most. “it’s not just that the president tells people that they have to buy health insurance,” Romney said, “it’s that

HONOLULU - President Barack Obama is going to give his wife the birthday present that many parents can only dream of - time off, alone, without the children. The White House said on Saturday first lady Michelle Obama would stay in Hawaii, where the family has been on vacation for the last two weeks, rather than return home with her husband and their two girls. "As part of her birthday gift from the president, the first lady will remain in Hawaii to spend time with friends ahead of her upcoming 50th birthday," a White House official said. The president was leaving Honolulu late

On Saturday, MSNBC host Melissa Harris-Perry offered an emotional, tearful apology for a New Year’s weekend segment that used Kieran Romney‘s appearance in a Romney family photo as a setup for jokes about diversity, and became a full-blown media conflagration. On Sunday, former Governor Mitt Romney appeared on Fox News Sunday to address the controversy, which host Chris Wallace called “a disgraceful political attack on a baby.” Last Sunday, Melissa Harris-Perry moderated a panel that set upon a Romney family photo as the pivot point for jokes about Republican lack of diversity. Harris-Perry’s own remarks were relatively innocuous, but panelist

Roma gangs are using children to sneak through metal security bars on windows and plunder properties on one of Britain’s most exclusive streets. [Snip] In one case, a child’s footprint was found on an inside window ledge. It seems the youngster was passed through narrow bars to prise open an unlocked sash window. Hundreds of pounds and a television were stolen. Roma immigrants have also been seen rifling through bin bags for bank statements so they can sell credit and debit card information to identity thieves. Thousands of Romanians and Bulgarians are expected to head here in the coming months, after

Is Barack Obama entirely lacking in self-awareness, or does he simply think that his intended audience will believe anything he says? Maybe both. Otherwise it is hard to explain away the obvgious irony inherent in a president from Hawaii on a long winter vacation in Hawaii blasting his political opponents for going "home for the holidays." Dave Urbanski writes in The Blaze: While President Barack Obama continued what the New York Times called a "real and rare vacation in Hawaii," he used his Weekly Address to accuse Republicans in Congress of going home for the holidays while less-fortunate Americans suffer.

The agency responsible for implementing ObamaCare will release a report on Monday showing slow growth in national healthcare spending. The Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services (CMS) will brief reporters at the National Press Club on what the Obama administration has touted as a trend of slower healthcare spending growth since the implementation of the Affordable Care Act. The CMS data are considered the standard for determining U.S. healthcare spending statistics. Earlier this year, the White House released a report that showed healthcare spending has grown at the slowest rate on record and crediting the Affordable Care Act. After 14 months, one Pittsburgh businessman still wonders: If everyone like him had voted in 2012, how differently might 2013 have turned out? The lifelong Democrat, who runs a five-man machine shop, regrets not voting for president in 2012. He admits President Barack Obama´s assault on Mitt Romney´s character cast just enough doubt in his mind that he believed the Republican nominee would favor Wall Street over Main Street, put Washington into political deadlock and keep the economy stubbornly at a standstill. He also believed he could keep his health-care plan — the one he liked — under Obama. “For me, the class-warfare slogans

The president will have has hands full: Right off the bat, he´ll be faced with questions about the rollout of ObamaCare and a major address on the NSA in the middle of January. He’ll also be making a big push to extend federal unemployment benefits as the White House seeks to make income inequality a major issue in this year’s midterm elections. President Obama’s promise to be the most transparent administration in history is proving to be true with regard to the recent appointment of John Podesta as his high profile congressional circumvention strategist. Podesta’s belief in government by fiat is clear. As he wrote in a 2010 Center for American Progress report, “[executive power] presents a real opportunity for the Obama administration to turn its focus away from a divided Congress and the unappetizing process of making legislative sausage.” Amidst scandals and a disastrous ObamaCare rollout, Politico writer Glenn Thrush reported that White House insiders told him Podesta’s hiring “represents the clearest

More than 100,000 Americans who applied for insurance through HealthCare.gov and were told they are eligible for Medicaid or the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) remain unenrolled because of lingering software defects in the federal online marketplace, according to federal and state health officials. To try to provide coverage to these people before they seek medical care, the Obama administration has launched a barrage of phone calls in recent days in 21 states, advising those who applied that the quickest route into the programs is to start over at their state’s Medicaid agency. State officials, meanwhile, are racing to cope in various

The Church of England has been accused of "dumbing down" the baptism service by changing its wording so parents and godparents no longer have to "repent sins" and "reject the devil". A trial of the new wording, aimed at making it easier to understand, will last in parishes until Easter. The former bishop of Rochester Michael Nazir-Ali, writing in the Mail on Sunday, branded the change part of the "constant dumbing down of Christian teaching" rather than making an effort to explain the meaning of baptism. In the original version, the vicar asks: "Do you reject the devil and all

PEARL HARBOR, Hawaii - President Obama and daughters Sasha and Malia have departed Hawaii after a 15-day family vacation for the holidays. The president and his daughters took off for Washington aboard Air Force One on Saturday night. Obama left Hawaii after a final low-key day spent mostly on the eastern side of the island. He played golf, hung out in his vacation home with his family and ate dinner at a popular steakhouse near a beachside park. After dinner, the family drove to Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam. Obama and his daughters greeted people gathered behind a rope line to watch them depart.

Edward Snowden has started a critical debate about the legality and the effectiveness of the N.S.A.’s practice of collecting unlimited records of telephone calls made to, from, and within the United States. Last month, two federal judges came to opposing conclusions about these issues. On December 16th, Judge Richard J. Leon, in Washington, D.C., ruled that the indiscriminate hoarding violates the Fourth Amendment right to privacy and its prohibition of unreasonable searches. Two weeks later, in New York, Judge William H. Pauley III ruled that the metadata-collection program was lawful and effective. Judge Pauley invoked the example of Khalid al-Mihdhar, a

Nowadays on New Year´s Eve I´m enveloped by two separate annual rituals. First, there´s a sense of dread I experience as to what bad-taste joke will be told by a network host before the ball drops. Second, I take stock of what events will be celebrated in the upcoming year. Mercifully this year I missed the first, but on the second the realization hit that this will be the 40th anniversary of the CBS Radio Mystery Theatrer (yes, that CBS), which, amazingly, handled topics as abortion, homosexuality, communism, (Islamic!) terrorism, witchcraft and Christianity with such wisdom that I still don´t

While members of Congress ended 2013 congratulating themselves for passing a budget, the media missed the fact that the agreement doesn´t actually avoid a government shutdown. The deal reached by Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) and Sen. Patty Murray (D-WA) provides simply a blueprint for government spending. Congress must still pass legislation detailing specific spending before January 15, when government´s spending authority expires. Government still faces a potential shutdown in a little over a week. The budget agreement passed by Congress in the closing days of last year provides what is called the "top-Line" number, setting the overall level of discretionary spending.
