A leading Conservative has warned that council taxpayers face rising costs from the influx of Romanian and Bulgarian immigrants set to start tomorrow - and claims that Roma are already causing trouble by begging aggressively and defecating in public. Philippa Roe, leader of Westminster City Council, said that local authorities had ´no idea´ how many Eastern Europeans would come to Britain after immigration restrictions are lifted on January 1. And a police commissioner in the Midlands revealed that more crimes are committed by Romanians than by any other group of foreign nationals in his area even before the rules have changed.

NEW YORK - Planning to use your new Obamacare insurance benefits early in the new year? If you don´t have your brand spanking new ID card, you´d better bring along your wallet. Insurers and health care providers are bracing for some chaos at the start of 2014 when the newly insured begin to use their Obamacare health coverage. Because of the repeated, last-minute deadline extensions, some applicants´ enrollments may be incomplete in insurers´ systems on Jan. 1. This is particularly true of those who wait until after the first of the year to pay. Many insurers are giving consumers until

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers insisted Tuesday that he “really, really likes women.” The three-time Pro Bowler was asked to address rumours his former roommate, Kevin Lanflisi, was actually his one-time lover. “I’m not gay,” Rodgers told ESPN Milwaukee, before reiterating his attraction to women. “That’s all I can say about that.” Multiple gossip sites attempted to connect the dots, kicking off a social media firestorm which led to Rodgers, 30, addressing the reports. “There’s always going to be silly stuff out there in the media,” he told ESPN. Readers can decide for themselves exactly how silly the speculation

How much do you need to know about a subject before expressing a strong opinion during a panel on MSNBC? Apparently very little, as Washington Post columnist Jonathan Capehart took part in a Monday afternoon discussion on the future of the Washington Redskins National Football League team since coach Mike Shanahan had just been fired. Kristen Welker -- fill-in host for that weekday´s edition of Andrea Mitchell Reports -- asked: “Are the Redskins stronger moving forward without Shanahan?” Capehart replied: “You’re asking the wrong guy here. I don’t know anything about football.” Instead, he turned to a liberal talking

MSNBC’s Melissa Harris-Perry and her panel of Dean Obeidallah and Pia Glenn have taken a considerable amount of flak for their poking fun at a photograph of Mitt Romney‘s adopted black grandson, but they have one defender working at a rival network: Fox’s Alan Colmes. For his Tuesday afternoon blog post, Colmes made his beliefs clear in the headline: “MSNBC Panel Was Mockinig [sic] Republicans, Not Mitt Romney’s Black Grandchild”. “Melissa Harris-Perry is apologizing for something that she didn’t do wrong,” he wrote. “A photo of the Romney family with a black baby on Mitt’s knee was the subject of

Appearing on MSNBC on Tuesday, White House health care adviser Phil Schiliro asserted that the White House never had a target number of Affordable Care Act enrollees. The widely circulated figure of 7 million – a figure which has been cited and repeated regularly by the press and members of the administration, was never their number, Schiliro asserted. “That was never our target number,” he insisted. “That was a target that was put out by the Congressional Budget Office and has become the accepted number.” He should have informed Health and Human Services Sec. Kathleen Sebelius of this development.

EUGENE, Ore. - Someone carved an obscenity into the plaque honoring President Barack Obama´s 2009 Nobel Peace Prize at a park honoring all of America´s winners of the award. The vandalism to the Nobel Peace Park in Alton Baker Park will cost $700 to repair. Richard Zucker with the City of Eugene said the vandalism isn´t just about the money. "I know this is politically involved, but this is a place that´s supposed to unite everyone," he said. "It´s for meditation, reflection. It´s no place for crass, political statements." The plaque has been removed while crews work to replace it.

Beyoncé´s outrageously successful year may have left the musical diva feeling godly. While visiting Miami´s South Beach, Queen Bey posted several Instagram photos, with one standing out among the rest. The 32-year-old singer sat centered in front of a painting that resembled Leonardo DaVinci´s "The Last Supper" depicting Jesus´ last meal with his disciples before the cruxifiction. Sitting directly in front of Jesus at the center of the table, the "Bow Down" singer can be seen wearing a tight green pencil skirt and bustier as she looks over her shoulder and stares into the distance. HONOLULU - State insurance officials have approved rate increases for Hawaii Medical Service Association and Kaiser Permanente Hawaii health plans that were expected to be canceled as President Barack Obama´s federal health insurance overhaul takes effect. The Honolulu Star-Advertiser reported Tuesday the state Insurance Division approved increases of 9.2 percent for 11,000 individual plans and 5 percent for 26,300 small business plans administered by Kaiser. HMSA will be allowed to increase rates on 14,300 individual plans by 7.5 percent. HMSA increased small business rates by 6.8 percent for 118,000 members earlier this year. Happy New Year to Daily Telegraph readers. I am sure 2014 will be a pivotal year in British politics, and I suggest this for a number of reasons. From today 29 million people from Bulgaria and Romania have untrammelled access to Britain and our labour market. We shall learn very soon that our EU membership and adherence to EU free movement means free housing, free healthcare and free access to the British benefits system for every EU citizen who wishes to come here. That´s 365 marathons, or more than 15,000 kilometres. With no day off. About 3pm on Tuesday, barring a catastrophe, they will achieve their goal, jogging triumphantly up St Kilda Road to their starting point, Federation Square.

The Department of Health and Human Services is in mid-victory-lap over its enrollment of an estimated 2.1 million Americans into Obamacare insurance plans, a figure claimed in a blog post Tuesday by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. But as many as half of those customers have yet to make a payment, a new report suggests. The Wall Street Journal interviewed Mark Waterstraat, the chief strategy officer at a firm that processes billings for insurers. He said that only about 50 percent of enrollees in 17 states have paid their bills for the first month´s premium. That statistic, if it were

A Republican member of Congress slammed the Obama administration Monday for creating five new national monuments when the US federal government is struggling under the weight of a mandated austerity plan. When the so-called budget sequester, a trigger mechanism built into the failed 2012 congressional budget talks, kicked in, most federal agencies were forced into across-the-board budget cuts. This includes the Department of the Interior, whose National Park Service maintains and operates national parks and monuments. Public sector budget revenues fell 1.2 percent in real terms during the first 11 months of 2013, compared to the January-November period last year, the Finance Secretariat said. Oil revenues fell as a result of a drop in the average price of Mexico´s crude exports, lower oil and gas production, and a stronger peso, the secretariat said in a report.
