Do Atheists Exist?

For people who like church except for the parts about God, a British couple have bodied forth a new denomination that cheerfully excludes him, raising the volume on the question “What is atheism?” several decibels overnight. The Sunday Assembly, a “godless congregation” founded in East London last January by standup comedians Sanderson Jones and Pippa Evans, now boasts affiliates in Brighton, Bristol, Oxford, Canberra, Melbourne, New York, and Portland, Ore. On September 21, it announced a “global missionary tour”: This past fall, interested individuals in 22 cities across the Anglosphere held Sunday Assembly meet-ups. Right on schedule, the New York Times has published a 7,500-word account of the Sept. 11, 2012, attack that all but ignores Secretary of State Hillary Clinton´s role and quotes a terrorist saying a supposedly anti-Islam video insulting the Prophet Muhammad "might well have justified" the killing of four Americans. With their hero, President Obama, flagging badly and in jeopardy of becoming a lame duck even before the mid-term congressional elections, the piece states that "months of investigation by The New York Times, centered on extensive interviews with Libyans in Benghazi who had direct knowledge of the attack there and

I used to be an agnostic-atheist. Now atheists make me want to be religious. I hate their disrespect for others´ beliefs. It makes me want to embrace the Lord. But I don´t. Because it´s not in my genetics. At the same time, hating religion is not in my DNA, either. But hating the disrespectful is instinctual for me. That´s why I hate atheists who want to do away with Christmas. And I´m not even Christian. Atheists are doing themselves a disservice. They are alienating their own breed. I am moving out of the stable of doubt. I am embracing religions that I

Two days after President Barack Obama signed a budget compromise that slashed pension benefits for military veterans, retired Marine Jessie Jane Duff blasted Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) for his "outrageous attitude" toward the sacrifices those in the armed forces have made. Appearing on Fox & Friends on Saturday, Jessie Jane Duff, who is at the E7 level, said Ryan, who brokered the deal with Sen. Patty Murray (D-WI), does not realize that many active duty military personnel go back to civilian life "broke" and "without a job" and have difficulty getting on equal footing with their "civilian counterparts." The Minneapolis Star Tribune investigates independent political spending over the last few election cycles. The results are stark, but won’t surprise anyone who has been paying attention: A Star Tribune analysis of campaign finance records found that just three dozen individuals or entities have contributed more than $27 million to political action and independent expenditure committees over the past three election cycles. The analysis shows those donations heavily favored Democrats. Unless that trend is reversed, Republicans could find themselves at a disadvantage heading into the 2014 elections…. No kidding. Rep. Darrell Issa on Sunday stood by claims that a group affiliated with the terrorist organization al Qaeda was involved in the 2012 attack on the American consulate in Benghazi. "It was accurate," Issa said on NBC´s Meet the Press. "There was a group that was involved that claims an affiliation with al Qaeda." The comments by Issa, the Republican chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee and one of the most outspoken critics of the White House´s handling of the attack, came after an investigative New York Times report concluded that the raid was conducted by local

Hundreds of pregnant foreigners are flying to Britain just days before they give birth to receive free care on the NHS. A government report found that immigration officials at one airport stopped more than 300 such mothers-to-be over two years. Most of the women had to be admitted and allowed to give birth on the NHS, the report found, because their pregnancies were too advanced for them to fly home. Airlines typically do not carry women more than 36 weeks pregnant. However, the women boarded flights in their home countries with forged doctors’ notes concealing the length of their pregnancies.

The best news from this year’s Obama Hawaiian vacation is that the Obama family did not bother to go to church on Christmas Day. The fact that Barack ignored church service on the day the world celebrates the Birthday of Jesus should come as good news to Christians because it’s a sure sign that whatever Obama is rooted in, it is not the Almighty. According to yesterday’s New York Times headline: ‘As the Obamas Celebrate Christmas, Rituals of Faith Become Less Visible’. Worship of the Almighty is written off as “rituals of faith” by the NYT. He socked it to her. Eliot Spitzer lusted after violence, a former hooker says in a new tell-all book — revealing in graphic detail how the love gov pinned her to a bed inside a posh, Murray Hill apartment and then gripped her by the neck until she feared for her safety. The violence was scripted by Spitzer, who wanted his hooker to follow a role-play dialogue in which she would pretend she had just taken a self-defense class. The kinky politician would then pretend to test her skills by announcing, “Well, then, let’s see if you learned anything,”

On Oct. 30, as President Obama was under fire for the botched rollout of his signature health care law, he visited Boston´s Faneuil Hall. It was in that hall in 2006 that then-Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, with a smiling Ted Kennedy by his side, signed a sweeping health care overhaul into law that would eventually become the model for Obamacare. As with Obamacare, the Massachusetts program (also known as Romneycare), expanded Medicaid, mandated that individuals purchase government-approved coverage, and provided subsidies to individuals to purchase government-designed insurance plans on a government-run exchange. In his October remarks, Obama used the Massachusetts

In June 1967, Israeli paratroopers entered Jerusalem´s Old City after Israel´s miraculous victory in the Six-Day War. The Old City had been under Jordanian control for nineteen years, an era of wanton destruction of synagogues and of ethnic cleansing of all Jews from the Old City. The paratroopers made their prayerful way to the Temple Mount, the holiest piece of ground in all Judaism, site of the First and Second Great Temples and, by tradition, the ark itself. Three paratroopers climbed to the top of the Dome of The Rock (built atop the former Second Temple) and unfurled the Israeli

Mike Castle in 2010), and last month´s race in Virginia (more below). All probable GOP pick-ups. All lost opportunities due to primary challenge or third party candidacy. A factoid from Virginia: The petitions that helped the Libertarian gubernatorial candidate get on the ballot (and draw votes from Republican Ken Cuccinelli) were paid for by an Obama campaign bundler. 2.) WASHINGTON— It was a moment for Barack Obama to savor. His second inaugural address over, Obama paused as he strode from the podium last January, turning back for one last glance across the expanse of the National Mall, where a supportive throng stood in the winter chill to witness the launch of his new term. "I want to take a look, one more time," Obama said quietly. "I´m not going to see this again." There was so much Obama could not — or did not — see then, as he opened his second term with a confident call to arms

Israel has shelled Lebanon after two rockets landed in northern Israel, its military says. Israel´s army said its tanks fired three artillery shells into southern Lebanon targeting the area from where the Katyusha-style rockets were fired. The rockets landed in a field west of Kyriat Shmona, causing no casualties or damage, said Israeli army radio. Border tensions increased two weeks ago when Israel shot two Lebanese troops after an Israeli soldier was killed. There has been sporadic cross-border violence since 2006, when Israel and the Lebanese Shia militant group Hezbollah fought a month-long war. But Hezbollah, which has been pre-occupied by the conflict in Syria,

A&E capitulated to the force of public opinion. A New York Times investigation has found no evidence to support claims al-Qaeda or any other international terrorist organization had links to the 2012 storming of the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya. The six-part report published Saturday instead blamed the poorly-planned attack on local extremists outraged by an American-made video mocking Islam. The Times refutes claims made by many Republicans that al-Qaeda was involved in the attack despite Obama administration assertions to the contrary. ‘Extensive interviews with Libyans in Benghazi who had direct knowledge of the attack there and its context, turned up no evidence that Al Qaeda or other

Al-Qaeda had no direct involvement in the September 2012 attack on the US consulate in the Libyan city of Benghazi, according to a New York Times investigation. The US ambassador to Libya, Chris Stevens, was killed when gunmen stormed the compound and set it on fire. Some US Republicans accuse the Obama administration of failing to admit the involvement of terrorist groups. But the New York Times (NYT) says a local Islamist militia leader was key. The paper bases its report on months of interviews with local residents who have extensive knowledge of the events of 11 September 2012 and American officials linked to

The UK must reform its welfare system to make it less easy for foreigners to exploit while the NHS needs to levy and collect payments to end ´health tourism.´ An ICM/Sunday Telegraph poll today confirms that the vast majority of Britons are concerned about the ending of restrictions on Bulgarian and Romanian immigration on January 1. In fact, the concern is nearly universal. Some 72 percent of all those surveyed were against lifting the restrictions--even if it means flouting EU law. Importantly, the respondents were not against immigration in principle or welcoming Romanians or Bulgarians to Britain in particular. A
