"I don´t have time to think about a false controversy," National Security Adviser Susan Rice told CBS´ "60 Minutes" in an interview that aired Sunday. Rice was talking about the September 11, 2012 terror attack in Benghazi, Libya that killed four Americans, including the U.S. Ambassador Christopher Stevens, and her insistence five days later -- on all five Sunday talk shows -- that the attack was a spontaneous event arising from a little-known anti-Muslim video. "In the midst of all of the swirl about things like talking points, the administration´s been working very, very hard across the globe to review our security

A top economic adviser to New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie challenged President Obama´s assertion that inequality is the "defining challenge of our time" in an op-ed published in the Wall Street Journal on Monday, writing that "like so many of his other pronouncements, the assumptions behind his defining challenge are misleading." Robert Grady, a managing director at the private equity fund Cheyenne Capital Fund and the chairman of Christie´s Council of Economic Advisers, also sketched out an alternative economic agenda to the one Obama mentioned in his Dec. 4 speech on the economy and inequality at an event in Washington

Spanish police say a burglar has helped them arrest a soccer coach in southern Spain who they believe sexually abused some boys he trained. Police said the burglar, who hid his identity from the police, called to say that he had found videotapes during a robbery showing the abuse. He said he would leave the evidence under a parked car. The burglar put three tapes in a brown envelope, hid them under a parked car. Inside the envelope, police found a note with the home address of the suspected paedophile and a message from the burglar: “I’ve had the misfortune that these tapes

Most people do not know that most of the men of Brigade 2506 were captured and sentenced to prison in Cuba. They were eventually released 50 years ago today: "In the days before Christmas 50 years ago this weekend, 1,113 Bay of Pigs fighters captured by Fidel Castro´s forces and imprisoned for 20 months were finally released to a heroes´ welcome in Miami. At midnight Monday, the official deadline arrives for Americans to sign up through the new federal health insurance exchange for health plans that begin Jan. 1. But, without any public announcement, Obama administration officials have changed the rules so that people will have an extra day to enroll, according to two individuals with knowledge of the switch. Over the weekend, government officials and outside IT contractors working on the online marketplace’s computer system made a software change that automatically gives people a Jan. 1 start date for their new coverage as long as they enroll by 11:59 p.m. on Christmas

When the A&E / Duck Dynasty brouhaha erupted a few days ago, this gay author´s first response was: I don´t view the Robertson men as "hot" sexually. That would never cross my mind, for a multitude of reasons. But I sure do find them to be smoking hot in a much more important way: their humanity. This very public conflict cannot be reduced to first amendment rights. It is about how we view and treat each other as human beings. Writing on his blog at The Dish, Andrew Sullivan had this to say about one of the Bible-based quotes from

President Barack Obama’s days-old Christmas vacation in Hawaii will not be the jolliest if CNN has anything to say about it. On Monday, CNN/ORC released new polling data showing that the Affordable Care Act has reached a record low approval rating in that survey. The anchors of CNN’s New Day added salt to that wound in a segment about those poll numbers on Monday by debating the politics of a delay of the individual mandate. A new survey found that 62 percent of those surveyed told pollsters they did not approve of the ACA while just 35 percent expressed approval.

Washington has become the Scrooge that ruins Christmas for those of us involved in public policy. Instead of being a quiet period to commemorate the birth of Christ, enjoy time with our families, and to pleasantly work to deal with end-of-year demands in business, the politicians in Washington have turned the Christmas holidays into a time to upend the Constitution, pass deplorable legislation, and leak stories designed to disappear as most Americans focus on things other than politics. True to this, our out of control president recently rewrote Obamacare for the 14th time by eviscerating, through sheer fiat, the individual

The Pentagon´s top civilian says it´s time to tame burgeoning military personnel costs, but he´s facing a test of wills with the nation´s powerful veterans groups, which want no cut in their benefits.Veterans groups are fighting curbs in annual pension increases for military retirees under age 62 that are part of the new budget deal passed by Congress last week and awaiting President Barack Obama´s signature. After a barrage of protests from the military community, lawmakers said they´ll review the cut next year and possibly reverse it. But Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel said Thursday that reform of military compensation can´t

A 35-year-old threw his three-year-old son to his death from the roof of a 52-story skyscraper and then jumped killing himself, after a judge ordered him to hand over the boy to his estranged wife. The killer dad has been identified as Dmitriy Kanarikov, a systems analyst from Brooklyn. His son Kirill plunged 46 stories after being pushed from a ledge on the roof of the building. He landed on a sixth floor landing before crashing down onto a John Jay College building next door to the highrise. He was alive when paramedics arrived on scene, but died minutes later

Kid Rock has a message for the cultural police who want to stop people from speaking their mind--or their faith. And it´s more than merely Merry Christmas. The rocker spoke out via his official web site on this week´s suspension of Duck Dynasty mainstay Phil Robertson. The singer´s subversive battle cry is much more than a defense of Robertson´s right to express his Christian beliefs. It´s a slam against the thought police mentality which he says has a choke hold on society.

Until recently, I had never seen A&E’s hit series Duck Dynasty. Given their long beards and “Sharp Dressed Man” opening theme song, I had mistakenly assumed it to be a reality show about ZZ Top. Judging from the headlines, however, I am in a minority. According to A&E, the series is the highest-rated nonfiction program in cable history. The series focuses on a Louisiana family, the Robertsons, who have made a fortune manufacturing and selling products marketed to duck hunters. Pro-God and guns, the Robertsons make no bones about what they believe. They are unashamedly Christian, are seen attending church in several episodes, and have openly indicated that they see the show as a vehiclewith religious tolerance.

House Budget Committee chairman Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) has doubled down on his move to cut pensions for military veterans in a USA Today op-ed published Sunday.{SNIP} In fact, the deal raises the deficit by at least $15.5 billion because of a series of gimmicks that Ryan and Murray employed in the accounting of the deal -- namely, double counting of savings like the tactic which was employed in Obamacare, and the failure to include an estimate of the interest on the borrowed money for the first couple of years of increased spending. These are only a few among a

If you can believe the mainstream media, exhaustion trailed Obama all the way to Hawaii where he is taking a 17-day timeout in sunshine happy Lei Land. Right at holiday time, a Muslim "charity" in Toronto has started a highly offensive advertising campaign in the Toronto subway declaring Jesus is no God. Just for a micro-second, imagine what hell would break loose if a Christian group on the eve of Ramadan (or heck, any day of the year), sponsored subway ads declaring Mohammed was no prophet. Actually, that´s a trick question because the Toronto Transit Commission would never permit such an ad to be posted. Rachel Ehrenfeld reports: "Is Jesus God?" A billboard posted at Dundas Subway Station in Toronto asks. The screaming poster´s words answer: "Bible & Quran

If he´d wanted to make news, he would not have scheduled it on short notice and on a Friday, when politicians release news they want ignored. Obama has broken so many promises, claimed ignorance of so many of his responsibilities and underlings´ failures and violated protocols, not to mention the Constitution. Washington--A weary Barack Obama, eyelids heavy, predicted Friday that the restorative power of sleep and the sunshine of his native Hawaii would restore his wilting fortunes after a bleak year. The US president began 2013 with a soaring inaugural address laying out an ambitious second term agenda, sensing a mandate for liberal transformation despite a joyless re-election campaign. He ended it with a ponderous press conference, deflecting dire assessments of his prospects and gingerly testing an optimistic message for 2014: "We are poised to do really good things." Second term presidencies are always tough, as exhaustion, unmet promises and fading

The most underreported foreign news story of 2013 is the pogrom against Christians in Islamic countries. It is doubtful that there is a close second place finisher. The story is gruesome and the rationale for both the killing and the silence about it lies in a mainstream interpretation of Islam – one that is far more prevalent in the Middle East than the West will admit. The pogrom is the inexorable result of Islamic teaching and Western indulgence. It is, after all, directed at Christians because there are no more Jews left to persecute. The latter have long made their exodus
