The people in charge of the Obamacare rollout have may their difficult position even worse. The root of the latest self-inflicted catastrophe is their determination to forge ahead with an flawed product by simply papering over the cracks. These bands aids eventually come off and they find themselves worse off than before. Having attained the dubious achievement of canceling millions of policies in America, including practically all the health care insurance in Guam without providing a working replacement system, the administration has decided to temporarily allow people to buy the “bare-bones” insurance policies formerly allowed only to people under 30.

Duck Hunt: The Phil Robertson ´GQ´

By extrapolating quotes and just plain old lying, the elite media are using a GQ interview with "Duck Dynasty" patriarch Phil Robertson as an excuse to go on an anti-Christian rampage that they hope will further their longstanding goal of toxifying Biblical beliefs as bigoted and anti-gay. If you read the full GQ interview, though, it is glaringly obvious that Robertson is anti-sin, not anti-gay, and that he believes we should all love one another. To begin with, the Duck Commander did not single out homosexual behavior; he listed over a half-dozen sins, including adultery, greed, bestiality, drunkenness, idolatry, etc.

During President Barack Obama’s final press conference of 2013, the president took a question from CNN’s Brianna Keilar about how much progress has been made toward enacting the second term agenda he outlined in January’s inaugural address. At the end of that question, however, the tone of the press conference shifted from adversarial to adorable when Obama was asked about something more “personal.” “If I may just, quickly, on a more personal note, what is your New Year’s resolution,” Keiler asked amid polite laughs from the White House press corps. “My New Year’s resolution is to be nicer to the White House

Two members of the Duck Dynasty reality show received a surprise request during April´s White House Correspondents Dinner. Jennifer Wishon of the CBN Beltway Buzz blog says she attended the Dinner along with Willie and Korie Robertson from the hit A&E show. Wishon says the pair were called away by a White House representative at one point during the night and didn´t reappear for 45 minutes. Turns out they were getting a personal greeting from President Barack Obama. Wow, that´s great!" I said. "What did you talk to him about?" "He said he loves the show and watches it on

The political world’s odd couple — conservative Mary Matalin and liberal James Carville — have talked plenty about politics but their latest book — “Love & War: Twenty Years, Three Presidents, Two Daughters and One Louisiana Home” — focuses on how they resolve their differences at home, from moving to New Orleans to sex to cats to Carville’s frustrating ADHD. “I knew Mary was nuts a long time ago,” Carville writes. “But I loved her in spite of it — and probably because of it.” Later he writes, “I’d rather stay happily married than pick a fight with my wife

Ally Financial Inc. agreed Friday to pay $98 million to settle claims that the Detroit-based lender discriminated against more than 235,000 minority auto buyers, marking the federal government’s largest auto loan discrimination settlement in history. In a 13-page complaint filed in U.S. District Court in Detroit, the Justice Department said since April 2011, about 100,000 African-American car buyers, 125,000 Hispanic borrowers and 10,000 Asian/Pacific Islander borrowers paid Ally higher interest rates than white borrowers “because of their race or national origin and not based on their credit worthiness or other objective criteria related to borrower risk.”

Last week, following the public apology of an English comedian and the arrest of a fellow British subject both for making somewhat feeble Mandela gags, I noted that supposedly free societies were increasingly perilous places for those who make an infelicitous remark. So let’s pick up where we left off: Here are two jokes one can no longer tell on American television. But you can still find them in the archives, out on the edge of town, in Sub-Basement Level 12 of the ever-expanding Smithsonian Mausoleum of the Unsayable. A bill introduced on Thursday in the House of Representatives would remove pension cuts to military retirees in the budget agreement passed this week and offset the fiscal difference by closing of a loophole that allows illegal immigrants to receive tax credits. Reps. Mike Fitzpatrick (R., Pa.) and Martha Roby (R., Ala.) introduced H.R. 3788 to replace a controversial provision in the bipartisan budget deal that hits military retirees with a 1 percent decrease in their annual cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) but left civilian federal retirees untouched. Disabled military retirees are not exempt from the cuts that could cost servicemembers as

Roll Back: Europe is thought of as a collection of welfare states loved by some and detested by others. That lineup, though, is headed for change: The Dutch are wisely dismantling the system that they can no longer sustain. The Netherlands has been known for its generous welfare system. Three decades ago, when the U.S. was spending about 22% of its GDP on entitlement programs, the Dutch were spending more than 40%. The Financial Times named the Dutch system a "comprehensive egalitarian social model" built in the 1960s and 1970s. The University of London´s History in Focus says that "with the sole

A federal judge in Texas has issued a searing indictment of the Obama administration’s immigration policy. He accuses the government of “completing the criminal mission” of human traffickers “who are violating the border security of the United States” and assisting a “criminal conspiracy in achieving its illegal goals.” The judge calls the administration’s behavior “dangerous and unconscionable” and says that “DHS should cease telling the citizens of the United States that it is enforcing our border security laws because it is clearly not. Even worse, it is helping those who violate these laws.” On December 13, federal district court Judge Andrew

Border: A federal judge finds that the Department of Homeland Security, instead of arresting cartel members and the clients who pay them to smuggle children into the U.S., helps the drug lords complete the transactions. Former DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano once proclaimed the U.S. border to be as secure as it has ever been. Yet her department has been found by Judge Andrew S. Hanen of the U.S. District Court of the Southern District of Texas to have actively undermined that security by enabling drug cartels engaged in the lucrative smuggling of children. A key House Republican said that if Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) secures several legislative wins early next year, an immigration bill could clear the lower chamber by next summer. Rep. Tom Cole (R-Okla.) was careful to say that the battles ahead for Congress and the White House — such as raising the debt ceiling — could shape whether the House acts on immigration reform in early 2014. Cole serves as a deputy whip on Boehner´s leadership team. With the caveat that the House will not vote on the Senate-passed bill, Cole envisions a situation where Boehner allows a vote on

It seems Nancy Pelosi was wrong when she said "we have to pass" ObamaCare to "find out what´s in it." No one may ever know because the White House keeps treating the Affordable Care Act´s text as a mere suggestion subject to day-to-day revision. Its latest political retrofit is the most brazen: President Obama is partly suspending the individual mandate. The White House argued at the Supreme Court that the insurance-purchase mandate was not only constitutional but essential to the law´s success, while refusing Republican demands to delay or repeal it. But late on Thursday, with only four days to go

The president of the United States just held his final press conference of 2013 (all the “tough,” “worst year” talk is best left to the Friday afternoon before Christmas). During it, President Obama got a pressing question from NBC’s Chuck Todd on his mess of a health-care law, and tried to talk his way out of it by blaming contractors and bad I.T. decisions of White House years past. But as we know, there are substantive problems with the law way beyond a bad internet rollout. Meanwhile, this week, the Obama administration was struck a substantial blow by a federal

Last Friday, an opinion by Texas federal judge Andrew Hanen opened a window onto the sheer lawlessness of the Obama administration–in particular, the Department of Homeland Security. The case was United States of America v. Mirtha Veronica Nava-Martinez. (snip) The child’s mother, an illegal alien, paid a smuggler $8,500 to bring the girl from El Salvador to Virginia, but the smuggler was caught by DHS agents at a border checkpoint near Brownsville, Texas. Good, you might think: the Obama administration says it wants secure borders, so the human trafficker was turned back. Right? Wrong.

Health Reform: The latest panicky "fix" from the White House grants the millions whose policies were canceled a "hardship" exemption from ObamaCare. If the law´s such a hardship, why must the rest of us suffer with it? After getting caught in his blatant "keep your plan" lie, President Obama first tried to dismiss the problem, saying the cancellations affected only a tiny percentage of Americans. When that didn´t work, he said he´d waive enforcement of part of the law so these people could keep their plans, if their state regulators allowed it. It was a phony fix designed only to spare Obama

President Obama wants House Speaker John Boehner to take the lead on immigration reform, even if that means a piecemeal approach, believing that a more comprehensive White House plan would die in the GOP-controlled Congress, according to sources informed of the strategy. “The president is giving Boehner wide latitude,” said a business leader who has attended several White House meetings where the president´s team has laid out their strategy. “They believe that the only chance of passage in the House is to let Boehner write the plan and for the White House to offer support from the sidelines.” The White House

Meanwhile, in the House, “Speaker John Boehner also has moved to undermine the power of the tea party.” McConnell is especially putting the strong arm

As we look back on 2013, it will likely be remembered as the year the rubber began hitting the road with regards to Obamacare. Salt Lake City - A federal judge on Friday struck down Utah´s Amendment 3 — which defines marriage as the union of one man and one woman — finding that it violates rights to due process and equal protection as set forth in the 14th Amendment. Within hours, Salt Lake County District Attorney Sim Gill confirmed that, in light of the ruling, he saw no reason to prohibit Salt Lake County Clerk Sherrie Swensen from issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples.
