Court Rejects Obama Admin
Executive Privilege Arguments
Washington Free Beacon, by CJ Ciaramella    Original Article

A federal judge Tuesday rejected the Obama administration’s sweeping claims of executive privilege and ordered the disclosure of a foreign aid directive signed by President Barack Obama in 2010 but never publicly released. U.S. District Court Judge Ellen Huvelle ruled the presidential order is not within the bounds of executive privilege and called the government’s arguments in favor of secrecy “troubling.” “The government appears to adopt the cavalier attitude that the President should be permitted to convey orders throughout the Executive Branch without public oversight … to engage in what is in effect governance by ‘secret law,’” Huvelle said. An Obamacare Milestone

This week Obamacare passed an unflattering milestone. As of today, the Obama administration has spent longer botching the implementation of Obamacare than the Roosevelt and Truman administrations spent fighting and winning the Second World War. America’s involvement in World War II began on December 7, 1941, with the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. It ended 1,365 days later on September 2, 1945, with the surrender ceremony aboard the U.S.S. Missouri anchored in Tokyo Bay. President Obama signed the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act into law on March 23, 2010. Today, December 18, 2013, marks the 1,366th day of post-enactment Obamacare implementation.

President Obama has responded to the ObamaCare debacle by bringing in Beltway liberal mastermind John Podesta as a senior West Wing hand, and he promptly announced his arrival by likening House Republicans to "a cult worthy of Jonestown" in an interview with Politico. The states running their own insurance exchanges are exacting more accountability for their ObamaCare failures. Enrollment and technical dysfunctions and security breaches akin to the 36 federal exchanges continue to beset Minnesota´s operation, called MNsure. On Tuesday, April Todd-Malmlov, the exchange´s executive director since 2011, resigned under political duress. The state´s problems are severe—4,478 have selected a plan so

"His personal views in no way reflect those of A+E Networks, who have always been strong supporters and champions of the LGBT community. The network has placed Phil under hiatus from filming indefinitely." The news comes after Robertson compared homosexuality to bestiality in an interview

A South Jersey billboard proclaiming “Keep the Saturn in Saturnalia” was torched Tuesday night by two unidentified men who fled in a pickup truck after only charring the sign’s steel support beams. The billboard, erected as a counterpoint to a “Keep Christ in Christmas” banner in downtown Pitman, refers to the ancient pagan celebration of the Winter Solstice, held in mid-December to honor the Roman god, Saturn.(snip) Several protesters descended on the billboard over the weekend. A man dressed in a full red Santa suit stood sentry in the cold for hours, holding a placard that referenced “Obamass.” On Sunday, a family

A judge has dismissed a $1 million lawsuit against Walmart regarding a 2010 incident in the chain’s Washington Township store that led a customer to claim “severe and disabling emotional and physical harm” after racist comments were broadcast over the store’s public address system. On March 14, 2010, a 16-year-old customer picked up the microphone to the PA system and announced “Attention Walmart customers: all black people must leave the store.” Donnell Battie, who was shopping at the store at the time, filed a suit against the store in 2012 claiming the incident caused emotional damage and harm resulting in depression, anxiety,

A group lobbying to restore the Muslim Brotherhood to power in Cairo held a Dec. 5 briefing in the high-security Cannon Office Building on Capitol Hill. Freedom: It´s bad enough that the president´s health insurance takeover costs more, breaks his pledge of letting you keep your plan and diminishes choice. It actually restricts your travels too. ´We have never had to put a wall up to keep our people in." Those words from President John F. Kennedy in June 1963, standing at the Berlin Wall, neatly illustrated the moral superiority of the free West over the Soviet bloc. But Americans are now about to find themselves grappling with their own bureaucratic Berlin Wall. Four out of the 15 chiefs of Obamacare insurance marketplaces run by individual states and the District of Columbia have either quit or gone on leave since the botched Oct. 1 launches of their health exchanges. An unknown number of Target Corp customers shopping over the busy Black Friday weekend had their credit card information stolen in an "extensive" breach of the U.S. retailer´s security, Dow Jones reported on Wednesday, citing people familiar with the matter. The theft may have occurred through software installed at machines customers use to swipe their cards when paying, Dow Jones cited one of the unidentified sources as saying. The Black Friday weekend after Thanksgiving is among the busiest shopping periods of the year. Target did not respond to requests for comment.

This has been a fascinating morning. You’d think a leading news story of the day would be: Cardinal Dolan wins in court against the Obama administration, given the Eastern court in New York yesterday issued a permanent injunction against the Department of Health and Human Services abortion-drug, contraception, sterilization mandate. Wait. Didn’t the president and vice president of the United States tell us the Catholics were all cool with this mandate, that there was no longer a controversy, that their religious liberty had been satisfactorily accommodated? Even before that, didn’t the president of the United States

Seventy-two percent of Americans say big government is a greater threat to the U.S. in the future than is big business or big labor, a record high in the nearly 50-year history of this question. The prior high for big government was 65% in 1999 and 2000. Big government has always topped big business and big labor, including in the initial asking in 1965, but just 35% named it at that time. The latest update comes from a Dec. 5-8 poll. Gallup has documented a steady increase in concern about big government since 2009, rising from 55% in March 2009 to 64% in November 2011 and 72% today.

Nine out of 10 Americans do Christmas and three-quarters believe in the biblical account of Jesus‘ birth — but only a little more than half actually regard the holiday primarily as a religious celebration. More than one-third say it’s more a cultural holiday, a new poll from Pew Research’s Religion & Public Life Policy found. The poll also found that generational differences in how Christmas is celebrated abound. Younger adults generally see the holiday through less religious lens than older Americans. And those under the age of 30 are far less likely to attend a religious service as part of the holiday
