North Korea‘s cherub tyrant Kim Jong Un startled the outside world this week by having a top regime official, who also happens to be his uncle, dragged from a public meeting and later executed. A creepy statement from North Korea’s official news agency accuses Jang Song Thaek of numerous crimes, including plotting against the regime and leading “a dissolute and depraved life” that included womanizing and gambling. One of the giveaways, according to the statement, was that at an ecstatic Workers Party of Korea meeting, Jang “behaved so arrogantly and insolently as unwillingly standing up from his seat and half-heartedly clapped

Paul Ryan Takes a Step

Paul Ryan's presidential prospects may have dimmed this week, but his future on Capitol Hill has never looked brighter. The budget compromise he struck with Sen. Patty Murray, which passed the House on a lopsided 332-94 vote Thursday, had conservative activists and outside groups howling. That might one day curb Republican enthusiasm for Paul Ryan the presidential candidate. But inside the dome, overwhelming support for Paul Ryan the policymaker—even from those voting against his proposal—armed him with a major legislative victory and a reputation as a bipartisan consensus-builder. That means bigger things

Robert A. Levinson was an overweight bear of a man who once worked as an F.B.I. agent and desperately wanted to recapture the life of international intrigue he relished as an expert on Russian organized crime. But as he sat in a hotel room in Geneva in early 2007, he was anxious about a secret mission he had planned to Iran. “I guess as I approach my fifty-ninth birthday on the 10th of March, and after having done quite a few other crazy things in my life,” he wrote in an email to a friend, “I am questioning just why, at this point, with seven kids and a great wife, why would I put myself in such jeopardy.” He would like some assurance,

The Center for American Progress is a left-wing organization that is closely associated with the Obama administration. Its principal product is a web site called Think Progress. Think Progress is part of the internet cesspool that modern liberalism has become. Written by hack left-wing bloggers, it is bitterly hostile to free enterprise. It is a low-rent site that traffics in the most absurd smears and conspiracy theories. Many have wondered for some years who finances far-left web sites like Think Progress. As of today, we know at least part of the answer, as CAP released its corporate donor list for the first time. CAP says that individuals and foundations

Let me begin with a categorical statement that, given current events and recent political history, can be easily defended: Barack Hussein Obama is a willful, indoctrinated child of the Left with strong Islamic sympathies who is not fit to govern. Indeed, he would not be fit to govern Lower Slobovia, let alone the United States of America. Obama is a historic disaster of the first magnitude and, if not restrained, he will see to the irrevocable decline of the country which foolishly elected him, leaving the world on the brink of a conflict — or in the midst of one — whose repercussions cannot be underestimated. A Christmas gift for atheists --
five reasons why God exists

For atheists, Christmas is a religious sham. For if God does not exist, then obviously Jesus’ birth cannot represent the incarnation of God in human history, which Christians celebrate at this time of year. However, most atheists, in my experience, have no good reasons for their disbelief. Rather they’ve learned to simply repeat the slogan, “There’s no good evidence for God’s existence!” In the case of a Christian who has no good reasons for what he believes, this slogan serves as an effective conversation-stopper. But if we have good reasons for our beliefs, then this slogan serves rather as a conversation-starter.

Ever wonder why James Bond prefers his martinis shaken, not stirred? Three U.K. doctors set out to find out whether 007 developed the preference because of an alcohol-induced tremor in his hands, and published their findings in the British Medical Journal´s annual tongue-in-cheek December edition. "Ideally, vodka martinis should be stirred, not shaken," Dr. Patrick Davies, a pediatric intensive care specialist at Nottingham University Hospitals, and his colleagues, wrote in the paper. "That Bond would make such an elementary mistake in his preferences seemed incongruous with his otherwise impeccable mastery of culinary etiquette." So they spent seven months reading all

HO CHI MINH CITY, Vietnam -- Forty-four years after first setting foot in Vietnam as a young naval officer, John Kerry has returned once more, this time as America´s top diplomat. Making his 14th trip to the southeast Asian nation since the end of the war that profoundly influenced his political career and foreign policy thinking, Kerry arrived in Ho Chi Minh City on Saturday. Kerry wants to bolster the remarkable rapprochement with the former U.S. enemy that he encouraged and helped engineer as a senator in the 1990s. The Vietnam war ended in 1975 and led to a U.S.

WASHINGTON -- In the hours before President Barack Obama arrived at a Johannesburg soccer stadium to honor Nelson Mandela, the White House staff was in the dark on key details. Where would the president and Michelle Obama sit? When was Obama supposed to speak? Who else would be on stage when he did? The result was an array of confusion and security risks that typically would not be tolerated by the Secret Service in the United States, underscoring how the agency is often at the mercy of foreign governments to make arrangements when the president travels overseas. A round of successful deal-making on Capitol Hill has altered the political dynamic in Washington, raising hopes within the Obama administration that stalled second-term priorities such as immigration might still have a chance at success. The key movement has come in the House, where members of both parties overwhelmingly approved a two-year budget deal and where Speaker John A. The developments heighten the possibility of progress on issues such as immigration, which has been at the top of President Obama’s agenda since he won more than 70

A group of 10 U.S. Senators introduced a bipartisan bill on Thursday to eliminate the corn ethanol mandate, arguing that current law raises the cost of food and animal feed and damages the environment. The bill, introduced by Dianne Feinstein, a California Democrat; Tom Coburn, an Oklahoma Republican; and eight cosponsors, faces an uphill battle as many lawmakers from agricultural states support the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS)that dictates that rising volumes of ethanol made from grains, including corn, be blended into motor fuel.

Steve Harvey got the chance for a one-on-one interview the President of the United States this week, a rare opportunity for a journalist let alone a comedian. Harvey made one item clear up front about his exclusive chat--he didn´t ask President Barack Obama any political questions. With that messy business out of the way, Harvey threw Obama a series of holiday-themed softballs according to the comedian´s recap of their Q&A. Later, Harvey described the interview to the press and even defended Obama from taking a "selfie" at a great leader´s memorial service, an action so tacky even Jon Stewart said it

Six generations after The New York Sun — in the most famous newspaper editorial ever issued — reassured Miss O’Hanlon, age eight, that, “Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus,” we are called upon again. This time it’s not Miss O’Hanlon’s “little friends,” as she put it in her letter to the Sun, who are insisting there is no Santa. It’s a professor, at Harvard University no less, who has been consulted by Politico, which is reporting that the teacher is denying the existence of Saint Nick. #GetCovered? More like #GetReal. When the White House posted a tweet about Obamacare featuring the president holding a sign, it probably didn´t expect the kind of reaction it got. The message, which was posted last night on the official White House Twitter feed, was simple enough: "Nobody should go broke just because they get sick." It urges people to #GetCovered under Obamacare. The photo in the tweet shows the president holding the sign with the message, but the sign contained ample space for people to create their own messages with Photoshop or other editing software. In his 1952 book The Origins of Totalitarian Democracy, Israeli historian J. L. Talmon described a political system in which lawfully elected representatives rule a nation state whose citizens, although granted the right to vote, have little or no participation in the decision-making process of government. The federal government has become such a system, an entity unto itself operating outside of Constitutional constraints and unaccountable to the American people. The United States is now controlled by a Democratic and Republican ruling class that transcends government and sees itself as distinct from the rest of society and as the only element that may

But the White House spokesman went on to jab the fact-checking organization, who in 2012 had declared the president´s statement "half true." "You

Megyn Kelly got quite a bit of attention for a segment she did Wednesday night on the unbearable whiteness of Jesus and Santa Claus. Kelly said she was just being “tongue-in-cheek” with her remarks and wasn’t at all being serious, lamenting the humorlessness of her critics in the media. Kelly played a montage of the most critical bits of her initial segment, taking particular note of her critics’ “knee-jerk instinct” to “race-bait,” making it clear she was not “motivated by any racial fear or loathing.” Kelly was roundly mocked for the segment, not only on Comedy Central, but on cable news competitors

Scientists may have figured out why Romans wore togas and the global warming theorists are not going to be pleased. A new study by Swiss scientists finds the earth was warmer during Roman and Medieval times than it is today, which indicates that greenhouse gases may not be the driving force behind the modern global warming trend. The study, by scientist Leif Kullman, analyzed 455 “radiocarbon-dated mega-fossils” in the Scandes Mountains and found that tree lines for different species of trees were higher during the Roman and Medieval times than they are today. BENGHAZI, Libya — Every week, about a dozen Syrians arrive at Benghazi’s airport for what’s described as insurgent training. When they fly out, they’re carrying fake Libyan passports, according to three officials familiar with the comings and goings of foreigners at the airport. The accounts of the officials, who asked to remain anonymous because of the sensitivity of the topic, are more evidence that this city in Libya has become a regional hub for Islamist extremists seeking to hone their combat skills. Fighters from Tunisia and Algeria also are thought to be training here, driving across Libya’s borders to reach Benghazi, the
