Republicans in Congress have a general "disrespect" for women that´s reflected in their legislative agenda, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi charged Friday, adding that she applauds the prospect of America having its first female president. [WATCH VIDEO] The California Democrat said the GOP´s policy priorities — from reproductive health to the economy to the environment — are evidence they have little concern for the issues women care the most about. "[It´s] disrespect," Pelosi said in an interview with MSNBC´s Alex Wagner that aired Friday afternoon. "Whether it´s pay equity and raising the minimum wage, whether it´s paid sick leave, or whether

Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) “just kind of got his Irish up” when he lashed out at conservative activist groups this week, Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) said. “He was frustrated that these groups came out in opposition to our budget agreement before we reached a budget agreement,” Ryan said in an interview set to air Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press.” Groups like Heritage Action, FreedomWorks and Americans for Prosperity came out against the deal Ryan brokered with Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.) before seeing the details. After months of privately seething at the organizations, Boehner vented his frustration, saying the groups

In a message sent to the Americas on Dec. 12, a day the Catholic Church celebrates in honor of the Virgin Mary, Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico, Pope Francis, who was named Person of the Year this week by Time magazine, said that America is called to be “a land prepared to accept life at every stage, from the mother’s womb to old age.” The Pope made his remarks during the course of the weekly general audience on Wednesday, and the message for the Americas was subsequently broadcast on Vatican Radio. Did Paul Ryan’s budget deal save the Republican party from itself? I think it did. Everyone acknowledges that Ryan-Murray is not a great deal. The fact is, its passage will avoid a government shutdown. That’s crucial. If the GOP wants to retake the Senate and hold the House in 2014, the key issues must be the catastrophic pitfalls of Obamacare and better economic growth. A shutdown would be a distraction. It would take the heat off President Obama, off Obamacare, and off all the Democrats who falsely promised that if you like your insurance and doctor, you can keep them.

White House move seen as sign

The decision to name a protege of Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) as head of the White House legislative affairs office is being taken as a sign that Senate Democrats will have growing power over the political agenda for 2014. The replacement of Miguel Rodriguez with Katie Beirne Fallon came as a shock to some former administration officials, who noted that Fallon was chosen over internal candidates with more experience. “So now we´re just turning the keys over the Congress,” one former senior administration official said about Beirne Fallon’s hiring. The move is all the more remarkable coming after the White House brought

‘Obamacare was sold on a trinity of lies.” That ornate phrase, more suitable for the Book of Revelations or perhaps the next installment of Game of Thrones, comes from my National Review colleague Rich Lowry. But I like it. Most people know the first deception in the triumvirate of deceit: “If you like your health insurance you can keep it, period.” The second leg in the tripod of deception was “If you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor.” But the third plank in the triad of disinformation hasn’t gotten much attention: Obamacare will save you, me, and the country

Iranian negotiators abruptly ended nuclear talks with Western powers in Vienna on Friday just a day after the Obama administration announced tighter sanctions on Tehran. Iran had threatened that new or tighter sanctions would nullify the recently reached Geneva interim deal, which is not yet in effect. The Iranians abruptly “halted” the talks and left Vienna so that they could consult with higher-level officials about how to proceed with talks following the tighter sanctions, which were announced Thursday morning by the U.S. Treasury Department. “The Iranian negotiators interrupted the talks with the [P5+1] for consultations in Tehran,” a negotiator said on Thursday, according

Mike Huckabee’s announcement that he’s considering entering the 2016 presidential fray has the potential to completely shake up the race. That’s because he would immediately leap to be among the front of the heap because of his national name ID and his deep support among Evangelical Republicans. The race is currently bereft of a clear Evangelical favorite; Huckabee would immediately fill that void. Since the rise of Evangelicals as a political force in the mid-1980s, Republican nominating races often see a “surprise” candidate bursting out from the pack with support from evangelicals. Reverend Pat Robertson broke ground in 1988 as that

A 58-year-old airport worker was charged Friday with allegedly planning a suicide bombing at a passenger terminal at the Wichita Mid-Continent Airport in Kansas. The suspect, Terry Lee Loewen, an avionics technician who lives in Wichita, was arrested earlier in the day as he attempted to use his security pass to drive a vehicle that he thought contained explosives onto the tarmac at the airport, law enforcement officials said at a news conference in Wichita. In fact, the car contained only dummy explosives. U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom said Loewen spent months developing a plan to drive a carload of explosives to

CENTENNIAL, Colo. — An armed student looking for a teacher shot and injured another student at Arapahoe High School here shortly after noon Friday before turning the gun on himself. Arapahoe County Sheriff Grayson Robinson said the shooter was found dead of what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound in the school building. The gunman’s name has not been released, but his parents have been notified, the sheriff said. “He was looking for an individual teacher that he identified by name,” Sheriff Robinson said. “The teacher began to understand that he was being looked at and exited the school.”

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said she spoke with Speaker John Boehner on Tuesday and asked when an overhaul to immigration laws could be considered in the House. “He told me, yes we have to wait until next year,” Pelosi told reporters on Wednesday morning. Democrats have been pushing House Republicans to hold a vote on a landmark immigration reform bill that was passed in June, or try to work on their own immigration legislation. But Republicans have been apprehensive, with the most conservative members opposed to anything that could provide a pathway to citizenship or legalization for undocumented immigrants.

Everywhere today you can see the elite media licking their wounds over this humiliating defeat.
