The interpreter who’s come under fire for faking sign language at Nelson Mandela’s memorial faced numerous criminal charges, including murder, rape and kidnapping. Many of the charges were dropped because he was deemed mentally unfit for trial. He’s said he’s schizophrenic, and numerous questions have arisen as to how he was able to pass security checks and stand in close proximity to world leaders. The former South African president´s funeral is slated for Saturday.

RUSH: Okay, now, mentally strong people, the 13 things they avoid. Now, here´s how Forbes gets into them. "For all the time executives spend concerned about physical strength and health, when it comes down to it, mental strength can mean even more. Particularly for entrepreneurs, numerous articles talk about critical characteristics of mental strength -- tenacity, ´grit,´ optimism, and an unfailing ability as Forbes contributor David Williams says, to ´fail up.´" Do you know people that fail up? I do. My brother knows some. It really irritates him. Do you know people that fail up? The Democrat leadership´s a classic example

An aviation technician accused of planning to detonate a car bomb at a Kansas airport has been arrested today. Terry Lee Loewen, 58, was arrested on Friday morning at Mid-Continent regional airport in Wichita, according to U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom. [Snip] Grissom said the 58-year-old spent months developing his plan of driving a car filled with explosives into the airport, triggering the bomb and killing himself in a suicide mission. He was arrested at 5.30am this morning after he tried to open a gate on to the tarmac at the airport with his security pass.

Spirit Airlines is at it again, riffing off a current event for one of its promotional ads, this time using the Obama selfie flap to good advantage. While in South Africa to pay tribute to Nelson Mandela at the official memorial service last Tuesday, President Barack Obama captured a moment with British Prime Minister David Cameron and Danish Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt, seated near him in the stands at FNB Stadium. Taking selfies is a new trend, thanks to improved cameras on smartphones these days. Oxford Dictionary even named "selfie" the international word of the year 2013.

Steve Stockman is no Ted Cruz

Texas Rep. Steve Stockman’s decision to challenge Sen. John Cornyn in the GOP primary next year stunned the political world earlier this week. Now, there’s only one question on peoples’ minds: Could Stockman actually win this thing? No, according to Evan Smith, the editor-in-chief of the Texas Tribune. In an interview for Post TV, Smith said that Stockman ceiling in the primary is “between 20 and 25 percent”, largely because even among tea partiers who helped propel Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) to an upset win in a 2012 Senate primary, the House member is too extreme in his positions. “He makes Cruz

RUSH: Ladies and gentlemen, another glittering example of one of the greatest gaps, the greatest divides that I think exists in the country. The Democrat National Committee is fundraising off of a joke that I told earlier this week. It might have been late last week. Do you remember, ladies and gentlemen, the story I told you, I´m sure many of you didn´t believe it. You thought, "Come on, Rush, this is a bunch of fringe kooks. This isn´t gonna happen." A bunch of liberals wanted to outlaw men gazing at women because the gaze was said to objectify women.

Some high-profile bipartisanship in Washington on Thursday night, as former Republican presidential candidate John McCain praised Democratic Vice President Biden for his long-time support of foreign aid. McCain, a senator from Arizona, said Biden -- a former Senate colleague from Delaware -- "deserves our gratitude and respect for his many years of effective leadership in ensuring that all the resources America has to influence the course of world events are funded adequately and used effectively." The 2008 GOP presidential nominee also said he has never "doubted for a moment that the United States of America is fortunate to be served

A man has been arrested in the US state of Kansas and accused of planning to detonate a suicide car bomb at an airport, authorities have said. Terry Lee Loewen, 58, has been charged with attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction. Mr Loewen, an aviation technician, does not appear to have been affiliated with any religious group, police said. Authorities said Mr Loewen was snared by undercover FBI investigators and the public was never in danger. "There was no breach of Mid-Continent´s Airport´s security," said Kansas US Attorney Barry Grissom in a statement. "At no time was the safety of travellers or members

New statistics indicate that the Obama administration intentionally refrained from sanctioning Iran following the June election of President Hassan Rouhani, lending credence to multiple reports that the White House began secretly courting Tehran from the first moments of Rouhani’s presidency. Prior to Rouhani’s June 14 election, the U.S. Treasury Department issued 10 sanction announcements targeting a total of 183 entities that were aiding and abetting Iran’s rogue oil trade and its nuclear weapons program, according to statistics compiled from publicly available releases on the Treasury’s website. New designations were issued each month from February to June 4, including six in the month

A Chinese naval vessel tried to force a U.S. guided missile warship to stop in international waters recently, causing a tense military standoff in the latest case of Chinese maritime harassment, according to defense officials. The guided missile cruiser USS Cowpens, which recently took part in disaster relief operations in the Philippines, was confronted by Chinese warships in the South China Sea near Beijing’s new aircraft carrier Liaoning, according to officials familiar with the incident. “On December 5th, while lawfully operating in international waters in the South China Sea, USS Cowpens and a PLA Navy vessel had an encounter that

The White House said Friday that North Korea’s reported execution of the uncle of leader Kim Jong Un is “another example of the extreme brutality of the North Korean regime.” Presidential spokesman Jay Carney said the Obama administration hasn’t been able to confirm reports of the execution but has no reason to doubt them. Mr. Carney said the execution shows “the values of the regime, their low regard for human life and what is probably the worst human-rights record in the world.” North Korea’s state-run news service said Jang Song Thaek was guilty of “attempting to overthrow the state by

Sen. Patty Murray’s political career began on a dare. Insulted when a Washington state lawmaker told her she “couldn´t make a difference” while pushing for a preschool program targeted by budget cuts, she responded by organizing a coalition of 13,000 parents who fought successfully to save the program. Now, the self-professed “mom in tennis shoes” is part of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid´s inner leadership circle, with Reid giving her increasingly more responsibility since she arrived in Congress in 1993. As chairwoman of the powerful Senate Budget Committee,

Under-strain A&E* units have missed the target to see patients within four hours for the first time this winter. In further sign of a growing crisis in emergency departments, the NHS in England failed to ensure that 95 percent cases were dealt with within the time limit. Health bosses said they had always known this winter ‘would be difficult’ but critics said that it could be a sign of worse to come. It is the first time that the four-hour waiting time target has not been met since April and comes amid warnings that expected winter pressures are only just

We´ll get to the latest on-the-fly changes in a bit, but what better way to mark Friday the 13th than to check in on the status of the website for America´s least popular law? For that, we turn the floor over to Bob Laszewski -- a health insurance expert whose predictions about, and criticisms of, Obamacare have been remarkably accurate. Might this assessment be part of the reason why anxious Democrats are experiencing a relapse of the "fix" itch (emphasis mine)? As of this week, the 834 transaction error rates (enrollments sent from the government to the health plans) are

Many in New York’s professional and cultural elite have long supported President Obama’s health care plan. But now, to their surprise, thousands of writers, opera singers, music teachers, photographers, doctors, lawyers and others are learning that their health insurance plans are being canceled and they may have to pay more to get comparable coverage, if they can find it. They are part of an unusual informal health insurance system that has developed in New York in which independent practitioners were able to get lower insurance rates through group plans, typically set up by their professional associations or chambers of commerce.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) says the Republican refusal to include unemployment benefits in the Ryan-Murray budget deal is immoral. "It´s interesting to note that they rejected unemployment insurance -- this is so unconscionable, it´s practically at the level of immoral to do. The people who work hard, play by the rules, lose their job through no fault of their own, are not able to get -- continue to get an unemployment insurance check." Again, as I say, not only is it a bad idea from a humanity standpoint, but from an economic standpoint. For every dollar spent on

The executions and blood-letting in Pyongyang are only going to get worse as a dynastic purge threatens to destabilize the entire region. The North Korean state media has reported that Jang Song Thaek, once thought to be the No. 2 leader of the country, was executed. A special military tribunal had found him guilty of treasonous activities and other crimes. Never before has Pyongyang announced the execution of a member of the ruling Kim family. Jang, 67, was married to the aunt of the country’s leader, Kim Jong Un. Why did Kim have Jang killed? It may have been personal. Jang introduced
