I claim no special insider knowledge of the Democratic Party´s inner workings, but still I am rather certain that discontent with President Obama is bubbling beneath the veneer of public unity behind the Nation´s First Black President. (snip) They´re two of the most powerful African-American politicians in the land. And by most accounts, President Obama and Rep. Charles Rangel hate each other. The most recently revealed salvo in their war of words - Obama´s assertion that Rangel is a "hack," according to the political tome "Double Down" - is just one element of a long-dysfunctional relationship.

In his disproportionate praise of the six-month agreement with Iran, Barack Obama said: “For the first time in nearly a decade, we have halted the progress of the Iranian nuclear program.” But if the program, now several decades old, had really been “halted” shortly after U.S. forces invaded neighboring Iraq, we would not be desperately pursuing agreements to stop it now, as about 10,000 centrifuges spin to enrich uranium. (snip) Iran’s nuclear program is alarming because Iran’s regime is opaque in its decision-making, frightening in its motives (measured by its rhetoric) and barbaric in its behavior.

IN 2011, the British historian Stephen Ellis published a paper concluding that Nelson Mandela had been a member of the South African Communist Party — indeed, a member of its governing Central Committee. Although Mandela’s African National Congress and the Communist Party were openly allied against apartheid, Mandela and the A.N.C. have always denied that the hero of South Africa’s liberation was himself a party member. But Ellis, drawing on testimony of former party members and newly available archives, made a convincing case that Mandela joined the party around 1960, several years before he was

Well, well, well. It´s always a glorious day in a socialist paradise when the lefties show their tyrannical hand and try to suppress speech. They want Americans to have accessibility to healthcare, but not to any information about the insurance they are forcing millions to purchase. In order to arm Californians with accurate information about the California Healthcare Exchange, the California Republican Assembly launched a website this past August called CoveringHealthcareCA.com -- clearly setting forth what you have to do, the date by which you have to do it and the consequences if you don´t.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has announced a new five-year strategic plan to improve safety for elderly drivers and passengers. Although they are statistically among the safest on the road, the number of older drivers is increasing dramatically — and with it, that group´s numbers of injuries and deaths. Since 2003, the population of older adults, defined as age 65 and older, has increased by 20% and the number of licensed older drivers increased by 21% to 35 million in 2012, according to NHTSA. Last year, NHTSA reported that 5,560 people older than 65 died and 214,000 were injured

Really Big Coloring Books, Inc. has released a comic book-style coloring book starring Texas Sen. Ted Cruz. “Ted Cruz to the Future™ — Comic Coloring Activity Book” is a “non-partisan, fact-driven view of how Texas Sen. Rafael Edward ‘Ted’ Cruz became a U.S. senator and details, through his quotes and public information his ideas for what he believes will help America grow,” according to the description. Cruz’s inspiring story as the child of immigrants, Texas solicitor general, and finally, prominent junior senator, is playfully, yet accurately portrayed in a series of outlined pictures begging to be defaced by deft crayonists.

Most days here we´re talking about relatively serious stuff -- politics, political maneuvering, political tactics, political speeches, political gaffes, political scandals. Oh, and politicians. Like the Chicagoan currently inhabiting the White House with his mother-in-law while teaching America about his adopted hometown´s chronic style of political ops. We´re all sorry about that. Anyway, today we´re doing something completely different. It's Sunday, which means the National Football League. And it's December, which means the playoffs are shaping up. We're not writing about the games though. We're writing about the show biz side

"I will be pleased to have you visit," read the email that landed in my inbox this spring. It was signed, " Bernard Madoff. "That exchange led to a two-hour meeting in May with the most notorious fraudster on Wall Street, during which Mr. Madoff pointed fingers at others and said his decadeslong Ponzi scheme wasn´t really his fault. He was dismissive of regulators and whistleblowers, calling Harry Markopolos —a fraud investigator who warned the Securities and Exchange Commission about Mr. Madoff—an "idiot." The federal prison in Butner, N.C., looks more like a small college campus than a penitentiary.

During Friday´s White House briefing, Jonathan Karl of ABC News and Peter Alexander of NBC News both pressed White House spokesman Jay Carney on a Government Accountability Institute (GAI) report that found President Obama and Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius had met only once during the three and half years after the passage of ObamaCare. Barack Obama did not tell the whole story this autumn when he tried to make the case that Bashar al-Assad was responsible for the chemical weapons attack near Damascus on 21 August. In some instances, he omitted important intelligence, and in others he presented assumptions as facts. Most significant, he failed to acknowledge something known to the US intelligence community: that the Syrian army is not the only party in the country’s civil war with access to sarin, the nerve agent that a UN study concluded – without assessing responsibility – had been used in the rocket attack. In the months before the attack,

WASHINGTON — The warning resounded through the 2012 presidential campaign. Massachusetts’ groundbreaking health reform, Republican nominee Mitt Romney said, would never work for the country as a whole. Democrats widely dismissed Romney’s comments as politically opportunistic, an effort to distance himself from the plan he backed as governor. Now, given the epic scale of problems that have bedeviled the rollout of President Obama’s plan, some state legislators, insurance and hospital executives, and others around the country are returning to Romney’s refrain. Was the Massachusetts plan, in hindsight, really the best blueprint for the nation? “They should have allowed more flexibility on a state-by-state

Fresh from shackling the traditional blocking ability of the Senate´s minority party, Democrats are ready to muscle through President Barack Obama´s nominees for pivotal judgeships and other top jobs. Despite last month´s Democratic power play, Senate Republicans retain the power to slow, though not derail, Obama´s appointments. Left unchanged were other rules that the out-of-power party could use to grind the chamber´s work to an excruciating crawl. That ranges from requiring clerks to read voluminous bills and amendments to forcing repeated procedural votes. "There are so many ways of slowing things down in the Senate," said

During his time as a priest, Father Thomas Williams officiated over countless weddings. This weekend, Williams, who left the priesthood in May after admitting he fathered a child out of wedlock, will be on the other side of the altar. The former priest will wed Elizabeth Lev Glendon in a private wedding at an undisclosed location in the United States. President Obama won re-election with the rock-solid support of what has become known as the "Obama Coalition" -- young people, minorities, women, and low-income voters. Without a firm foundation -- and high turnout -- among those groups, Obama would not be in the White House today. Now, little more than a year after the president´s re-election, his job approval rating has fallen among all segments of the American electorate. But it has fallen the most among those who did the most to elect him. For example, according to a new Gallup compilation, Obama´s job approval rating among Hispanic Americans has plunged from

Science has brought us incredible gifts: life-saving vaccines and clean water, air travel and instant communication. Modern life is built upon the knowledge that the scientific community has gathered and that society -- markets, governments, workers -- put to use. We have our ancestors to thank. But will our descendants thank us? Have we put to good use the knowledge we are gaining today to help those who will come after us? That question is now before one of the highest courts of the United States. As a scientist who has spent the past half-century documenting how mankind is fundamentally altering our climate,

President Obama said Saturday that he believed that the chances of a final, comprehensive nuclear agreement being struck with Iran are less than 50-50. However, Obama defended the interim deal struck between the U.S., Iran, and five other world powers last month in Geneva, saying that diplomacy had to be tested as a solution to the crisis and was the best way to prevent Tehran from acquiring automatic weapons. "If you ask me what is the likelihood that we´re able to arrive at the end state ... I wouldn´t say that it´s more than 50-50," Obama said. "But we have to try."

Under most circumstances, a falling unemployment rate would be cause for great cheer. These are not most circumstances. America is now a country where the official count of joblessness is dropping largely because so many people have stopped looking for work. Under the government’s statistical rules, those who have thrown in the towel are no longer counted as unemployed. Perversely, this drives the rate down. Combined with weak job growth, the trend produced happy-sounding 7% unemployment, the lowest rate in five years. In fact, though, the labor force participation rate, a solid measure of the country’s connection to paychecks,

Obviously, if it’s a president who once went by an alias, Barry Soetoro, you go with Uncle Omar, 100 percent, no questions asked. And so it was that the White House finally admitted to another, uh, misstatement — despite previous denials, Barack/Barry did sleep on his beloved Uncle Omar’s couch in Cambridge when he first moved here to attend Harvard Law School (speaking of which, we’re still waiting to see the president’s grades and his LSAT scores). Given all the musicians, singers, and bands that have existed since, say, 1960, some of them were inevitably destined to write, compose,

President Obama acknowledged Saturday that he’d prefer to see a much harsher agreement with Iran, one that not only shuts down the Middle Eastern nation’s nuclear program entirely but also eliminates all of its “military capabilities.” Such an option, however, isn’t on the table and is simply unrealistic, the president said, which is why critics of the recent deal with Iran — both domestically and across the globe, particularly in Israel — should be content with what has been achieved thus far. “If we could create an option in which Iran eliminated every single nut and bolt of their nuclear program
