RUSH: Here is Wolf Blitzer. Last night on The Situation Room, Wolf Blitzer had in Fareed Zakaria GPS. I guess Fareed had his location device with him. He calls himself "Fareed Zakaria GPS." When you´re with him, I guess, you always know where you are. And they´re talking about the impact of the passing of Nelson Mandela, and this is classic. Listen to Wolf here... BLITZER: Is it overly naive to hope and pray that maybe the death of Nelson Mandela will inspire some of those world leaders out there right now to do the right thing, to recognize that bloodshed and

WASHINGTON — Without Nelson Mandela, there might never have been a President Obama. That is the strong impression conveyed from Mr. Obama, whose political and personal bonds to Mr. Mandela, the former South African president, transcended their single face-to-face meeting, which took place at a hotel here in 2005. It was the fight for racial justice in South Africa by Mr. Mandela that first inspired a young Barack Obama to public service, the American president recalled on Thursday evening after hearing that Mr. Mandela, the 95-year-old world icon, had died. Mr. Obama delivered his first public speech, in 1979, at

RUSH: We mentioned earlier that Obama didn´t know that Obama was living with his uncle, who happened to be an illegal alien at the time. Here´s Jay Carney. This is yesterday afternoon in Washington the White House at the daily briefing. Ed Henry, the Fox News White House correspondent, said, "The White House said that in 2011, that there was no record of Obama and his uncle, Omar Obama, ever meeting. Now the Boston Globe is being told by the White House -- and I assume you can elaborate here, Jay -- that, in fact, they not only met, but

One consequence of the botched launch of Obamacare is that it has, judging from his plummeting numbers with “millennials,” diminished Barack Obama’s cool. It’s not merely that the website isn’t state-of-the-art, but that the art it’s flailing to be state of is that of the mid-20th century social program. The emperor has hipster garb, but underneath he’s just another Commissar Squaresville. So, health care being an irredeemable downer for the foreseeable future, this week the president pivoted (as they say) to “economic inequality,” which will be, he assures us, his principal focus for the rest of his term. And what’s

This column has made the point before that there are three phases of the ObamaCare catastrophe. Phase 1, the technical failure, might have been avoided had the administration had some basic standards of competence. But Phases 2 and 3 are inherent in the law. Phase 2 was the revelation that the ObamaCare enterprise is the most massive consumer fraud in American history--that the "if you like your plan, you can keep it" sales pitch was not only false but deliberately deceptive, and also that ObamaCare forces insurance companies to engage in dishonest practices such as selling maternity coverage to men and

"You know nothing about Nelson Mandela," spat Julius Malema. It was May 2010, and a foreign correspondent had just asked the African National Congress’s fire-breathing youth leader how he dared compare himself to the secular saint the world is mourning today. In the Western imagination, Mandela stood for racial reconciliation, whereas Malema was given to referring to whites as "criminals" and "the enemy". Mandela also stood for justice, whereas Malema was an open admirer of the murderous Robert Mugabe. At first glance, Malema’s presumption seemed obscene, but he was right on at least one score--the truth about Mandela

Congress must take back

President Obama´s abuse of executive power has grown to the point that "he´s becoming the very danger the Constitution was designed to avoid," Jonathan Turley, a liberal law professor at George Washington University, told the House Judiciary Committee at a Dec. 3 hearing on the issue. Turley also pointed to what he described as "increasing autonomy and decreasing transparency" of the rapidly growing federal bureaucracy. Both of these developments have accelerated the decline of congressional power that Congress, by its actions, has allowed to happen. Lawmakers have stood idly by, for example, as courts redefined the handling of

During a segment of The View Thursday morning, host Barbara Walters expressed her concerns over politicians swearing on a Bible upon taking office, noting the importance of “the separation of church and state” as an American value. The comments came up as the View crew discussed Sen. Mark Pryor‘s (D-AR) new political ad apologizing for his Obamacare support as well as insisting that the Bible should be a guiding presence in politics. After playing the ad, actress Jane Seymour told her hosts that “I think it’s really unfortunate when you have to bring religion into politics. I think religion is

A Florida teen has had a lucky escape after accidentally swallowing two buckminsterfullerenes or ´Buckyballs´ - rare-earth magnets that are incredibly strong and can perforate the stomach and even kill if swallowed. Christin Rivas, 14, was given six of the magnets by a church friend just before Thanksgiving, and took them to her school in Melbourne to ´freak out´ her friends with tricks such as pulling a pen up a wall from a neighboring classroom. But the fun ended when Christin Rivas accidentally swallowed the magnets and had to have them surgically removed along with a portion of her colon

Democrats have justifiably rejoiced in the divisions within the Republican Party which hamper its ability to speak with one voice and act with unity of purpose. The tea party faction within the GOP, once an unalloyed good that propelled the party to electoral victory in 2010, has been more of a headache than a boon ever since. The conservative faction of the Grand Old Party is often credited with robbing the party of electoral victories, torpedoing bipartisan legislative deals, and elevating gaffe-prone voices that force the GOP’s moderates to adopt a perpetual defensive crouch. NEW YORK- The Fender Stratocaster that Bob Dylan plugged in when he famously went electric at the 1965 Newport Folk Festival sold Friday for nearly $1 million - the highest price ever paid for a guitar at auction. A buyer identified only as a private individual agreed to pay $965,000, including the auction house´s fees, for the sunburst-finish guitar, Christie´s said. Dylan´s legendary performance at the festival in Rhode Island 48 years ago marked his rupture with the folk movement´s old guard and solidified his shift away from acoustic music, like "Blowin´ in the Wind," toward amplified rock, such as "Like a Rolling Stone."

Adam Shaw, an editor for the Fox News website, has been taking a lot of heat, even from some conservatives, for a rip-roaring assessment of the pope’s recent apostolic exhortation. His column is titled: “Pope Francis is the Catholic Church’s Obama – God help us,” which gives you a sense of where Shaw was coming from. But if Shaw’s Fox job is safe — hey, when Rush Limbaugh is blasting the pontiff anyone else looks tame — his other gig, as a film and video game reviewer for Catholic News Service, is over as of yesterday.

The U.S. federal health insurance website HealthCare.gov, which has had technology problems since its October 1 launch, is now experiencing errors in transmitting applications about 10 percent of the time, a government spokeswoman said on Friday. The online insurance marketplace relays information about new customers in ´834´ transaction forms to the private insurance companies that provide the health plans. HealthCare.gov serves people in 36 states, while 14 states are running their own websites. "We believe nine of 10 transactions are being successfully transmitted," the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, or CMS, spokeswoman Julie Bataille said at a news briefing.

Barack Obama delivered a statement on the passing of Nelson Mandela yesterday. During his speech he told about his first public speech on apartheid at Occidental College. “I am one of the countless millions who drew inspiration from Nelson Mandela’s life. My very first political action, the first thing I ever did that involved an issue or a policy or politics, was a protest against apartheid. I studied his words and his writings.” But, Barack Obama forgot to mention that his speech at Occidental was sponsored by Marxists and Weatherman terrorists. The White House on Friday criticized as inaccurate a report in POLITICO Magazine claiming that President Barack Obama and Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius met just once since the signing of the Affordable Care Act more than three years ago. “The published report that was written by an advocate is based on a ridiculously false premise,” White House press secretary Jay Carney said during a press briefing. “Cabinet secretaries don’t regularly get entered into the White House visitors logs, [though] they come frequently. Kathleen Sebelius comes frequently, and she meets frequently with the president.”

Whether people say "Merry Christmas" or "Happy Holidays," one thing they shouldn´t have to say about the favorite season of kids everywhere is "Christmas tree tax." But this perennial stinker of an idea from special-interest grinches with connections in the Obama White House is back, this time in the farm bill now before Congress. The proposal is a 15-cent tax to be paid on every freshly-cut Christmas tree sold in America. President Obama, at the urging of the National Christmas Tree Association, first proposed it in 2011.

It was back in August 2011, just before the young Republican lawmaker formally announced his first campaign for the House, and Cotton and his dad came to a party meeting to get to know the faithful. Cotton was a 34-year-old political unknown who had recently lived in Washington. "When he just parachuted down into this district, nobody ever heard of him," she recalls. "I said, ´Who are you? WASHINGTON — Taxpayers can expect to get stuck with a more than $1 billion bill for the creation and repair of the federal ObamaCare Web site, a top House Republican warned. “The fact is, eventually they’ll get this Web site working at the cost of probably over a billion dollars,” House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa (Calif.) said on Fox News Channel. On the list of scandals that plagued the Obama administration this past year, Benghazi has been the one the White House, Democrats, and their cheerleaders in the mainstream media dismissed with the greatest of ease. Unlike the IRS scandal, which though it has faded from the news had obvious constitutional and political implications, or the various spying scandals involving news organizations and the National Security Agency, which outraged large numbers of ordinary Americans, Benghazi was put down as a manufactured story that had little traction. Part of it was due to the obsessive, though understandable, focus of Republicans on the

In late October, Texas Gov. Rick Perry went to Israel, not a surprising trip for a potential presidential candidate whose pro-Zionist views are well known. However, less widely known is his role in a breakthrough of sorts in academia and U.S.-Israeli relations. The Jerusalem Post reported: Texas A&M University will open a branch in Nazareth by October 2015 . . . The new institution, to be called the Peace Campus, will promote coexistence for the sake of education with a student population combining Arab, Jewish and foreign students. PACHUCA, Mexico — Federal police blocked access Friday to a central Mexico hospital where six people were reported to have been admitted with radiation exposure. An official familiar with the case confirmed Mexican media reports that the six have been admitted to the general hospital in the city of Pachuca and may have been exposed to a stolen source of cobalt-60. The official, who spoke Friday on condition of anonymity because she was not authorized to speak to the media, said only one person was dizzy and vomiting, which are symptoms of radiation poisoning.
